bit of adventure of courtship back into the relationship. A daily walk in the park holding hands, talking and laughing at the things you did when you first met, the team work, what you went through together, the We-Ness is very important. Always let your spouse know that you are glad s(he) is home, doing this every day will bring great results. Make your spouse your number one priority and showing that him/her comes first in your heart. All my children and grandchildren take note of my old fashion ways which is full of wisdom: 1. When your spouse enters the room, (stand), this make him/ her feel very special. 2. When your partner is busy doing something, instead of interrupting give him/her a kiss on the cheek, tell him/her something sexy in the ear. 3. Always spend some date night out with each other ALONE. 4. Concentrate on making pleasure not causing pain. 5. Compliment each other everyday either by texting, emailing or even telling it face to face.

RELATIONSHIP ADVICE with Father Linkage

For centuries the focus of marriage was to raise children. Personal happiness was not in the scenario. In todays world romantic love and intimacy are now the pillars of marriage. My husband and I couldnt wait for our permanent retirement and the children to grow up. We longed for reliving our youthfulness and companionship again. But little did we know that a partners constant presence can be irritating at times. We have found that our lives was all a to-do list, we realized that we interact very little with each other. Getting older is challenging but setting your goals on how to reconnect that spark is very important. Its about playfulness, humor, and a little

Words Of Wisdom From My Eighty Five Year Old Grandparents

6. Do your anniversary planning together, make each other input important. 7. Do not listen to people when they say they have the perfect spouse in the world, there is only one Jesus.

Is it the way you are hung; the way you gallop like a stud? If you were missing a few inches from your ruler, would you still be a baller? And if your balls were smaller in your pants, would that make you less than a man? What makes you a man? Is it the power you feel behind the gun? Do you really feel like a man when you insult and beat on your woman? Do you grow taller when you call her names of animals? What makes you a man? Is it how many women you have bedded? And how many children you have created? Is it your fancy car or your phat crib, Or how well you can handle your drink? Is it how much you earn or how dapper you look? Does it make a difference if you wear tattered jeans and mudded boots? If your hair is matted or slickly smooth; If your arms are green and your teeth are crooked and not the color they should? What if you are the king of the streets or lover of books?

What Makes You a Man?

Michelle MichyB Bailey - Funny but Conscious Poet (mlbcmj@aol.com) If you are a white collar, blue collar, rainbow color Does that add or take- away from your manhood? What is your greatest fear if you shed a tear? Does it make you a wuss if you mewl like a puss? What makes you a man? Are you like the Josephs? The one who did not succumb to Potiphars wife When she tempted him with her beguiles. The Joseph who married Mary, Even though he knew Christ wasnt his baby. Are you the man who provides for mother and child? That man who makes the ultimate sacrifice to see that smile. Are you that man with romance and knows how to dance Knows how to kiss your lady and makes her weak in the knees Sings songs like Solomon and make her feel like a queen Do you know how to parley prose like this? Like a lily among thorns is my darling Among the young women. You are altogether beautiful, my darling; There is no flaw in you.

Most couples who withstand a long and lasting relationship have been able to withstand conflict. Discussing problems without a win-win and developing the speaker-listener technique is very important, this makes you feel youve been fully heard without any interruption, rebuttals or criticism. Maintaining a healthy sex life is not only fulfilling but its also good for other aspect of your life, including your physical health and self esteem. When you get older your libido decreases, but that doesnt say you must stop fore-playing, kissing and hugging each other. Just by even sitting down watching a romantic movie can stimulate you and your partner, just look at what love songs does, it sends you back in time, when you had all that stamina to face up to any challenges. Even though we are in great shape our bodies are now different and our orgasms are shorter. Younger

men may have stronger erections but, older men tend to have a better control with their knowledge, wisdom and understanding in getting the job done. Being your elder does not say our days of love making are over, you must realize we can become very cuddling and emotional. Spooning is a game we play very often, because it doesnt place any great stress on either party, you use all four hands to stimulate the body while hitting the G-Spot. Others we found to be enjoyable is the missionary, forking and back way merger. You can try different position because of health reasons but all is good once there is pleasure in it.

As Father Linkage sey: Its an essential component to keep the connections alive and strong after retirement, the happiest couples are those who have found a way to combat the physical and emotional obstacles and maintain a physically satisfying and sensual relationship.

Can Vybz Kartel change Jamaica for the better from behind bars? He has vowed to and based on Kartels ability to use his lyrics to gather a following, it will be interesting how this initiative by Kartel will affect Jamaica. The Secretary General stated Im leaving here very, very satisfied that the various leaders of this country, in different walks of life, continue to be committed to the integration enterprise. I leave here in a very positive mood, but a sober one; in the sense that the issues that have been raised are very real and dear to the hearts of every Jamaican, but not only every Jamaican but the people of the Community as well, he added. Proponents of a departure from Caricom say the group has failed to meet its targets of economic growth in the region and reference the trade imbalance between Jamaica and Trinidad & Tobago as an example. They also question its relevance at a time when its members are more focused on nationalist gains. Among the detractors is Opposition spokesman on in-

