Are We Spending
Tax Dollars Wisely?
In my 15 years as a CPA, Ive become an expert in
identifying ways to reduce expenses. Without hands-
on knowledge of Township operations, Ive identified
opportunities to reduce our expenses while helping our
township catch up with modern technology capabilities.
Electronic Payments - The Township is still paying
vendors with paper checks. Who writes checks on a
regular basis anymore? Converting vendors to electronic
payments is a simple process that saves postage, supply
costs and labor on every check we print.
Bank Lockbox - The township does not utilize a Lockbox
for tax deposits. Instead, checks come to township hall where they are opened
by hand, manually entered into the Townships computer system and onto
deposit tickets. We then pay for someones time to drive to the bank and make
the deposit and we pay them for their mileage too. With a lockbox, tax deposits
would go directly to the bank where trained bank personnel capture an electronic
image of the check along with the tax payers parcel number, payment amount
and name. The Treasures office could then download all payments electronically
into a spreadsheet and import them into our Township computer system. What
currently takes weeks to manually enter can be done electronically in seconds.
Given that our Township already banks with Chase Bank and Chase Bank is,
in my opinion, a leader in online banking capabilities for ACH and Lockbox
processing, why have these opportunities been ignored? As CFO at Lynn
Medical, I implemented both of these items over 5 years ago.
If I can find these obvious opportunities from the outside looking in, it stands
to reason that there are plenty more to be found. Lets get me inside where I
can really have a positive impact reducing expenses and reducing taxes. Vote
for me on August 7th and help me make a difference.

A physician assistant (PA) is a medical professional who works as part of a
team with a doctor. A PA is a graduate of an accredited PA educational
program who is nationally certified and state-licensed to practice medicine
with the supervising physician.
What can PAs do?
PAs perform physical examinations, diagnose and treat illnesses, order and
interpret lab tests, perform procedures, provide patient education and
counseling and make rounds in hospitals and nursing homes.
How do doctors and PAs work together?

medicine with physician supervision. Supervision does not mean, though, that
a supervising physician must always be present with the PA or direct every
aspect of PA-provided care.
PAs are trained and educated similarly to physicians, and therefore share
similar diagnostic and therapeutic reasoning. Physicians delegate duties to
PAs, and within those range of duties, PAs use autonomous decision-making
for patient care. This team model is an efficient way to provide high-quality
medical care.

Residents entrust their hard earned dollars to the Treasurer, who con-
stantly watches over the economic landscape to invest or deposit them
where they will be secure. As Treasurer, I never want to see a day where
the services promised, can no longer be delivered.
In addition to the statutoary duties of the Treasurer, there are many
other responsibilities an elected official is responsible for. The Treasurer
is involved in bankruptcies and foreclosures, both tax and mortgage, for
individuals and commercial entities. He assists in negotiating contracts
with entities we service. He deals with land use issues and must be
familiar with the Townships Master Plan. Some of the toughest deci-
sions made by an elected official are over land use. Most importantly,
the Treasurer is on the front line, dealing with constituents issues and
needs on a day to day basis.
