CONFLICTS IN BCCI

Introduction

As a result of the Indian Premier League (IPL), The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has faced a conflict with all other cricket playing nations who are member of International Cricket Council (ICC). The main point of contention was that signed players should always be available to their country for international tours, even if it overlaps with the IPL season. To address this, the BCCI officially requested that the International Cricket Council (ICC) to institute a time period in the future tours Program, solely for the IPL season. This request was not granted at a subsequent meeting held by the ICC. This was the first conflict created between ICC and BCCI. Second conflict was arisen due to Mr. Lalit Modi and the five cricketers regarding Match fixing controversies in which 5 players were involved which had to face many difficulties and this all led to involvement of some big personalities and this issue became the burning topic for the cricket fans in India and abroad. The Board is responsible for the various illegal activities happening in the field of cricket. The main purpose stands out to be in the eyes of the people that cricket is no more Cricket; it is just the business game which helps people earn lots of money. Since the start of the IPL-1, back in 2008 it's been making news in some or other way. Sometime it is good and most of the time bad. The first controversy started was with the Cheerleaders and many more common and uncommon allegations against it. Now it has back in the news, but that's not for the earlier reasons, but for a new and very complicated reason. Mr. Lalit Modi, the "Former" Chairman and Commissioner of IPL, is been suspended from the chairman of IPL (Indian Premier League) Position just after few hours of the Final game of IPL-3, 2010.

Controversies
On 25 April 2010, the BCCI suspended Lalit Modi, the IPL chairman, for "alleged acts of individual misdemeanors". The suspension notice was served on him by Rajeev Shukla, BCCI vice-president, and N Srinivasan, the board secretary, sending an e-mail to the same effect. Modi was officially barred from participating in the affairs of the Board, the IPL and any other committee of the BCCI. 2012 Indian Premier League spot fixing case was a controversy which arose during 2012 Indian Premier League, leading to ban of five cricketers. It started when a Hindi news channel, India TV, aired a sting operation, which accused 5 players of seeking money in exchange of spot fixing. A life-ban was imposed on Deccan Chargers's TP Sudhindra; five years was imposed on Kings XI Punjab's Shalabh Srivastava; and one year ban on Pune Warriors India's Manish Mishra and Kings XI Punjab's Amit Yadav. Abhinav Bali, who was not in contact with any team for the 2012 season, was banned for a year. In the sting operation, he claimed to fix during 2009 Indian Premier League. According to the sting operation, some of the players revealed that they receive more money from the franchises' owners, then what they are brought for in the players auction; they also said that this money was black money. Manish Mishra who was part of Pune Warriors India team for the season 2011 and 2012, admitted to have said that franchises pay black money, in a sting operation. Mishra was caught on tape saying that franchisees paid them black money and that he had received 1.5 Crore (US$271,500) from the later, among which 1.2 Crore (US$217,200) was black money. He was also suspended from his team. The sting operation was done by reporters of India TV, who maintained a pose of representatives of various teams. According to the operation, Srivastava revealed that the money they received from the franchises was black money. India TV said that he was ready to fix, however that is only recorded in an audio tape. Bali, who was not in contact with any franchise, claimed to be involved in spot fixing during the 2009 Indian Premier League. Mishra claimed that his franchise, Pune Warriors India, gave him around 1.21.45 Crore Indian rupees.

This was against the BCCI guidelines, as being an uncapped player; Mishra could not receive more than 30 lakh Indian rupees. The strong action to suspend Manish Mishra, Shalabh Srivastava, T P Sudhindra, Amit Yadav and Abhinav Bali was taken after a lengthy tele-conference of top BCCI officials and members of the IPL's Governing Council. The BCCI decided to conduct a preliminary inquiry into the incident by Ravi Sawani, the former chief of the ICC's Anti-Corruption Unit who is now heading the BCCI's newly set-up Anti-Corruption Unit. One of the Indian premier News channels had claimed it had done a sting operation in which many players confessed on hidden camera they get much more than their prescribed auction under the table. According to the channel, its operation also revealed that spot-fixing is not only prevalent in IPL but also that first class matches are fixed and women played an important role in match-fixing. The IPL's Governing Council had sought video footage from the TV channel and is understood to have scrutinized the tapes before taking the decision of suspending the players. (PTI)

Reasons for Suspension of Mr. Modi

There is an amount of Rs.400 Crore, which was gone to some middleman, who are they? Charged against Betting & Laundering of money. Involvement in Match Fixing, Bid Rigging (In Kochi and Pune teams), and Illegal dealings. There were Financial Irregularities, since the bids were given on Companies Name, but there are given to Individuals as Preity Zinta. More stress on Broadcast Deal? As there is been $80 Million been paid by MSM (Multi Screen Media), IPL TV Rights has bagged by the Worlds Sport Group (WSG) for the period of 10 years for an amount of $918 Million and further $108 Million for promotion activity. Where MSM has signed a deal with Sony official broadcasting to telecast the live matches.

What these all as resulted in?

Simple answer, Income Tax check. There was Income Tax raids on all the offices involved with IPL, including all franchise owner books (even the Kochi and Pune teams) and said to be found unaccounted money, the figure is yet to be announced publicly. The BCCI has suspended Lalit Modi and appointed Chirayu Amin as an Interim Chairman. Further they said that Important documents are gone missing from the IPL as well as BCCI offices. Now lots of question comes.

Conclusion:
There are definitely some truly vital points. Let us have a look at some of the things which should be taken into consideration. BCCI should de-link itself from the IPL management board that should ideally consist of deserving people who have served the game of cricket and have been its true torch bearers. They are apparently more qualified to run the show. Moreover, it will also take care of the issue relating to the conflict of interest. Politicians should not hold prominent positions in sports federations. BCCI and IPL should be brought under RTI (Right to Information) Act in order to bring in more transparency. From our point of view, all the above mentioned points are very significant and should be immediately paid attention to. IPL has been in the news for the wrongs reasons and is currently being debated on all the major national news networks for reasons other than Cricket. It's high time everyone introspected and stood for the integrity and purity of the game of cricket. I would not like to over-react by saying that IPL should be banned; however, itll only be fair to take a stock and analyze where this entire thing is heading. Is it entertainment in the form of the game of cricket as we would like to visualize it? Or has it taken a different route where Cricket is being used to promote Vanity fairs, circulation of black money and satisfying egos of bigwigs involved. We personally get really alarmed just to think about where we are heading in terms of our countrys culture we have been so proud of. Havent we kept morality at the back seat and jumped into a world of conformity?

Having said that, we must declare that we have enjoyed IPL T20 games for the kind of thrill, excitement and punch it has brought to the game of cricket and would like it to continue entertaining us. Yet, theres an air about it which is disturbing and dilutes the excitement at the same time. And we think it is a collective responsibility of everyone from the authorities, players to all the cricket lovers to contribute to make it better so that it continues to awe us and become exemplary for other such sport leagues across the world. To top it all, a transparent regulation mechanism is the need of the hour.

Solution
Identify the conflict areas. Players were involved in match fixing. Cheer leaders were used in the games. Betting taking place in the games. Black money coming into picture.

What type of the conflict?

Conflict of interest Instrumental relationship

Were there chances of avoiding the conflict?

Players should be paid sufficiently Should not use girls as the cheer leaders when opposed by the people. Should have proper checks on each and every transaction and committee must be formed.

Solution with plan B ( other solutions)

All monetary activities of the players should be tracked Should take care of the cheer leader more. Committee should be responsible for every incident
