From green and gold wool, cut a

Size: 46" x 52" Blocks: 9 (10" x 12") Dog or Cat blocks 4 (8") Star or Mouse blocks
NOTE: Materials listed are for 1

quilt (you can make a combination of 9 dog or cat blocks and 4 star or mouse blocks). 1 yards navy print for border and star or mouse block yard brown stripe for binding 1 fat quarter* black print flannel for dog ears 9 fat quarters* assorted stripes, dots, or checks for dog or cat blocks 9 fat quarters* assorted gray and tan prints for dog or cat blocks

1 fat quarter* turquoise print for star or mouse blocks 1 fat quarter* gray wool or felt for dog eyes, mice ears and tails 1 fat eighth** each green and gold wool or felt for cat eyes 1 fat eighth** white wool or felt for dog eyes 1 fat eighth** black wool or felt for dog noses and eyes, cat and mouse eyes 1 fat eighth** pink wool or felt for mice ears and noses and cat noses Black and pink embroidery thread Paper for foundation piecing Template material 3 yards backing fabric Twin-size quilt batting *fat quarter = 18" x 20" **fat eighth = 9" x 20"

From gray and tan prints, cut a total of:

9 matching pairs of Dog Ears.


Remaining fabrics will be used for foundation piecing and:

7 B and 2 B reversed (for Dog Blocks).

Dog Block assembly


1. Trace or photocopy 1 set of dog

block foundations from the patterns on pages 68. 2. Foundation piece block sections in numerical order, using 1 stripe fabric for background pieces and gray print for dog pieces. NOTE: Kimberly carefully matched
the stripes in each block, but we think it would be charming to let the stripes go every which way.

Cutting
Measurements include " seam allowances. Border strips are exact length needed.You may want to make them longer to allow for piecing variations. Patterns for A, B, Ear, foundations, and animal features are on pages 4-18.

From brown stripe, cut:

From black print flannel, cut:

From gray wool, cut:

and 1 black flannel Dog Ear, right sides facing. Stitch on curved line; clip and trim seam. Turn right side out; press. Make 2 dog ears. 3. Join foundation sections to make Dog Unit as shown in Dog Block Assembly Diagrams. Baste ears to dog unit as shown.

shown in Quilt Top Assembly Diagram. Join into rows; join rows to complete quilt center. 2. Add navy print side borders to quilt center. 3. Join 1 star or mouse block to each end of top and bottom borders. Add borders to quilt.

Finishing
1. Divide backing into 2 (1-yard)

lengths. Join panels lengthwise. Seam will run horizontally. 2. Layer backing, batting, and quilt top; baste. Quilt as desired. Dog Daze quilt shown was quilted with meandering in blocks and freehand words Bow Wow, Good Dog, and Woof in border (Quilting Diagrams). Feline Frenzy quilt shown was quilted with meandering in blocks and freehand words Meow and Purr in border. 3. Join 2"-wide brown stripe strips into 1 continuous piece for straightgrain French-fold binding. Add binding to quilt.
