1.WAKE UP!
DREAM:IN explores dreams and works towards realizing them. It aims to explore each individual - across age, class and income groups. Here ideas are born. Ideas that are big, original and exciting to many potential stakeholders. An optimistic yet rational demonstration that dreams can be captured and converted into reality. The DREAM:IN 1.0 experience was in Bangalore, India, in January-March 2011, consisting of the DREAM:IN Journey and the DREAM:IN Conclave. Ten days, 101 DreamCatchers, hundreds of places, thousands of dreams... On the 9th and 10th of January, 101 students and young professionals from various fields set out in 11 teams on the first-ever DREAM:IN Journey. They travelled across India by rail and road through cities, towns and villages, into the homes and lives of Indians to learn about and capture dreams of India. DREAM:IN Conclave brought together a diverse group of Indian and international people-of talent, skill and mind. Big dreamers shared their personal vision and their dream for India. Design thinking experts helped channel thoughts and actions. Entrepreneurs lent their mercurial ability to take ideas forward.
DREAM:IN is a global initiative, to leverage global talent for local needs. Jose Carlos Teixeira
Investment experts brought in the reality check and the financial perspective. Corporate leaders helped plan the ideas better. And, creative thinkers helped fructify and express the best ideas. The result was the creation of 51 DreamVenture Ideas.

REALITY CHECK
Our design experts create a compendium of deep, revealing and yet fresh insights about the youth of the nation and a book of dreams that documents patterns, ideas, ventures and even the vision of a Dreamnation. So that many more people can get a headstart in the innovation journey.
Were not just here to dream, but more importantly believe and realize them. Lets avoid just focusing on the ends of the demographic spectrum but create viable And sustainable solutions for everyone to succeed. Its only when everyone can advance And not just those at the ends of the spectrum, then can we truly realize our dream nation. Sonia Manchanda (Director, DREAM:IN)

BOOK OF DREAMS
The DREAM:IN Project is the creation of a set of design thinkers across borders. It is designed to challenge us to create not for peoples needs, but for their dreams. By mapping the dreams of India. By channelling dreams, we free ourselves, it gives us a bigger, grander canvas for new creation. We can imagine big, gamechanging ideas and scenarios for a great, equal future for all our citizens and our countries. And, this can be realised by creating and leveraging networks. The project is an effort to create a growing, qualitative database and a dream-based design thinking method. That can then be available as an open source to conceive ideas.
DREAMING
2. START
The internet is already a place to share private photographs, private videos and random information and to find information and things. The next logical (and yet imaginative) step is for it to become a place for private aspirations and personal transformation. Thats when the potential of the internet will also be fully unlocked, when it begins to create large scale change and value. DREAM:IN will be an online resource of dreams. A resource and an organization that uses social media and the power of networks besides several organized partners and activities to enable people to dream. DREAM:IN will be an outlet for visual, compelling, personal stories and visions of tomorrow. Led by the youth who have had the exposure and have the imagination to see a very different tomorrow, to create networks, to contribute their energy and to work towards making it happen. In the free online space that is dreamin.in, thousands of dreams are being uploaded as a stream of high quality human, personal data. That is open media or a peoples channel. Where only positive aspirations and ideas or dreams are running all the time. Here, anyone can view dreams and then create their free online dream stream. That can be open or even private. Where anyone, anywhere can upload their dream, update their dream, work towards realizing their dream, alone. Or with the world! From their smartphones or their computers. As a 60 second compelling video. With enough examples already there to inspire and to create a sense or urgency. High quality video and sound as content which is personal and deep, compelling and inspiring enough to start any viewer dreaming. Besides which, the dreams will be constantly viewed by partners of DREAM:IN who are from the venture space or the social space and who get a daily feed of new uploads. Stories of realization, of micro enterprise and of social transformation will be delivered to the phones and computers of registered users.
Its always been my dream, may be set up an institution, which can lend money at low interest.

