IDENTITY
Jesus said: You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. (Matthew 5:14-16 ESV)

Providence Church is a community of people being transformed by the Gospel news about Jesus - his life, death and resurrection. We desire to bring glory to Jesus in our life together, in sharing the Gospel news, and in living for the good of the city.

We give thanks to God as we come to the close of our third year at Providence Church. The Lord Jesus is building his church and its a joy to be a part of and to watch.
Looking back on 2011 many events and people come to mind for which we want to give thanks to God. The year ended on a high note with the baptisms of Thandi and Eileen and the Christmas Eve service. If you couldn't get there, the baptisms were held at the Swan River and were adjacent to a beautiful outdoor wedding, a fitting backdrop to two sinners coming to a point of publically declaring their faith and allegiance to Jesus. The testimonies of Thandi and Eileen were a celebration of God's work in their lives over the past 6 months or so. The past year also included the arrival of the Rankin Road missional community from Unichurch. It has been a kindness of Jesus to see that group grow in number and godliness this year. Providence ended 2011 with five missional communities and while the start of 2012 may see some changes for the current groups, the growth in the number of missional community groups has required additional coaching of leaders and we rejoice in these changes. The decision in last year's budget to employ Steve McAlpine 2 days per week in 2011 was timely with the growth in the number of missional communities. Steve and Jill bring many gifts and ministry experience to Providence and Steve has strengthened the teaching and training areas for all. In the final few months of 2011 Damon Sokolowski gave a day per week to engage in sharing the gospel in Bassendean meeting people on the streets mostly. It's a tough work, but the first steps have been really positive. The proximity of Steve and Nigel Gordon, Damon Wasserman and John Raston In Him, We are very excited about what God might do amongst Providence Church in 2012. Our original vision for bringing glory to God by planting seeds of the gospel of Jesus Christ to give rise to his church is still our driving goal. With prayer, faithfulness and grace we pray that Jesus will build his church mightily in the year ahead. The 2012 budget reflects the developments that have taken place in 2011. As has been the case since the start of Providence, the single largest element of the 2012 budget is staffing. In particular, the budget allows for the employment of Nigel Gordon (1 day per week), Steve McAlpine (3 days per week) and Damon Sokolowski (1 day per week). Nigel will continue to oversee and lead the ministry of Providence. Steve will continue to equip the saints for ministry through teaching and training. And together, Steve and Damon will begin what we hope will be the genesis of Providence Midland. Damon's day per week will be devoted to seeking to establish a number of missional communities in the Midland-Bassendean area by the end of 2012. Deb Karajas will continue to provide administrative support to Providence. Damon in Bassendean/Swan View has opened opportunities for the coming year.
