PREFACE
This Australian standard has been prepared as a guide for designers of forms and for printers, in commerce, in industry, and in government and semi-government departments. It is emphasized that this standard is in no way intended to prevent organizations from expressing individuality in their business stationery. The standard gives recommendations with respect to layout and design and there are appendices giving information to assist form designers and notes on Post Office conditions. It also lists preferred sizes based on the recommendations of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and traditional British sizes. Layout is dealt with in respect of location of fields, providing for such information as heading, addresses, despatch instructions, and the like. Whilst precise dimensions are not given for these fields because requirements of individual users will vary somewhat, it is strongly recommended that they be located in the specified positions to facilitate the work of entering, reading and processing. Recommended forms showing fields for information are illustrated, and these are intended to take into account the increasing mechanization in offices and to facilitate the use of window envelopes complying with Australian Standard P2, Mailing Envelopes. Whilst layouts apply to all commercial forms, the preferred sizes given apply only to forms other than continuous stationery. A separate specification for sizes and other relevant features of continuous stationery is in course of preparation.
