ORDER OF BATTLE (ORBAT)

BRITISH ARMY QUEBEC 1759 (PLAINS OF ABRAHAM) Note: (1) This ORBAT attempts to demonstrate the Brigade command structure in the field on the day of battle as opposed to the administrative brigade structure in place for the campaign. We know that Murray commanded the left of the firing line (front), Townsend had command of the left flank and Monkton the right of the firing line and right flank: none of whom retained consistent command on the day of all those regiments normally allocated to their brigades. For the campaign and administrative brigading, see Osprey publishing (Campaign) Quebec 1759, The Battle That Won Canada (page 13). (2) ADCs are identified for wargaming systems representing command vignettes and for systems requiring physical communication of orders.

Major of Brigade: Lieutenant Henry Dobson (47th Foot) 3/60th Foot - Commander: Lieutenant Colonel Sir John Saint Clair 2/60th Foot - Commander: Captain Ralph Harding 15th Foot - Commander: Major Paulus Aemilius Irving Left Firing Line Brigade Commander: Brigadier General James Murray Notes: Probably uniformed as Lieutenant Colonel of the 15th Foot. Major of Brigade: Captain Hon. Richard Maitland (43rd Foot5) 58th Foot - Commander: Major James Agnew 78th Foot - Commander: Captain James Campbell 47th Foot - Commander: lieutenant Colonel John Hale Light Brigade Commander: Colonel William Howe Notes: Uniformed as his rank - Lieutenant Colonel 58th Foot. Major of Brigade: John Hussey (47th Foot) Dallings Lights - Commander: Major John Dalling (28th Foot6) Sub-Commanders: Captain William Delaune (67th Foot) and Captain John Carden (60th Foot) Composite Light Battalion - Commander: Major John Hussey (47th Foot) Note: As Howe is identified as commanding all light troops, I have ascribed Hussey as the composite (detached) light infantry as per Wolfes orders of 28th June. This concurs with the assumptions made by Stuart Reid (Osprey Quebec, page 68). CORE REFERENCE: Quebec 1759: The Battle That Won Canada (Osprey Campaign) by Stuart Reid