While acknowledging its shortcomings, however, LaRocque maintained that Caricom was not a failure, but only needs tweaking. Referencing the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), the secretary general said he saw potential for leadership in the integration movement from Jamaica and Trinidad. One of the successes of the OECS was commonality of view and camaraderie among some of the heads of the OECS that helped to propel things. Police discovered meth in Flushing High School educators car. Hudson has been assigned to an administrative post away from the school A Queens high school principal was nabbed just a block away from his school when cops found a baggie of methamphetamine in his car during a traffic stop, police said. Im doing this so that something is going to be done, so that it will never happen again to another parent, said Diane John, who learned of her son Kristoffs March 6 beatdown at George Westinghouse Career and Technical Education High School when she was shown a video of the incident. You send your kids to school to learn, she said. Its supposed to be a safe place and for this to happen is shameful and disgusting. Prominent attorney Sanford Rubenstein filed a blistering claim against the city Thursday naming the Education Department and Hudson as defendants. Stephan Hudson negligently, violently and viciously grabbed (Kristoff) by his arm, hand and neck, and dragged him across the floor and pushed him numerous times into a table, the claim reads. The claim also contends that school officials including principal Janine Kieran attempted to conceal and cover up the truth by lying to John about the incident and preventing her from seeing video of the beating. Rubenstein is also seeking criminal charges against Hudson on behalf of Kristoff and his mother. Kristoffs anguished mother said she hasnt slept through the night since she viewed the shock-

ing video and she wishes none of this ever happened. I have so much pain in my heart for my son. No parent should go through this, said John, a childcare worker who brought Kristoff from her native Grenada in 2011 so the boy could go to high school in the city. The thumping her son received during his freshman year at Westinghouse drove him back to his familys home country in April, and turned him against school, she said. The claim alleges that 15-year-old Kristoff, who, at just 116 pounds, weighs less than half as much as Hudson, suffered serious and permanent injuries to his back and neck as a result of the beating. At the time, Hudson told John that is was the boy who attacked him not the other way around. When John asked for a look at the school surveillance video her son told her must exist, school officials blew her off, she said. They covered it up and blamed my son and I believed them, said John. They should be ashamed of themselves. Schools Chancellor Dennis Walcott was disturbed by the video, which shows Hudson thumping Kristoff, and will seek the teachers firing, a department spokeswoman said. Rubenstein, who is also representing a Brooklyn student who was blinded in a June cafeteria beatdown in a separate, $16 million suit against the city, said that safety in the public schools is a problem.

Four People Shot--One Fatally-- In The 43rd Precinct In A Six-Hour Period Last Weekend
Residents say area west of Parkchester is war zone. Three shootings within six hours last weekend in the 43rd Precinct has residents and community leaders struggling to find a response to the violence. One man was killed and three people were wounded between 11:40 p.m. Saturday and 5 a.m. Sunday. The murder of a 21-year-old man who was shot several times at Academy Gardens on Rosedale Ave. led Tangee Lingard, an Academy Gardens resident and 43rd Precinct Community Council president, to suggest an 11 p.m. curfew for the complex. Something needs to be done until we can get everything under control again, Lingard said. It would make it easier for the police department. If somebody was just sitting on a bench at a certain time of night, it would give (police) a reason to question them. Lingard said the city should also provide more activities to keep youth off the streets. It seems like theyre getting younger and younger pulling the trigger, Lingard said. The incidents that took place over the weekend are both tragic and unacceptable and highlight the need for a significant increase in public safety resources in New York City, said City Councilwoman Annabel Palma. Busy Signal Pleads Guilty to Absconding Bail

Entertainment
Fast-rising Dancehall star, Potential Kidd could soon be facing his own share of legal woes as the deejay stand accused by promoters of stealing money. Dwayne Garry Dreamaz Grant, a New Jersey based promoter insists that Potential Kidd, his booking agent and manager scammed multiple event planners in the United States for large sums of money. Reportedly, promoters have substantial evidence of these alleged scams; showing signed contracts and receipts that were sent to members of Potential Kidds team despite the fact that the A Yah So Nice deejay could not travel to the United States, while also revealing that the artiste never informed them of his inability to fly to the North American country. Grant intimated that he had dialogue with Potential Kidd and his team since April when he secured the deejays services for shows on July 13 and 14 in New York and New Jersey respectively where they agreed on a sum of US$6,300 for both shows. In a press release, Grant stated that Back in April, I was introduced to Theresa Small of Terri Booking Agency by a friend. As to what I was told, she is the booking agency for Dwayne Taylor aka Potential Kid. I spoke to Theresa back in April and she told me nothing is guarantee until a deposit was made. After I sent the money, Theresa introduced me to Angeletta who is Dwayne

Dancehall Superstar Mavado Wants Gullyside Feuding To Stop

Internationally acclaimed Dancehall/Reggae superstar, Busy Signal will soon say goodbye to his freedom, at least temporarily after pleading guilty to a charge of absconding bail in a Minnesota courtroom on Thursday July 19th. The prominent singjay, whose real name is Glendale Goshia Gordon, plead guilty to one count of absconding bail; thus admitting that he fled the United States before a scheduled trial on drugrelated charges in 2002. As a result, Busy Signal, who had been extradited to the United States from Jamaica in June, now faces a prison term of between 12-18 months as well as a fine ranging from US$3,000 to US$30,000, under sentencing guideline recommendations. Busy Signals lawyer, Bill Mauzy indicated that he would ask for a sentence of time served while assistant U.S. Attorney refused to elaborate on how much time prosecutors in the artistes case would seek. No sentencing date has been set in Busy Signals case. U.S. District judge,

Donovan Frank outlined that Busy Signal will be given 45 days to leave the United States once he completes his prison term or else he could be nabbed on drug charges stemming from his aforementioned 2002 case. Though the drug charges still exist, the United States government does not have the authority to prosecute Busy Signal on those counts at present given that the extradition request for the entertainer pertained to absconding bail only. This news comes two months after Busy Signal was taken into custody on an extradition warrant at the Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston this past May after being deported from the United Kingdom, where law enforcement officials arrested him on the suspicion of using false documentation while traveling. Busy Signal waived his rights to fight his extradition hearing three days following his arrests and was transported to the United States in June, accompanied by U.S. Marshals.

