22 Mircea Eliade Craiova Teacher: Truic Andreea-Cristina Class: VII Level: Intermediate Time: 50 Textbook: Generation 2000 Lesson: The Future in Your Hands (Past Tense Simple, Modal verbs: can/cant, must/mustnt) Type of lesson: revision and consolidation Teaching aims: - to revise selected vocabulary items (buildings, adjectives used to describe people); - to practice the Past Tense Simple in various contexts (completing sentences, interaction with other pupils); - to practice the use of the modal verbs in various contexts. - to use their knowledge about modal verbs in asking questions and giving answers; - to use their knowledge about Past Tense Simple to fill in gaps in a text; - to use their knowledge about modal verbs to make up a set of rules for doctors. xerox copies with Charlies life story and three exercises tape and tape player, worksheets for each group Most pupils are confident in using both the Past Tense Simple and the modal verbs and know a lot of words related to buildings and people. They may have problems with some irregular verbs as well as with the pronunciation and spelling of mustnt. Working in groups will make them a bit noisy.

Teachers activity - Greet the students. - Ask them Which are your goals?, Do you know any famous person? - Give them the worksheets and they have to read it and fill in the verbs, in the Past Tense. - The verbs they have to use in the text are already on the blackboard. - After they finish their task, I play the tape with Charlies life story. - Ask some pupils to read it again. - Ask questions What is the text about?, Who is the main character?,What did he do? - Ask the pupils to arrange 8 sentences to make up a story. - What would you do for a better living? - Today we are specialists in this sort of problems. - I split the class in two groups, each group has its own task.

Students activity - The students answer to my greeting. - They talk briefly about their goals and mention some names of famous people. - They tell me the correct Past Tense form of the verbs on the blackboard and then they use them to complete a text. - The listen to the tape and check if they have used the right verbs. - Read the text. - Answer the questions; - Rearrange the sentences.

- Ask the two teams to interact and find answers for their questions. - Turn the page and you have two exercises about rules Seven pupils do exercise 1, and seven exercise 2. - When they finish I ask them to read the exercise. - Would you like to be a doctor? Why? Make up a set of rules for doctors using must/mustnt - Ask them to do the remaining exercise at home
