From 1996 to 1999, she served as Vice President of Marketing and Events at the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. In 2006, Ms. Avila was recognized as one of the 20 Most Influential and Outstanding Hispanic Women in Business by Hispanic Trends Magazine and she received the New America Alliance Chairmens Leadership Award in 2004. Ms. Avila earned a Bachelor of Science in Business and Hospitality Management from the University of Central Florida.
Staff Updates
Debra Paular Aban has joined CaliforniaALL as the External Affairs Consultant. Ms. Aban is a recognized professional in innovative education, community development , the media and public relations. As Educational Services Manager for the Sacramento Bee, she was responsible for program development, funding, marketing and promotion for the Newspaper in Education program offered to schools throughout Northern California. She created state and national acclaimed programs including Hispanic Heritage sponsored by the Ford Foundation, Get Focused sponsored by Vision Service Plan, Banking on Our Future sponsored by Wells Fargo, and the Weather Wizard program sponsored by News10 (ABC). Ms. Aban spent 25 years with the Sacramento Bee, and most recently, served as managing editor for the Asian Pacific American News & Review newspaper distributed to the Northern and Central Valley regions of California. She was instrumental in the development of several sections including Education, Senior Times, Voices, and Spotlight on Non-Profits. Theresa Garcia, former Assistant Secretary of Education for K-12 in California, has joined the team of CaliforniaALL as an Education Consultant. As Assistant Secretary of Education, she was primary advisor to the Secretary for Education on early childhood and K-12 education policy and served on the state First 5 Commission. Ms. Garcia has worked on K-12 and early education policy in California for the past 15 years and has advised local and statewide agencies and non-profit organizations on public policy and advocacy. She served as Vice President for California Policy for Children Now, a state and national childrens advocacy organization where she handled Education and Health policy projects, grant development, project management, and advocacy.

CaliforniaALL President/CEO announces launch of the Financial Services Task Force. SEMPRA hosts luncheon to introduce CaliforniaALL and President/CEO to local business and community leaders. CaliforniaALL President/CEO attends the Wall Street Hall of Fame Gala & Induction in New York. CaliforniaALL President/CEO speaks at the American Bar Association (ABA) MidYear meeting in Boston. CaliforniaALL completes first annual audit. Final report to be presented at April 2009 Board Meeting. UC Irvine Saturday Academy of Law honors first graduating students in Santa Ana on March 7th. CaliforniaALL President/CEO attends Education Summit hosted by Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson. Anne Stausboll, CEO of CalPERS to host first face to face meeting of the CaliforniaALL Financial Services Task Force (FSTF).
