Operating Instructions for Thermic Fluid Heaters 1. Starting 1.1a.

Check that the fuel oil service tank is full of fuel oil. For gas fired units open shut off cock for the gas pressure manostate to sense the same. 1.2 Ensure that oil/gas filters and strainers and burner nozzle are clean. (Follow instructions given in the daily maintenance chart) 1.3 1.4 Open oil/gas inlet valve. In case of furnace oil put setting of oil temperature controller on 90 C and start main switch. 1.5 Start the water supply to the jacket provided for gland cooling of thermic fluid circulating pump. In the case of pumps fitted with mechanical seals, open the valves for the heat exchanger also. 1.6 Open vent valves provided in the thermic fluid line to remove any air entrapped. Close them after all the air has been removed. 1.7 Check level of oil in the expansion tank. Never start the unit if sufficient quantity of thermic fluid is not there in the expansion tank. 1.8 Put the rotary switch in No.1 position after the fuel oil temperature reaches 90 C (in case of Furnace oil). Check the circuit pressure and the pump pressure. The pressure gauge pointers should be steady. If the pointers are flickering too much, run only the circulating pump till all the air gets trapped in the column of thermic fluid is driven out and the pointers are steady.

1.9

Check that the settings of all the controls are not altered and then put the rotary switch in No.2 position. Check position of photo resistor and burner. Put the programmer switch in No.3, position. Circulating pump, blower with oil pump gets ON. Ignition ON. Burner gets energized and fire will take place. Gas fired units see bentone manual.

1.10

For oil-fired units - check the oil pressure as gauge. Check that its setting is not altered.

indicated on the oil pressure

1.11

The circulating pump will keep on working all the time, even when the burner is off by the action of any of the temperature indicator controllers.

2. Running Attention It is advisable on the part of the operator to make it a practice to go round the unit and the plant and make sure that: 2.1 2.2 2.3 2.4 2.5 2.6 No excessive sound is coming from the motor or any moving parts. All valves and joints are leak-tight. No part of the unit is getting overheated. Proper cooling water flow and thermic fluid flow are maintained. No undue vibrations are observed from any part of the unit. The flame in the combustion chamber is steady and non-flickering. GAS fired units should have a blue flame.

2.7

The exhaust from the chimney is normal and almost colo urless. (Gas) & light gray (oil).

2.8 2.9

There is no sparking due to loose contact in the electric circuit. In "ON-OFF" operation, the units start and stop smoothly without excessive vibrations or smoke.

2.10 2.11

Rise in temperature of gland cooling water is not more than 35 C. Pump and system pressure needles are steady and not flickering. Flickering of pointers indicates traces of entrapped gases and air in the column of thermic fluid.

2.12

Delta T i.e., difference between outlet and return temperature is almost constant throughout the working of the equipments.

2.13

There is, always, a level of about 10" of thermic fluid in the gauge of the expansion tank.

2.14

Required temperature is being maintained in the user equipments and the working of temperature control valves in the thermic fluid circuit is satisfactorily.

3. Stopping 3.1 Put the rotary switch in No.1 position. Let the thermic fluid circulating pump keep on working till the outlet temperature drops down to 80C. 3.2 In case of Furnace oil as fuel, set the temperature controller back to O.

3.3 3.4 3.5

Close the oil/gas inlet valve. Fill the fuel oil service tank for next days operation. Let the water be circulated through the jacket of circulating pump for about 15 minutes.

3.6

Put off the electric main switch.
