Dear BUNKER HILL Families and Friends, Wow! I cannot believe how quickly the time has passed since May. With POM and leave time, I hope you all had time together with your sailors. Our family has taken advantage of many programs offered to our military families like the National Parks Pass (http://1.usa.gov/kYTchH) , the Blue Star Museum Initiative (http://bit.ly/JOXt6H), and Disneys Armed Forces Salute discounts (http://bit.ly/92AzlT). I hope this newsletter will provide you with some valuable information and activities whether you are in the San Diego area or around the country and world. Sincerely, Danice Toyias, Command Ombudsman

INTRODUCTION TO YOUR OMBUDSMAN

My name is Danice Toyias and I am happy to be of service as your Command Ombudsman. What is an Ombudsman? Ombudsmen are trained volunteers, and military spouses within the command. I am appointed by the Commanding Officer and serve as a resource for all family members. The Ombudsman Code of Ethics guarantees support of the commands mission, professionalism, and confidentiality, within program guidelines. How can my Ombudsman help me? Your Ombudsman can help you find the resources you need to solve almost any problem, from critical emergencies to routine requests. Your Ombudsman will also keep you informed regarding current events and programs. The Ombudsman passes information from families to the command, as well as sharing information from the command leadership as appropriate. Ombudsmen are the source of official and accurate command information, especially during emergencies. Feel free to contact me by phone, email, text, or message if you have questions or need assistance. However, I do not have command-specific information to provide to you, such as dates, places, and times regarding ships movement.

FEDS FEED FAMILIES

Your sailor may have asked you to pick up some extra food on your next trip to the commissary or store. The Bunker Hill is participating in the Feds Feed Families program. The Commander Naval Region Southwest has set a goal of 50,000 pounds of food from now until the end of August. The food that the Bunker Hill collects will be donated to the Surface Force Ombudsmans Food Locker, which helps fellow surface sailors and their families in times of dire need. Please help us collect items for this cause. The collection boxes are located on the mess decks, in the Chiefs mess, and Wardroom. If you would like to donate food, but do not want to take it to the ship, call, text, or email me and I can arrange a pick up. (619-405-7389 or cg52ombudsman@yahoo.com)