During a recent interview, Mavado revealed his disdain for the recent issues amongst his current and former friends; insisting that all the bickering needs to stop. out the journey its not every man going to stay. Because even the little thing that went down with Chase and Flexx, it need to just done no matter where it start, Mavado stated. My date for the show was July 14, 2012 but five days before I was told he did not have a visa for the USA, I was told he will be going to immigration but to my understanding, he did not go. Even up to the day before the events on Friday and Saturday, Potential Kid had not yet made an appearance at immigration to obtain a visa and work permit. According to reports, two other promoters fell victim to this alleged scam; one of them being Ageable Jason of Boomerang Promotions, who intimated that he went through a similar process with Potential Kidd. Basically, we send the money for Potential Kid for a date on July 13 to perform at a venue in the Bronx named Best Party Place aka Social Gathering Palace. After we sent all the money I was supposed to then wait for a while for a commercial when the artist supposed to be in New York July 6, because he supposed to perform on the 7th in Mount Vernon. So after I found out he wasnt coming for the 6th, I was informed that he didnt get his work permit as yet but I was guaranteed by his manager that he will get it for the show on the 13th in New York and the 14th in New Jersey. So as days go by, we keep getting

So finally Wednesday into Thursday, after we spend up all our money to go on the road, to promote on radio stations, paying people to promote, rent club, etc. we found out that he wasnt coming because he dont have a visa and etc. he said. As a result, Grant insists that he intends to sue Potential Kidd and his team for their alleged actions. Furthermore, he revealed that Potential Kidds manager, Angeletta called him on July 17, claiming that she will refund the money but that it will take some time due to the fact that the deejay is broke. Grant later spoke to Potential Kidd, who vehemently denied the allegations, insisting that his manager lied and that she stole the promoters money. Nevertheless, Grant insists that hes pursuing legal action against Potential Kidd and his team not just because of money, but due to principle as he feels that its unfair for this happen to so many promoters. Georgetown, Guyana The atmosphere remains tense in the Guyana mining town of Linden following a violent clash between police and protesters on July 18th that left three dead and many injured. The carnage came amidst protests stemming from the governments introduction of higher electricity rates in the town of about 30,000 people. Residents are contending they cannot afford the hike at this time, and some businesses temporarily shut down in sympathy. Protesters used old vehicles and other debris to block the Wismar-Mackenzie Bridge, a major artery to the mining interior, from mid-morning on until they clashed with police around 6:00pm. Police resorted to firing rubber pellets at the demonstrators after tear gas failed to disperse a group that had occupied the bridge all day. Eyewitnesses said the tear gas volleys fell short of the crowd, since they were fired from the vicinity of the Linden Hospital Complex, and protesters retaliated by pelting the police with

bottles. At least six persons were said to have been seriously injured in the melee, while several more escaped with minor injuries. Regional Administrative Chairman Sharma Solomon said that three males were killed including a handicapped child. Sharma accused the police of using both live rounds and rubber pellets on the protesters and described the situation in Linden Wednesday evening as pandemonium. Dozens of persons have been injured, he declared. There were also reports of several buildings on fire including the General Office which houses the offices of Linden Electricity Company CEO Horace James and the finance area where Lindeners usually pay their electricity bills. Mackenzie, on the eastern bank of the Demerara River, was reportedly plunged into a blackout, but the cause is not clear. The Linden Utility Cooperatives Society Limited (LUSCL) turned off its supply to residents of Wismar on the western side of the river for most of the day.

Greetings Friends, Voice in the Wind is aired on Wednesday mornings 8am-9am on Linkage Radio. I look forward to sharing the Word of God with our audience. Friends in Radioland, keep listening, viewing live on Ustream and calling in with those prayer request and testimonies. Growing up, many of us heard the saying, Word is wind and blow (hit) is unkind another familiar one, Sticks and stones may break your bones but words will never harm you. We were taught these things religiously even by our God fearing parents and grand parents. However these so called wise sayings have no Biblical roots in fact they oppose the Word of God! Even as Christians we can be Biblically illiterate on certain subjects until we study, read and meditate or we are taught the truth! The Bible has much to say about our words and our power in speaking! Let us therefore examine some of these teachings that we might interrupt what we have been taught by culture and well meaning erroneous adults so the Word of God can become effective in our lives! We can have our eyes opened and be careful in our speech because we hold the keys to our longevity and conditions in our lives! Yes God has not just given us just freewill but also authority in speaking as he did in creating! James 3:6 And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity. The tongue is so set among our members that it defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire by hell.

