SIROCCO Luft- und Umwelttechnik GmbH has been a leader in industrial air technology for more than 100 years. The traditional core of our business is the production of industrial fans and heat exchangers. In addition, complementary products including filter systems, cyclones and regulating devices have been developed, to meet the growing air technology requirements of the industry. New market opportunities in the 1980s led to the development of SIROCCO products for the ventilation and safety of road tunnels. At this time, the first SIROCCO tunnel dampers were already being installed. Not least due to grave tunnel fires, today much greater importance is attributed to the improvement of safety through tunnel ventilation than it was the case just years ago. While until recently train tunnels were rarely fitted with tunnel ventilation, this is now standard procedure for many new international construction projects. In the area of road tunnels, controllable ventilation dampers (air supply) and fire fume ventilation dampers, alongside comprehensive safety measures, are now required in the ventilation system by the applicable EU directives. With these ventilation dampers, can not only the basic tunnel ventilation be better regulated and controlled, but also especially in the case of fire, the smoke fumes at the fire source can be selectively dispersed to prevent an uncontrolled spread of the smoke fumes throughout the tunnel. SIROCCO has been able, through the constant further development of professional competence in the air and environment sector, to grow into a development and production company for challenging customer-specific solutions in an international format. Comprehensive know-how, individual custom work and the highest quality according to ISO 9001:2000 are specialities of SIROCCO.

In all underground traffic facilities, Sirocco dampers are used as fan shut-off valves for fresh air as well as for high temperature exhaust air.

Road Tunnels
The exhaust air dampers are implemented for the controlled, selective extraction of fumes in the case of fire. While in normal operation the dampers are used to ensure even ventilation throughout the length of the tunnel, in the case of an incident only the dampers in the immediate vicinity of the fire source are opened completely, to apply the full effect of the exhaust directly at the source of the smoke. Consequently, the escape routes are kept smoke free for escape by tunnel users as well as for access by emergency teams without compromising safety. In accordance with the growing requirements of norms, directives and workmanship in underground traffic facilities, SIROCCO dampers offer a decisive contribution to the efficient improvement of tunnel safety.

Train and Subway Tunnels

This area of dampers demands various requirement criteria for diverse possible applications. The requirements range from fresh air dampers to fire safety dampers for the closing of tunnel sections. Extreme requirements are demanded by the construction of long railway tunnels. Here, the effective prints and the acceptable leakage of the dampers reach the maximum level. The combination of many years of experience and constant development, as well as a comprehensive test program, ensures that SIROCCO dampers exhibit the highest quality standards.

Tunnel Exhaust Damper Type TRD (Tunnel Roof Damper)

Are developed especially for the demanding requirements of European road tunnels, and are manufactured from high-grade, corrosion resistant steel (1.4571). They feature very high impermeability at high pressure, and are ideal for use at temperatures of up to 400C/180min. Through decades of experience, constant further development, consistent striving for quality and innumerable installations, SIROCCO has become one of Europes leading manufacturers of tunnel ventilation dampers. Because safety should never be compromised. The fish-belly vane developed by SIROCCO has been optimised according to flow-technical standpoints. The result is, on one hand, only slight cross-sectional narrowing when the damper is open, and, on the other hand, an efficient flow through the vanes which is low in both resistance and turbulence. Through the fitting of the ventilation dampers in the intermediate ceiling (instead of on top of the intermediate ceiling), constrictions of the cross-section in the ventilation duct are minimised. The synchronous damper vanes are arranged corresponding to the direction of air, and thus support the impulse effect.

Tunnel Ventilation Damper Type HID (High Integrity Damper)

The modular damper series type HID was developed in accordance with international industrial air standards, and is suited to use in train and subway tunnels, power stations, marine ventilations and general industry ventilation. SIROCCO HID dampers can be supplied in many designs and configurations: Both directionally corresponding and directionally opposing vanes enable the optimal adaptation on a particular use case. Through an extensive range of accessories and options, the regular dampers may also be utilised as sealed smoke fume dampers, or as self-regulating fire dampers (BS 476). The standardised HID dampers are finished in both galvanised, zinc-plated steel and corrosion resistant steel. The cost-efficient design features outstanding flow technology characteristics, low leakage, slight pressure loss and high dynamic load capacity. The almost maintenance-free operational reliability is ensured through the standard installation of oil impregnated bronze bearings and corrosion resistant drive rods. Tunnel Seal-off Damper Type HDD (Heavy Duty Damper)

HDD seal-off dampers are manufactured from welded steel plates and feature particularly robust design. They are used as separating and sealing-off dampers in industrial ventilation systems, as well as in tunnels and power stations. SIROCCO seal-off dampers are customised according to customer requirements, and made to size (e.g. separated, pivoting, round or special geometry). The extremely robust design enables a very high dynamic load-bearing capacity. The flow-favourable geometry of the vanes simultaneously ensures a small resistance factor.

Special Equipment
Cladding Gradings and offsets in the air-conducting concrete ducts are cladded with steel panels in order to prevent turbulence and to minimise flow resistance. Air duct fixtures Diversion vanes are implemented to minimise the flow-loss in duct delays and diversions. The radius of the curvature, as well as the number and spacing of the diversion vanes are adjusted to suit the profile in order to guarantee optimal flow-through conditions. Mounting covers In order to close the openings through which the ventilation systems are brought into the designated spaces, movable mounting covers are used. These covers are soundproof and temperature insulated, and are manufactured from various materials according to customer requirements.

Customised Solutions
SIROCCO dampers are generally designed to suit the specific requirements of our customers, and are available in various sizes, materials and for various functions. Our dampers are based on the strictest quality inspections, which guarantee that the requirements of our customers are fulfilled in every respect. In addition, we use the most modern software programs for 3D-construction, stability analysis and 3D-simulation. We provide the option of comprehensive factory testing, including impermeability and load-bearing capacity tests, and also have our products tested for certification at international independent accreditation institutions. Our solutions package is completed through our flexible and experiences installation and service team. Our business philosophy is to provide work collaboratively with our customers from the first concept phase of a project to the delivery of an optimal and cost effective solution.
