Abu Mas'ud 'Uqbah bin 'Amr al-Ansari al-Badri, radiyallahu 'anhu, reported that the Messenger of Allah said:Among

the things that people have found from the words of the previous prophets was: 'If you have no Haya, then do as you wish.(Bukhari)

In a Hadith, narrated by Zayd ibn Talha, the Prophet said:"Every deen has an innate character. The character of Islam is modesty."[Mursal Form - 5090] Maalik (Mishkat) Narrated Abdullah ibn Umar (ra): The Prophet passed by a man who was admonishing his brother regarding Haya and was saying, "You are very shy, and I am afraid that might harm you." On that, Prophet said, "Leave him, for Haya is (a part) of Faith." (Bukhari) Iman (Faith) consists of more than sixty branches. And Haya (Modesty) is a part of Iman (Faith)." [Vol 1:#8]( Bukhari)

Zaid bin Talha reported that the Prophet said, Haya (Modesty) and Iman (Faith) are companions; when one of them goes out, the other follows it.(al-Hakim) The Holy Prophet has said: "Eyes commit adultery, and their adultery is the lustful glance; hands commit adultery, and their adultery is the use of violence; feet commit adultery, and their adultery is moving towards sin; the adultery of the tongue is (lustful) talk; and the adultery of the heart is the evil desire. In the end, the sexual organs either confirm all this (by their action) or disapprove of it." Son of Adam, your first (unintentional) look is pardonable. But beware that you do not cast a second look." (Al-Jassas) "No man should look at a naked man and no woman should look at a naked woman." (Muslim) "Whatever is above the knee should be covered, and whatever is below the naval should be covered." (Darqutni) "When a woman attains maturity, no part of her body should remain uncovered except her face and her hands up to the wrist joints." (Abu Da'ud) Hazrat Asma, daughter of Abu Bakr, who is the Holy Prophet's sister-in-law, came before him in thin dress that showed her body. The Holy Prophet turned his eyes away and said: "O Asma, when a woman attains maturity, it is not lawful that any part of her body can be seen except this and this" - and then he pointed to his face and palms of his hands. (Takmilah, Fath-al-Qadir) The Holy Prophet said: "Allah has cursed those women who wear clothes and still remained naked." Hazrat 'Umar says, "Do not clothe your women in such clothes that are tight fitting and reveal all the outlines of the body." (Al-Mabsut) The Holy Prophet also said: "If a person peeps into somebody else's house without permission, the people of the house will be justified if they injure his eye." (Muslim)

"Do not call on women in the absence of their husbands because Satan might be circulating in any one of you like blood."(Al-Tirmizi) The Holy Prophet said, "The one who touches the hand of a woman without having a lawful relation to her, will have and ember placed on his palm on the Day of Judgment."(Takmilah, Fath-al-Qadir) O Prophet! Tell your wives and daughters and the believing women, that they should cast their outer garments over their persons: that is most convenient, that they should be known (as such) and not molested. [Surah Al-AhzabV:59] And tell the believing women to lower their gaze (from looking at forbidden things), and protect their private parts (from illegal sexual acts, etc.) and not to show off their adornment except only that which is apparent (like palms of hands or one eye or both eyes for necessity to see the way, or outer dress like veil, gloves, head-cover, apron, etc.), and to draw their veils all over Juyubihinna (i.e. their bodies, faces, necks and bosoms, etc.) and not to reveal their adornment except to their husbands, their fathers, their husband's fathers, their sons, their husband's sons, their brothers or their brother's sons, or their sister's sons, or their (Muslim) women (i.e. their sisters in Islm), or the (female) slaves whom their right hands possess, or old male servants who lack vigour, or small children who have no sense of the shame of sex. And let them not stamp their feet so as to reveal what they hide of their adornment. And all of you beg Allh to forgive you all, O believers, that you may be successful. ( Surah Nur V:31) Another Hadith in praise of modesty quotes the Prophet as saying: Modesty is part of faith, and faith leads to heaven; while vulgarity is part of unfaith, and unfaith leads to hell. (Related by Al-Bukhari in Al-Adab Al-Mufrad, Ibn Majah and Al-Hakim). Narrated by AbuHurayrah, the Prophet (Sal-allahu-aleihi-wassallam) said:"Modesty is part of faith and faith is in Paradise, but obscenity is a part of hardness of heart and hardness of heart is in Hell." [5076] Transmitted by Ahmad, Tirmidhi (Mishkat) Surah An-Nur V 19-21: 19. Verily, those who like that Al-Fahishah should be propagated among those who believe, they will have a painful torment in this world and in the Hereafter. And Allh knows and you know not. 20. And had it not been for the Grace of Allh and His Mercy on you, (Allh would have hastened the punishment upon you). And that Allh is full of kindness, Most Merciful. 21. O you who believe! Follow not the footsteps of Shaitn. And whosoever follows the footsteps of Shaitn, then, verily he commands Al-Fahsh' and Al-Munkar. And had it not been for the Grace of Allh and His Mercy on you, not one of you would ever have been pure from sins. But Allh purifies whom He wills, and Allh is All-Hearer, All-Knower. 'Imran ibn Husayn reported that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "Modesty only brings good." [Agreed upon] In a variant of Muslim, "Modesty is all good." The Prophet (saw) said: "Haya and Trustworthiness will be the first to go from this world; therefore keep asking Allah for them."(Baihaqi)