Luke 6:45 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks

Therefore renew your mind constantly by the Word of God so that whatever things are pure, lovely, and of good report will come from your lips. Proverbs 4:23 Keep your heart with all diligence, For out of it spring the issues of life. Your speech is so powerful it could bring life or death! We should measure the weight of our words are they fruitful to produce life or death? Proverbs 18:21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit. We find after all that words are not wind, they have productive power! We will even be judged by our words! Gary Foster toiled away as a midlevel accountant in Citigroups Long Island City back office, collecting around a $100,000 paycheck last year. But federal prosecutors claim Mr. Foster gave himself a bonus fit for a star investment banker by embezzling 22 million from Citigroup before its auditors picked up on the scheme. Mr. Foster, a 35-year-old former assistant vice president in Citis internal treasury finance department, was arrested by Federal Bureau of Investigation agents at Kennedy Airport , after returning from a trip to Europe and Asia. He pleaded not guilty to charges of bank fraud at a hearing in Federal District Court in Brooklyn and was expected to be set free on $800,000 bond. Mr. Foster, who is divorced and has two children, had been enjoying the high life. He owned six properties, including an apartment in Midtown Manhattan; two luxury apartments in Jersey City; a $1.35 million house in Tenafly, N.J.; and a $3 million home in Englewood Cliffs, N.J., that had a $500,000 entertainment system and bathroom mirrors that turned to video screens when touched, according to a law enforcement official. He also owned a Maserati GranTurismo and BMW 550xi. A Ferrari was on order. The fraud charges are the latest effort by the Justice Department to crack down on white-collar crime at a time when the agency is under increasing pressure to hold Wall Street bankers accountable. This case is against a relatively junior Citigroup executive, and appears to have little to do with the financial crisis. Still, it is yet another embarrassment for a bank that once made its entire work force take an ethics pledge and uses responsible finance as a corporate slogan. It also raises new questions about Citis internal controls, nearly two years after regulators forced it to strengthen its risk management and compliance practices upon losing tens of billions of dollars during the financial crisis. Foster was sentenced to 97 months imprisonment on a conviction for bank fraud arising from his embezzlement of more than $22 million from Citigroup. Foster was sentenced by the Hon. Eric N. Vitaliano, United States District Judge, at the United States Courthouse in Brooklyn.

Our compasses should be steered in their best interest: On the Way to Jamaicas 50th

n conclusion of my recognition of Child Month under the theme Jamaica 50: Celebrate Our Children, I believe it is important for us to make a personal assessment of who we are as individuals with the rights to - character; morale; sincerity; spirituality and integrity under the guise of parenting. It is interesting how a simple conversation can spark a brilliant idea. The phrase food for thought is sometimes frivolously used almost like an ellipsis that commands our intellectual calculus to delve deeper into the thought and meaning of the unspoken word. Recently, my aunt Paula recounted the episode of a friend Nancy Penton (not her real name) about 34 years ago who was unmarried and became pregnant. Not only did Nancy find herself in that quandary, but she could not handle the fact that she had acted against the moral example of her parents beautiful marriage who taught her to respect the sanctity of marriage as ordained by God based on the principle of marriage before sex. Though many thought her to be eccentric at the time, Nancy opted for a leave of absence from her professional responsibilities because she felt she had betrayed those who held her in high esteem and could not publicly conduct business in the presence of her customers with an illegitimate pregnancy; more so to be addressed as Ms. Penton. Besides her personal embarrassment, her impeccable work ethic persuaded the board of directors to secure her position pending the birth of her child. Nancys experiences taught her to raise her daughter under the guiding light of Proverbs 22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it. Today, her daughter is happily married. What aptly describes Nancys story? DESIDERATA: Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth. Society dictates that a persons right to choose is left to their own discretion. It would be froward of me to say otherwise. Like Nancy, her right to move from beneath the radar did not prove costly

to her mental state. In fact, it kept her sane. There are, however, prominent Jamaican women who were born out of wedlock and later became luminaries to those they served. Gladys Bustamante was born out of wedlock as Gladys Maud Longbridge on 8 March 1912, in Parson Reid, Westmoreland to Frank Longbridge, a farmer, and Rebecca Blackwood, a housewife. Mary Seacole was born Mary Jane Grant in Kingston, Jamaica, in 1805. Her mother was creole, and her father was white and a native of Scotland.

Nefatari Makes Music History As First Caribbean Artist at Essence Music Festival
NY/JA (Mpr Consulting/Shuzzr PR) - Essence Magazine called her a young Kelly Rowland and superstar artist and producer Pharrell Williams gave her latest hit song What U Think About Me a thumbs up while overheard playing at the Essence Music Festival empowerment seminar. These past few weeks have been a whirlwind for Nefatari, not only did she perform in New York at the Groovin In The Park headlined by legendary Gladys Knight but she made her debut on the stage of the largest event celebrating AfricanAmerican culture and music in the United States The Essence Music Festival. This was a feat in many aspects, not only did she perform at the Essence Music Festivals first ever NEW & NEXT concert, but she is also the first artist to bring Caribbean flavor with her blend of dancehall and pop music to the festival stage since its inception in 1995. Nefatari who proudly represents Jamaica and her reggae/dancehall influence, has often described her music as dancehall pop, that influence stems from her years as a background singer for Lindsay Lohan and Baby Spice of Spice Girls group. This was a first time for Nefatari in New Orleans, she performed at the Mercedez Benz Superdome to a crowd filled with screaming fans and celebrities. Nefatari and her dancers shared

