Continued from Page 1 Presidents Member of the Month, July, 2012 Romulus Athletic Center Since its opening in March of 2008, the Romulus Athletic Center continues to provide local residents with a unique location to recognize and achieve their fitness goals, whatever those goals may be. With a five pool aquatic complex, state of the art fitness facility, basketball courts, indoor walking track, two story rock wall, day care, teen center and banquet room, there truly is something for everyone at the RAC. In a little over four years since its opening the membership at the RAC has grown significantly, with over 9,000 members from 75 different communities in the region coming through its doors. The RAC is the only health club around that rewards its members for getting fit, with its Commitment Resolution which offers an exact percentage off your next membership determined by the number of pounds you lose. Its a one of a kind program that has already reduced weight and membership costs for the people who have enrolled and has seen some members lose as much as 77 lbs. in one year! The RAC also is a partner in the Healthways SilverSneakers Fitness Program, which offers free gym memberships to senior citizens with qualifying insurance in addition to their specially designed senior fitness classes like Muscular Strength and Range of Motion, Yoga Stretch and SilverSplash.

Do you need that extra nudge to get you off the chair and into fitness? Try one of the RACs specially designed group exercise classes. With a full lineup of Zumba, Yoga, Pilates, Boot Camp and Core exercise classes youre bound to find something that makes it fun to get fit. For those looking for a lower impact workout, try the aquatic fitness classes such as the Classic, Deep Water, Power Walking, Cardio Core, and the Arthritis Association classes, which all provide a great physical workout with almost no impact in the RACs aquatic water park. The RAC offers many programs for children and young adults, as well. From the ever popular birthday parties, swim lessons designed for every age and ability, summer vacation and day camps, Kids Night Out, Tae Kwon Do and basketball instructional classes, its a good bet that your youngster can get off the couch and find an outlet into a fun and rewarding fitness activity. The RAC offers American Red Cross lifeguard training classes, as well, with over 175 lifeguards at various pools in the region having received their basic certification at the RAC. The staff and members of the RAC are honored to be recognized by the Greater Romulus Chamber of Commerce as the Member of the Month for July. They encourage all Chamber members and their families to stop by and get fit, shoot some hoops, or come out for a swim, and experience everything the RAC has to offer. Presidents Ponderings

Todays lesson on managing and being the best leader possible:

Select the best person for the job. Look past the personality conflicts. Choose to do the right thing no matter how you feel. And never forget the power of kindness will win over a stubborn heart!

Lincolns Lesson on Leadership

From his earliest days in politics, Abraham Lincoln had a critic who continually treated him with contempt. An extremely rude man, Edwin Stanton would say to newspaper reporters that Lincoln was a low cunning clown and the original gorilla. In spite of personal and slanderous attacks Lincoln never responded, never retaliated. When Lincoln was elected President, he needed a Secretary of War and selected Edwin Stanton. When his friends asked why, Lincoln replied, Because he is the best man for the job. Years later, that fateful night came when an assassins bullet murdered the president. Lincolns body was carried off to another room. Edwin Stanton came, and looking down upon the silent, rugged face of his dead President, said through his tears, There lies the greatest ruler of men the world has ever seen. Early on in my career I realized that good leadership would be crucial if I wanted to be a success. I needed to know: what makes a good leader? So I purchased the books, listened to the self-help tapes and tried to ask all the right questions when in the company of successful managers. I soon realized that there while there were many factors that would contribute to good leadership it was the power of love and kindness that would prove most valuable.

Home Burglaries Can Spike As Residents Go On Vacation

While Michigan residents are getting ready to head out for much-deserved summer vacations, burglars may be planning to ruin their fun. There wer 71,810 burglaries in Michigan in 2010, down from 75,066 in 2009. Many of those occur in the summer months, according to the Insurance Institute of Michigan (IIM). Standard homeowners insurance policies provide coverage for theft of personal possessions and damage to the home caused by a break-in. If you own valuable jewelry or other luxury goods, be sure to ask your insurance agent or company representative whether you should consider purchasing an endorsement to ensure adequate coverage for these items. Many policies limit the amount of coverage for certain items, such as jewelry, art and cash. In addition to having the right insurance coverage, IIM offers these preventive measures to keep your home safe:

Turn off your computer and disconnect it from the Internet. If you save personal information in your computer, make sure it is difficult to access. Add a password to your personal computer. You dont want a hacker at work while you are on vacation. Keep valuables under lock and key and well hidden. Do not leave personal documents in your home office or desk burglars know to look for them there. Put critical documents in a lock box or safe somewhere else in the house. Keep copies of important documents at another location - a relatives home, for example. Expensive jewelry should also be hidden somewhere other than the bedroom or left in a safe deposit box at the bank.

Information provided by Insurance Institute of Michigans monthly publication.

Happy Birthday!!

Make it time consuming to break into your home. Dead-bolt window and door locks can slow a burglar down. You may also obtain a discount of 2 to 5 percent on your insurance policy for installing these devices. Make it noisy to break into your home. Invest in a burglar alarm. The most effective systems ring at an outside service, which alerts the police, fire and other emergency services. A sophisticated alarm system could result in insurance discounts of 15 to 20 percent. Make sure you have strong doors. Outside doors and frames should be made of metal or solid hardwood and be at least 1 3/4-inches thick. Each door must fit its frame securely. Even the best lock will not deter a burglar if it is installed in a weak door. Garage doors also need strong locks. If you have a tool shed, keep it locked since burglars can use the tools to break into your home.
