BREAD OF LIFE SERIES - PART 3
Jesus said, I AM THE BREAD THAT CAME DOWN FROM HEAVEN. THE BREAD THAT I GIVE IS MY FLESH FOR THE LIFE OF THE WORLD. These words of Jesus in John 6 are supported by the following passages from the New Testament. These same passages also support our Catholic belief in the Eucharistic Jesus. The synoptic gospels are parallel to each other their institution narrative which later became the basis for the prayer of consecration at Mass. While they were eating, he took a loaf of bread, and after blessing it he broke it, gave it to them, and said, Take; this is my body. Then he took a cup, and after giving thanks he gave it to them, and all of them drank from it. He said to them, This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many. Truly I tell you, I will never again drink of the fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God. St. Pauls writings and the Acts of the Apostles also support this Eucharistic belief. Writing the Christians of Corinth (1 Corinthians 11:23-25), he reminded them to conduct themselves properly, especially in the breaking the bread. He said, For I received from the Lord what I also handed on to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night he was betrayed took a loaf of bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, This is my body which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me. In the same way he took the cup also, after supper, saying, This cup is the new covenant of my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me. For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lords death until he comes. And in the Acts of the Apostles (Acts 2:42,46 and 20:7), there are three references to the breaking of bread by early Christians in Jerusalem and St. Pauls visit to Troas.

Baptisms
We welcome into our Catholic faith community the following children, who were baptized in July: Trenton Berry, Joreena Derr, Jake Farnam and Nathan Zook, Jr.