It would be uncouth of me not to draw an even keel from the male perspective in this article. The translation is left to you my readers. In an excerpt from Cool Water Ministries, a non-profit Christian transition-home located in Mandeville, Jamaica where young men live before stepping into mainstream society asks this poignant question on their website. Where are the Godly male role models? Statistics now indicate that eighty percent of all children in Jamaica are born out of wedlock. Over the years, Jamaican men have taught their boys to relieve themselves on the streets, while at the same time showing how well endowed they are. They move on to prove their manhood by impregnating as many girls as

possible. In their thinking, they show the world that they are not sissies. Clive Simpson, Freelance Writer - Children born out of wedlock are still bastards Thursday | January 15, 2004 Nearly 27 years after enactment of the Status of Children Act, Jamaican children born out of wedlock are still bastards under the law. The long held belief that no bastard no deh again was shattered Friday night by Senior Resident Magistrate for St. James Glen Brown. Parliament forgot when they brought in that Act in 1976 the Status of Children Act to take away the Affiliation Act, said the RM, speaking in Montego Bay. His revelation came as he delivered the keynote address at a fund-raising dinner at the El Greco Resort commemorating the fifth anniversary of the Home of Charlottes Children at First Street in Albion, Montego Bay. On Monday February 16, 1959, the New York Times featured an article - JAMAICA: Love v. Marriage Every time me member Charlie Water come in my eye. When me member them moonshine nights, Water come in my eye. Now me pickney come born so pretty, And no papa for see, Charlie sail to England and left me - Water come in my eye. The last time heads were counted, the figures showed that seven of every ten Jamaicans were born out of wedlock. But who cares? Each May, during Baby & Child Week, every child, legitimate or illegitimate, is welcome to compete in the baby beauty contest; the only distinction is that winners whose parents are married get... Groovin In The Park:

unday July 1, heralded the long-awaited Groovin in the Park in Queens. Building on previous collaborations and some would say completing the circle, reggae and RnB came together with a line-up consisting of Boys to Men, Jimmy Cliff, Beenie Man, Beres Hammond and Gladys Knight.

Beenie Man, who recently had his work visa reinstated after an absence of two years retained his self-proclaimed title of King of the Dance Hall. With his trademark rail-thin body, clad in jeans, t-shirt and knee high skate-boots Beenie Man performed with his usual gusto, gyrations, popular dance moves and self-adoration ably assisted by singer CJ. He even introduced his 16 year old daughter to his New York fans. He knows how to evoke those dancehall memories and throws himself into Toy Friend, Let him Go, Bookshelf, Row Like a Boat, Who am I, and when he unleashed his Badman - all you could see in the park was a sea of fingers in the air.

A Review by Sheron Hamilton-Pearson

Page 15

www.linkageradio.com

The show started military time promptly at 2:00 p.m. Sandra from Brooklyn said Boys to Men singing to tracks failed to resonate with the crowd. The crowd is anxiously awaiting the next performer and the anticipation is palpable as Jimmy Cliff steps up on stage in his red and gold leisure suit. For a man in his 70s Jimmy Cliffs stamina and voice control is something newer artists could take note of. He gives a more than credible performance, including a mini history of the root of Jamaican music with his 1964 King of Kings ska hit song. For those in the audience who didnt know they were certainly taught that this was the rock and roll hall of fame inductee, movie star, veteran performer and humanitarian - Jimmy Cliff. Beenies encore is the Bob Marley classic Redemption Song. Mona from Connecticut said she was loving the show but was surprised at the fact that neither Beenie nor Beres would close. WBLS long-time hosts Shaila and Lenny Green introduce Beres Hammond as Im taking a coolout break from the blazing sun. The sweet dulcet tones of one of the best singer/songwriters in Jamaica swells and fills the park. Well-loved staples like Step Aside, Come Back Home, One Dance Sweetness, Beat Myself, Full Attention, Tempted to Touch had folks hanging onto his every syllable and doing their best to keep up with their musical icon. Pull It Up has the crowd rocking to the vibes and Beres feeling the love jumps several feet off the stage like a Jack in the Box. Beres performance is crowned when Councilman Leroy Comrie representing the Borough of Queens and Jumani Williams (on behalf of Congresswoman Yvette Clarke who was front and center with her mother former Councilwoman Una Clarke and Bishop Gonzales-Walker) present him with what is fast becoming the ubiquitous proclamation. Suddenly, a small figure in red and black starts walking across the stage as a low-key voice announces Gladys Knight. Im a bit nonplussed at this entrance, where is the build up to herald the arrival of an international artist? Nevertheless, Gladys Knight, looking fabulously fit after her

weight loss attributed to her recent Dancing with the Stars stint gets the crowd in the mood with her seminal classic If I were Your Woman and Youre the Best Thing. Riding solo without her beloved Pips, she did treat the crowd to a classic comedic performance from brother Bubba Knight who got his chance to show why the family has been able to stay current after all these years. You got the impression that the laughter and feigned embarrassment was not an act but something real showing the love of a sister for her older brother. Previewing her new song, a re-working of I Who Have Nothing in my opinion, Gladys definitely held her own with all who had come before and pleased the mainly Caribbean audience in the house who sang line for line when she hit the high notes of Neither One of Us and Midnight Train to Georgia as she made her exit.

Re-working his Vietnam to Afghanistan made it that more relevant. Wonderful World acts as a testimony of Jimmys life and love for fellow man and environment. He shows that he still has the art of showmanship down pat as he reprises a scene from his cult movie The Harder They Come. His set his pure energy and brings back a rolling tide of memories when he sings Many Rivers to Cross, The Harder They Come and I Can See Clearly Now. Sandra Gallimore a fan in the audience told me I dont know when in my lifetime Ill get to see Jimmy Cliff Again, a sentiment I certainly echo. Councilmembers Leroy Comrie from Queens and Jumani Williams from Brooklyn present proclamations to this venerable artist.