The world is becoming smaller but we can also enable the world to create positive change, whole new systems faster! As reactions and revolutions around the world have shown, people want that change and governments dont know how to give it to them. Young people around the world especially want to create new ventures, new systems, thereby an equal and positive world. This has led to the creation of interesting online systems [Avaaz, Kiva, Kickstarter, Venture for America]. But none that is an open search engine for human imagination. We believe that India is the source of great ideas and the imagination network will be created out of here. To connect to other emerging nations and the developed world. DREAM:IN will create connections both online and on ground. Bringing together enterprise, capital and policy to interpret the open dreams and create visions for tomorrow, available as an open resource online. These open innovation systems will be linked together and their output harvested by design thinking. Available only to registered users, open dreams and ideas; visions (of our cities, of our lives), insights and even venture ideas will be sent as a stream of data. Compelling users (dreamers) to return or better still to believe and to urgently work towards creating a world of our dreams by working towards making individual dreams come true. Or even dream visions. These win win situations will result in bigger and more inclusive personal visions finding the most believers in a system that is designed to make dreams come true. DREAM:IN is committed to connecting to all people equally, to encourage them to dream and create networks and ideas to speed up the process of creating new realities. DREAM:IN is a unique private global venture that leverages design thinking to create new value. With design as the catalyst, connecting social, private and funding organisations to the aspirations of people. DREAM:IN is about a revolutionary, timely and brand new design system delivered though high quality media content, radical thinking systems and path breaking venture and social ideas. Powered by youthful energy, enthusiasm and creativity.

DREAM
In a moving picture of the world, we will ignite peoples imagination, especially that of youth. To get them to wake up and start dreaming. High quality media content will be created, updated and uploaded to create an online social movement with a vital effect. A social networking site with a difference, to upload dreams and realization stories will provide free access from the internet and even from smart phones. In a process that we call Voluntary dreaming. To enable dreaming, invited people trained in the Dreamcatching method and sent to interact with people will create a high quality of content that can be uploaded by the DREAM:IN local team onto the site/ portal. The online content will be available as open source, unless a dreamer has requested otherwise. Each dream will have multiple tags e.g. Social, Venture, Healthcare, Education, Hunger, Community, National etc. Dreams in languages will be subtitled in English. The DREAM:IN team uses multiple online channels to send out a dream a day and over time, a continuous dreamstream will be sent to registered users.
REALISE
The dreamers will have all kinds of support, personal, financial, social to take the journey from dreams to realization. Micro-venture ideas will find investing partners. NGOs will discover social dreams and participate with a clear mechanism to make individual & collective dreams come true. Big venture ideas will be showcased as open source. And Dreamleaders can create teams and then seed funding and mentorship. Dream reports with ideas and insights will be sent regularly to planning bodies and big corporate houses to align them to the new meaning and ideas being created.
BELIEVE
The Imagination Network or a range of people, who make new connections forged for a purpose. Which is to believe in creating new realities. These people will be connected both online and on-ground. And will include young students/ graduates, professionals, creative talent, businessmen, academicians and experts, policy makers, NGOs and organizations and people working on social courses. Coming together to absorb dreams and believe in them. The people who believe in the power of dreaming are registered as paid volunteers and are informed of all activities/ participation opportunities that come up, in various parts of the world. And also get a direct feel of every dream posted. Besides the people who get the feed of dreams, anyone can go online and click believe on a dream. The more people believe in a dream, the higher its rating. And the likelihood of the dream being watched, funded and finding support or partners gets higher.

