RPL Has the Tools You Need to Succeed


A new school year begins soon! Rowan Public Library has the tools you need for help with homework assignments, research, and test taking. The library has plenty of materials available for checkout, computers to use, and staff to help you find what you need. The library also offers powerful online resources that can help you this school year. NC LIVE is North Carolinas statewide online library service. NC LIVE resources include eBooks, and North Carolina information. Try out the Biography Reference Center, a database offering a comprehensive collection of more than 460,000 fulltext biographies. Users can enter the name of an individual directly, but can also locate biographies of interest by browsing more than 30 categories. These include actors, authors, historical figures, inventors, and presidents. High school students looking for help with college preparation will find Learning Express Library to be a

For reports on North Carolina, check out NCPedia, another link on the Homework Help page. NCpedia is an online encyclopedia that highlights the states unique resources, people, and culture. NCpedia is coordinated and managed by the Government and Heritage Library at the State Library of North Carolina, part of the NC Dept. of Cultural Resources. Use the menu tabs to browse NC history, geography, wildlife and more. Or choose quick facts for information and links to state symbols, political figures, and population statistics.

Introduction to NC Digital Library and eBooks

Summer Reading Program at RPL was a huge success, with over 1,100 children registered at all three RPL locations. Participants enjoyed weekly entertainment provided by RPL staff and professional performers including Red Herring Puppets (photo, top left), Zelnick the magician (photo, middle), and Ventriloquist Steve Brogan (photo, bottom left).

Sergeant Amerson with the Rowan County Sheriffs Office spoke to teens during a program on Crime Scene Investigation and selfdefense. Amersons visit was part of RPLs Own the Night Summer Reading Program for teens. The well-attended programs were a big hit, and there were over 185 teens registered. Amerson shared stories from his 25 year career in law enforcement with the teen audience (photo, left) and discussed safety tips with Ashley Lynn (photo, right). Other weekly programs included learning about nocturnal animals with Rowan County Nature Center Supervisor Bob Pendergrass, painting with light, and fun with astronomy!