Final word from this writer - when media is invited to cover an event it almost seems as though the promoter shoots himself in the foot when access to performers is denied. Doesnt this make media redundant? It is for this reason that I decided to interact and interview members of the crowd. Hopefully this is a trend that will end before it takes hold. Reggae artiste Sizzla Kalonji has fired lyrical shots aimed at American rapper Snoop Dogg in his recent song called Burn Out Smithsonians. The Smithsonian is an institution that was founded for the increase and diffusion of knowledge founded by British chemist and researcher James Smithson. In Burn Out Smithsonians, Sizzla accuses Snoop Dogg who was recently in Jamaica, of recording the Rastafarian community for financial gain. the Rastafarian community. Based on the work that I have done with Sizzla, the Rastafarian community and Africa, I dont think that the Rastafarian community has a problem with certain ceremonies being videotaped. The issue is the process in which people use the tapings. If you go into the Rasta communities or to their ceremonies and begin to tape without permission, that is not allowed. It shows disrespect towards the people and the culture. There is also an issue of intellectual property and what the footage is being used for, Taal said. YouTube users labeled the song as being a Snoop Dogg diss record, however, Taal expressed that the reggae artiste did not have personal grouse against the rapper. I dont think that Sizzla nor any member of the Rasta community have an issue with Snoop Dogg not being Rasta. If anything the community embraces individuals who want to overstand the Rasta community, its principles, values, and way of life, she explained. The leadership within the Rastafarian community is against the exploitation of the culture for economic benefit. It is so unfortunate that people make money off Rasta but the community nor its institutions benefit, this is where the problem lies. Anybody trying to commercialize aspects of Rasta culture should go through

Harlems Queen of Soul Food Sylvia Woods Dies

New Yorks legendary Queen of Soul Food Sylvia Woods, whose iconic restaurant drew dignitaries and ordinary folk from all over the world to Harlem to taste her fried chicken, died Thursday July 19th at the age of 86. News that she died broke just as Mayor Bloomberg was paying tribute to the 50th anniversary of Sylvias at a gala reception at Gracie Mansion. We lost a legend today, the mayor said. Generations of family and friends have come together at what became a New York institution. The Woods family said she was surrounded by loved ones when she lost her battle with Alzheimers. Tributes quickly began pouring in. Sylvias has been more than a restaurant, it

has been a meeting place for black America, said the Rev. Al Sharpton, who recalled dining there with everyone from President Obama to Caroline Kennedy. Rep. Charles Rangel said he was deeply saddened by the loss of a friend. She was a dynamic, warm and kind woman whom the entire Harlem community will miss, he said. Rangel called the eatery, where he recently celebrated his squeaker primary win, a magical place that brought the community together. Sylvias may have been famous nationally and internationally, but its soul has always remained in Harlem, he said. Former Mayor David Dinkins called her an icon. Shell be missed, he said. Not just because of the wonderful business she ran and the great

The publicist also disclosed that Sizzlas song was merely speaking on behalf of the voiceless. Sizza is a voice for the voiceless. He addresses many issues through his music, so take it for what it is, face value. But let me be very clear, it is wrong to go into anyones community to film a documentary that will be distributed for economic gain without the community receiving its fair portion from the profits, she continued. The roots film based on Kunta Kinteh from The Gambia made millions of dollars. However, if you go to the village of Juffureh and visit the Kinteh family or the museum, it does not reflect the millions of dollars that were made off this story based in The Gambia. So I say to Sizzla and the Rastafarian community, keep fighting and speaking for truth and justice. Dont let anyone rape and exploit the culture. They must all go through the proper channels, always, Taal concluded.

Frequently Asked Question About Credit #1

over the next couple of weeks. The first question I receive a lot is, Is it true that bad credit can prevent me from getting a job? As hard as this is to believe, the short and fast answer to that question is yes, bad credit can prevent you from getting a job. We are in some serious economically challenging times. It is also not a new phenomena; employers have always been checking your credit as a part of the screening process to determine if you are going to get a particular job

or not. In the past a lot of emphasis was not placed on personal credit as a key criteria to determine if a potential employee is to be employed by a company or not unless you were applying for a upper management position, a financial position or planning to work for the government. But as the job market became super competitive, more and more employers are turning to your personal credit to determine if you should get the job or not regardless

of the industry. This of course does not go over well with the majority of the population, because over 83% of the American population have a negative credit rating. If you have anymore questions about credit or credit repair please do not hesitate to contact us at: Email - info@hishercredit.com and Phone number 1888-807-1892. Thank You

ighland D o b by Dobson has been very popular for years as one of Jamaicas top crooners with hits such as Sweet Dreams. However, he just displayed another very creative side of his personality with an excellently written novel, The Misadventures of Saucy and her Mama. This is a very Jamaican book written by a dedicated Jamaican, who uses an excellent command of the English language in depicting life in rural Jamaica, the quest for Jamaicans of humble means to migrate to America in search of the American dreams and the misadventures they sometimes face in search of that dream. Dobson has succeeded in taking the reader from the environment of the heart and soul of rural Jamaica, then transporting that reader to the challenges and experiences of the Jamaican migrant on coming to America. The story focus on the experiences of a young attractive Jamaican single mother, Beatrice, who, like so many Jamaicans, rich or poor, educated or uneducated, comes to America seeking a better standard of living. On her arrival, Beatrice, aka Mama, is faced with financial challenges and is unabashed to use her attractive face and body to barter and woo male admirers that helps her to climb the social and economic ladder. In the meantime her daughter, Saucy, still in Jamaica, suffers at the hands of her cruel grandmother, but Mama makes sure the young, well behaved, teen

