Patient Education from the Journal of Midwifery & Womens Health: Share with Women
This year, the Journal of Midwifery & Womens Health (JMWH) celebrates the 10th anniversary of its patient education column: Share with Women. Tekoa King, CNM, MPH, FACNM, created this column in 2002 when she was the JMWH editor-in-chief. She continues to work on the column as deputy editor, and I greatly appreciate her helping the Journal to provide this important contribution to women and clinicians. Sarah Cox, CNM, MSN, MPH, joined the JMWH Editorial Board as contributing editor for the Share with Women column in 2003 and served in this position for more than 7 years. The current Share with Women contributing editor is Lindsey Wilson, CNM, DNP, whose doctoral capstone project focused on developing low-literacy health education materials for women. She recently published an article1 on this topic that is helpful reading for anyone interested in contributing to the Share with Women column. Over the past decade, dozens of midwives and other clinicians have served as authors and reviewers for the Share with Women column. Today, there are more than 60 Share with Women handouts available on diverse topics related to midwifery and womens health. Eleven of the handouts are also available in Spanish. A complete list of current Share with Women handouts can be found in Table 1. The handouts are written at a level that is appropriate for women who have low literacy skills, but the topics are relevant for a wide range of women. Share with Women is now the last column in the Journal so that it is easy to find. Often, a Share with Women handout addresses a topic featured in 1 of the articles in the same is-

sue of JMWH. In this issue, we introduce a new graphic (see Figure 1) so readers can easily identify articles that have a related Share with Women handout. All of the Share with Women handouts are copyright free, so they can be printed or reproduced and distributed to patients. The entire Share with Women collection is available online at www.sharewithwomen.org. This URL can also be shared with women as a resource they can use to expand their understanding of a variety of womens health topics. Please let me know what you find useful about the Share with Women column, and feel free to give suggestions for improvement. Recommendations for topics are welcome and can be sent to jmwh@acnm.org. The goal is to provide patient education handouts that you want to share with women! Frances E. Likis, CNM, NP, DrPH, FACNM Editor-in-Chief
