Stages of the lesson

Activity 1: Warm- up Procedure: The teacher checks if Ss. had any problems resolving the homework assignment. Then the teacher presents the topic of the lesson: acquiring new vocabulary: jobs; and using the present simple tense in sentences. Introductory conversation Interaction: T-Ss, S-T Time: 3 min Activity 2: Lead in Procedure: T refers to each postcard and asks to guess what countries the three postcards come from Interaction: T-Ss, S-S Time: 7 min Activity 3: Presentation Procedure:- one S reads the first postcard - T elicits clues that confirm the postcard is from Hawaii - Ss read in groups of two the other extracts and match the two halves - T selects three Ss to read out the completed postcards and check answers Interaction: T-Ss, S-Ss, PW Time: 5 min Activity 4: Scanning the text Procedure:- Ss read the postcard from Hawaii to complete the task - T asks class open questions - T makes notes on the Bb - Ss make notes - check the answers open-class Interaction: T-Ss, S-Ss, IW Time: 5 min Activity 5: Practice Procedure:-Ss read the list of adjectives from the Language Focus box - T highlights that ing adjectives are used to show what an object or person is like, and ed adjectives are used to show how a person feels about an object or another person - Ss answer the questions (ex 3) Interaction: T-Ss, Ss-T, IW Time: 5 min Activity 6: Production Procedure:- Ss work ex.4 - for further practice Ss are given worksheets

- in groups, Ss solve the exercises - class feedback Interaction: T-Ss, Ss- T, GW Time: 5 min Activity 7: Further practice Procedure: - T asks Ss to look at the pictures quickly and to read the conversation - T asks Ss how many people are speaking and which of the pictures the conversation is about - T elicits that there are four people and they are talking about picture 1 - T asks a group of four to read the conversation substituting the adjectives for clowns - Ss are asked to work in groups of four and make similar conversations - two groups act out the conversations in front of the class Interaction: T-Ss, Ss-T, GW, role-play Time: 10 min Activity 8: Report the groups opinions Procedure: -one S reads the e.g. on page 7/ex 5 b - the secretary of each group reports his/her group members opinions Interaction: Ss- Ss Time: 3 min Activity 9: Feed-back Procedure:- T refers to ex 6 and elicits answers - Ss discuss briefly their opinions - T writes the agreed topics on the Bb - Ss copy them into their notebooks Interaction: T-Ss, S-Ss, Ss- T Time: 5 min Activity 10: Homework Procedure: - Ss are asked to write a postcard - T hands them postcards - Ss are asked to use the adjectives from the Language Focus box - Ss are asked to write about what they like/ dont like about the place they are visiting Interaction: T-Ss Time: 2 min