comes to America. Bright and attractive, Saucy progress through school, gets into college, and falls in love with a young man whose color Mama is not pleased with, but who although deeply in love with Saucy turns out to be a drug dealer. Fortunately his love for Saucy pulls him back to the right side of the law, and their relationship grows. While Saucy blossoms in her personality, in college and love, Mama, who loves food as much as men grows fat and unattractive, gaining an unsavory reputation for her relationships with a merry-goround of men, losing all, and the respect of Saucy.. Dobson like an expert caterer serves up in this book like a buffet with a little of everything: sex, love, deception, jealousy, humor, Jamaica country life, Brooklyn NYC life, drugs, murder, obeah, religion, and several aspects of the Jamaican culture displayed in Jamaica and the Jamaican diaspora. The book is an intense, interesting story, which keeps the reader captivated as he/she follows the misadventures Mama and Saucy in the Jamaican community in Brooklyn,NYC. The book is a must read for Jamaicans and a refresher course on Jamaican rural life, and the realities of the experience, especially of working class Jamaican immigrants in America. It also offers a great opportunity for non-Jamaicans to understand Jamaica and the stark realities faced by migrants in big cities like New York. In summary Dobson, has created various experiences faced by Jamaicans in and outside of Jamaica in a well written,

exciting, provoking, passionate and realistic story, that moves at a fast pace, holding the attention of the reader from opening chapter to its moving conclusion.

Charitable groups can post bail for petty criminals. Legislation has passed by state lawmakers with approval from Gov. Cuomo and could free thousands of jailed Bronxites. Sponsored by state Sen. Gustavo Rivera (D-Bronx), the new law will allow charitable organizations statewide to post bail - up to $2,000 - for poor defendants held on misdemeanor charges. The Cuomo-vetted bill is an amended version of legislation that the governor rejected after it cleared the Senate and Assembly last summer, Rivera said. Poor defendants often admit guilt rather than miss work while waiting on Rikers Island for trial. Right now, many people plead guilty because they cant afford bail, he said. This law is about making the system more just. Rivera based the bill on the Bronx Freedom Fund, a program that posted bail for 120 Bronx defendants from 2007 to 2009. The program - shut down by a Bronx judge over legal issues targeted first-offenders arrested for petty crimes such as drugs and graffiti. In 2010, 16,649 New York defendants were unable to make bail set at $1,000 or less. Rivera said 93% of the defendants helped by the Bronx Freedom Fund showed up for every subsequent court date and 54% had their cases dismissed. The old version of the bill would have established a three-year pilot program. The new version caps the charitable bail amount at $2,000 but will remain on the books permanently. Rivera expected the legislation to pass last year but had to rework it to appease Cuomo, he said. The law could gum up the already-busy Bronx justice system with more trials. But Robin Steinberg, executive director of the Bronx Defenders, said the legislation will help ensure that justice is no longer determined by the size of your bank account. The bill will become law after Cuomo signs it later this year.

uslim extremists continued destroying the heritage of the ancient Malian city of Timbuktu on Monday, razing tombs and attacking the gate of a 600-yearold mosque, despite growing international outcry. The International Criminal Court has described the destruction of the citys patrimony as a possible war crime, while UNESCOs committee on world heritage was holding a special session this week to address the pillaging of the site, one of the few cultural sites in sub-Saharan Africa that is listed by the agency. The Islamic faction, known as Ansar Dine, or Protectors of the Faith, seized control of Timbuktu last week after ousting the Tuareg rebel faction that had invaded northern Mali alongside Ansar Dines soldiers three months ago. Over the weekend, fighters screaming Allah Akbar descended on the cemeteries holding the remains of Timbuktus Sufi saints, and systematically began destroying the six most famous tombs. Reached by telephone in an undisclosed location in northern Mali, a spokesman for the faction said they do not recognize either the United Nations or the world court. The only tribunal we recognize is the divine court of Shariah, said Ansar Dine spokesman Oumar Ould Hamaha.

possible war crime, according to private radio station RFM. And on Monday, State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland condemned the destruction, telling reporters in Washington that the United States calls on all groups to enter into a ceasefire. For years before the north of Mali became a base for an offshoot of al-Qaida, Timbuktu was a must-see for backpackers and package tour groups. Much of the city thrived on tourism, from young men who memorized the history of the tombs and details of the ancient manuscripts to in order to act as tour guides to the numerous hotels, nearly all of which are now shuttered. Hamaha said he didnt care about the impact that their actions will have on tourism. We are against tourism. They foster debauchery, he said. Scholars held out hope that the Islamists would not also attack the citys 20,000-catalogued manuscripts, some dating as far back as the 12th century. Beyond the tombs, the manuscripts are considered to be the real treasure of the region and library owners have succeeded in spiriting some of the manuscripts out of the city, or else buried them in secure locations. this is generation of historical site and years of cultural facts that are been destroyed in the name of religious war, we are asking ourselves when are these destructions going to stop. Anytime we destroy our countries in the name of war, we are the same ones to rebuild it and it takes more time and resources.

