UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA, SANTA CRUZ NEW STUDENT MAJOR ADVISING SUMMARY FOR 2012-2013 FROSH Students are admitted

to UCSC with a "proposed major" in most cases, and later petition to officially declare the major. Admission to UCSC does not guarantee acceptance into a particular major. Students must be declared in a major by the end of the second year (or equivalent), so learning about and preparing for a major is a primary goal for first-year students.

Major: COMPUTER ENGINEERING

Importance of an early start: This is a course-intensive and/or highly sequential program, and students who intend to pursue this major must begin taking classes for the major in their first term at UCSC. Admission requirements Admission to this major is selective. Early admission into a BSOE major and/or prerequisites for is based on high school grade point average, test scores, courses completed the major: in mathematics and sciences, and/or the personal statement. Once at UCSC, students will be accepted into the major based on grade point average in courses offered by the BSOE and the Division of Physical and Biological Sciences, as well as, in the second year, completion of major requirements. Detailed information about admission to this major will be available at summer and fall orientation. Students who have completed beginning of fall term... a college-level transferable pre-calculus or calculus course, or who have earned a 3 or higher on the AP calculus AB or BC exam do not need to take the placement exam but should ensure their official records are sent. Students with college-level transferable courses must mail or email a copy of the transcript to Baskin School of Engineering Undergraduate Advising before July 1, in addition to providing the official transcript to the UCSC Admissions Office.