DREAM:IN
A Youth Journey and a pilot for the DREAM:In Next Generation Enterprise across youth catchments in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra & Kerala, to identify youth enterprise dreams. The intent is to capture 10,000 dreams of which 100 would be shortlisted and shaped into scenarios and plans. On an average it is envisaged that about 75 of these to be ideas/ ventures in the pre-entrepreneur stage, 20 in the budding entrepreneur stage and 5 in the emerging entrepreneur stage. The entire time taken for the journey, selection, short listing, mentoring and the creation of business plan will be a 3 month process culminating in the DREAM:IN Conclave where these ideas and enterprises will be presented to a number of potential investors.
TUMKUR
The DREAM:IN Tumkur project began as the result of three different agendas, streamlining in to one solution - the DREAM:IN Global academic program, the conversation with the National Innovation Council and the conversation with Manipal Foundation about Tumkur. This lead to the start of this prototype of a bottom up developmental model in the district of Tumkur.
34
35
www.dreamin.in
After a successful DREAM:IN journey and conclave in 2011, a plan for scaling up this model was taken to the National Innovation Council in New Delhi. Upon discussion of the plan with Mr. Pitroda and his team, the idea of implementing DREAM:IN on a district level came up. quoting Mr. Pitroda, he said that there are several initiatives across the country that are boiling the water, creating ideas and plans, but no one to actually go forth and take them through to reality. If DREAM:IN were to successfully implement its model on a district level, show successes and implement solutions and ventures, then the National Innovation Council would fund and support similar projects being implemented across the rest of the 639 districts across India. The DREAM:IN Global Academic Program in partnership with the NICC, Bangalore, which provided 13 students for the project telescoped into the DREAM:IN Tumkur project with Manipal Foundation coming in as a key partner. While scoping out a number of possible regions where DREAM:IN could be implemented, Mr Balachandran Warrier, CEO of Manipal Foundation, suggested that Tumkur would be an ideal district to map. The Dream Journey could be undertaken through the 10 taluks of Tumkur district which has strategic potential for 360 degree development because of its proximity to Bangalore. It would be a good beginning to map the district and identify potential social and business ventures. Awareness was spread about the Dream:In Tumkur project across many layers of society and help began coming in from friends in Tumkur the hostel where the students would be put up, transportation, specific contacts in the taluks to enable ease of Dreamcatching on the journey, pointers from influencers in the district, etc. The base was thus laid for a successful Dream Journey, two Dreamscaping sessions and the concluding Dream:In Tumkur Conclave. The SIT MBA Department provided the Dream:In Tumkur project with their auditorium for the Dream:In Conclave on June 05 2012.

Festival Of Dreams 2Nd July, 2011 On Saturday, 2nd July 2011, DREAM:IN hosted the vibrant Festival of Dreams to share DREAM:IN with the neighborhood of Indiranagar to share what they have accomplished and where DREAM:IN is headed in the future. Dreamers from in and around Indiranagar were invited to speak and share their Dreams. Children from the neighbouring school were also invited to participate in the festivities.
Sonia Manchanda, DREAM:IN Director-Design, presented Design for Every Dream from Bangalore at The Global Forum BAWB-Latin America (BAWBGFAL) at a virtual conference held in Brazil. Sonia spoke about Bangalore becoming an innovation hub, the importance of DREAM:IN, the use of design thinking in India today and DREAM:IN DREAM:IN At Bharati Vidyapeeth The Bharati Vidhyapeeth, Pune, evolving from a 1964 vision of Dr Patangrao Kadam to build a complex of educational institutions to bring about social transformation through dynamic education, asked Idiom to initiate a re-branding exercise as the prelude to celebrating its 50 years in education. Bharati Vidyapeeth boasts more than 78 schools and 60 institutions of higher education offering conventional, professional and non-conventional disciplines as a deemed university and in affiliations with State universities. Idiom resorted to its pioneering DREAM:IN Methodology to get a multi-dimensional fix on the Bharati Vidyapeeth culture and parivar. The primary research task involved six Dreamcatchers from Idiom spanning out across eight Bharati Vidyapeeth campuses in Pune, Sangli, Kohlapur and Navi Mumbai, capturing on video the dreams of students, deans, professors and non-teaching staff. The Dreamers on the BV campuses provided snapshots of their experiences with the institution, its traditions and heritage, aspects of pride, deep-rooted values, a series of associative images (animal or bird or color or object) that demonstrated their perception of their institution and, finally, the articulation of their Dreams or aspirations for Bharati Vidyapeeth 50 years in the future. The DreamCatching exercise enabled Idiom to put together a composite picture of a giant educational institution looking to being cutting-edge, contemporary and futuristic in a sampler video to be followed by the creation of dream capsules which will be used to trigger creative approaches that BV can take at a forthcoming Dream Conclave, an intense workshop that will use tools like DreamScaping to shape the future of Bharati Vidyapeeth. 54 55