The destruction is a divine order, he said. Its our Prophet who said that each time that someone builds something on top of a grave, it needs to be pulled back to the ground. We need to do this so that future generations dont get confused, and start venerating the saints as if they are God. Among the tombs they destroyed is that of Sidi Mahmoudou, a saint who died in 955, according to the UNESCO website. In addition, on Monday they set upon one of the

doors of the Sidi Yahya, a mosque built around 1400. Local legend held that the gate leading to the cemetery would only open on the final day at the end of time. Local radio host Kader Kalil said that the members of Ansar Dine arrived at the mosque with shovels and pickaxes and yanked off the door, revealing a wall behind it. Kalil said that they explained they were doing so in order to disabuse people of the local legend and to teach them to put their whole faith in the Quran. Since my childhood, I have never seen the door on the western side of the mosque open. And I was born in 1947, said Kader, a longtime resident of the city. When we were children, we were told that the door would only open at the end of time. These religious people want to go to the source, to show us that this is not true. .... Of course our population is not happy. The women, especially, are crying a lot. Timbuktu was a center of Islamic learning, a very significant center there is lots of internal and external evidence of this. But Ansar Dine is ignorant of this. For them, there is only one book and its the Quran. All this other (Islamic) learning is inconsequential to them, he said. The U.N. cultural agency has

called for an immediate halt to the destruction of the sacred tombs. Irina Bokova, who heads the U.N. Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, reported in a statement issued Saturday that the centuries-old mausoleums of Sidi Mahmoud, Sidi Moctar and Alpha Moya had been destroyed. Meeting in St. Petersburg in Russia, UNESCOs World Heritage Committee, last week placed the mausoleums on its list of sites in danger due to earlier attacks by the Islamists, said UNESCO spokesman Rony Amelan. On Sunday during a stop in Senegal, Fatou Bensouda, prosecutor for the International Criminal Court, said that the destruction of the citys patrimony constitutes a

Jamaica will have another individual representing the country at the 2012 London Olympics this time in football. But how could that be when the country failed to qualify a team to the global showpiece? Jamaica will be represented not on the field of play, but on lines with assistant referee Stacy-Ann Greyson. Greyson, 26, who has been an international assistant referee since 2010, will be the only match official from Jamaica and the wider Caribbean who was selected to be part of the Womens Olympic refereeing panel. But Graysons representation is much larger than just Jamaica; she is also representing the entire Caribbean nation. She is one of six assistant referees from the CONCACAF region which has two from USA, one each from Canada, Mexico, Honduras and Jamaica. There are also three referees from Mexico, Canada and the USA. I felt very happy. My eyes were filled with water knowing I am the only person representing my country and the Caribbean, Greyson stated. I am an ambassador for my country. They said 51 persons will be leaving for the Olympics, but they never know I was going too. I am the 52nd person, she noted. Greyson, who played football at Lennon High School before starting her career as an assistant referee seven years ago at age 19, will be the first Jamaican in action as the Womens Football competition kicks off on July 25. She is expected to be paired with the Canadians, one of whom she has already worked with. Twelve teams will participate in the tournament, with the United States being defending champions. They are drawn in Group G alongside France, Colombia and North Korea. World Cup champions Japan are in Group F with Canada, Sweden and South Africa, forming an intriguing group. Group E consists of Great Britain, New Zealand, Cameroon and Brazil. Greyson, who played wing-back on both flanks as a versatile two-footed player like Philipp Lahm of Germany, just loves the lines and says she has no intention of switching to the middle to be a referee.

Now that he has been released from prison, Leighton Livity Coke says he is not interested in being a don for Tivoli Gardens. With the sentencing of his brother Christopher Dudus Coke, everyone expected Livity to take over. But this does not seem to be what he has in mind. Seven brothers, seven different minds. That is why I am using this opportunity to say that I am not interested in being area leader or don or strongman of Tivoli. HAMILTON, Bermuda (CMC) A sweet-tongued Trinidadian fraudster, who took advantage of a Jamaicans immigration dreams and conned him out of US$14,346 by pretending to be an immigration lawyer, has received a suspended prison sentence and was ordered to pay his victim back. Joel Balfour, a 42-year-old Trinidadian computer worker, told Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner: This has set me back in my life. I have lost my job, but I was able to come up with 90 per cent of the financing. As his victim, Jamaican construction worker Albert Ricketts, who was left destitute by the scam, looked on, Balfour told the magistrate he could pay back $13,000 right away. Noting the fraud caused Ricketts great mental stress, as well as the loss of his savings, Crown counsel Geoffrey Faiella suggested an immediate custodial sentence of nine to 12 months. Balfour, posing as a non-existent Canadian immigration lawyer named Patrick Ferguson, the court heard, took payments from Ricketts, who was hoping to obtain work in Canada and move his family there. Balfour collected a series of payments from Ricketts from last November until April, when he was arrested. But the magistrate hinted that the victim was as much to blame as the offender as the entire deal was not on the level. One of the matters I must consider is who is to blame. We know that scams, in particular immigration scams,

a lot of them come about because people who want to emigrate think that they can buy immigration clearance on the side. In short, they are knowingly participating in obtaining status by outside means, Senior Magistrate Warner said. Saying Ricketts must have known Balfour was not a lawyer, the magistrate said he did not believe Balfour had misused a legitimate position of trust. He imposed a sentence of six months imprisonment, to be suspended for 24 months. Balfour was further ordered to repay the $13,000 immediately and the balance within three months. Asked by the magistrate how he thought he could have obtained a Canadian visa, Balfour said: I didnt think I could. I would try. He added: This is something I was just going to try and see what I could do. In the process, I misused his friendship ... I talked to him and convinced him. Apologizing to the court, Balfour said: This is something that just came over me. I was going through some hardship.
