A distribution of text revisions when necessitated will be made to all recipients of the service manual. Turbine reliability is ensured by Personnel who practice good operating and maintenance procedures. It is of vital importance that station personnel, trained or untrained in gas turbine operation, become thoroughly familiar with the information contained in this manual. Prior to turbine operation a sound program of maintenance should be developed and instituted. Adherence to such a program will result in reduced operating costs, fewer outages, and shorter periods of downtime. GAS TURBINE UNITS ‘The package power plant, as furnished for this installation, is comprised of the single-shaft, heavy-duty gas turbine unit driving an synchronous generator, its auxi- liary equipment, required control equipment and those off-base auxiliaries that are essential to overall operation. Basically, the power plant requires only fuel and fuel connections, generator breaker connections and a source of ac power to become operational. Fuel and air are used by the gas turbine unit to produce the shaft horsepower neces- sary to drive certain accessories and ultimately the driven load generator. The turbine unit is composed of an axial-flow comprasser, 2 multi-stage turbine, support systems, combustion system components, and a starting device. Both compressor and It turbine are directly connected with an in- line, single-shaft rotor supported by pres- sure lubricated bearings. The inlet end of the rotor shaft is coupled to an accessory gear having integral shafts that normally drive the hydraulic pump, main lubrication pump, and may drive other system pumps as Tequired for a given installation. ENCLOSURES (COMPARTMENTS) Gas turbine enclosures, referred to in this manual as compartments, are those partitioned areas in which specific components of the overall power plant are contained. These compartments are built for all-weather conditions and designed for accessibility when performing maintenance. They are provided with thermal and acoustical insulation and lighted for convenience. Compartment construction includes re- movable panels, hinged doors, and a thermally insulated roof section with welded frame structuring providing the support for these parts. The panels are thermally insulated and held in place with bolts. Doors are kept tightly closed by sturdy latches. Gaskets between panels and feaming maintain a weather-tight condition. Inspection and maintenance are facilitated as the door panels allow easy access for station personnel and the removable panels provide greater accessibility for major inspections and servicing. At this installation, lagged compart ments are provided ‘and enclose accessory components, the gas turbine unit, the load gear, the driven generator, and the generator auxiliaries and switehgear. The in-line sequence of compartments is broken by an inlet plenum between the accessory and turbine compartments and an exhaust plenum located between the turbine and generator compartments. oT Walkways, having access ladders and removable grating panels, are placed on each side of the power plant extending from the control enclosure to the exhaust plenum. The air inlet ducting to the compressor interrupts the otherwise continuous run of the walkway along both sides of the gas turbine. USING THE SERVICE MANUAL Performance ratings and operating para- meters are reflected in the Equipment Data Summary which follows this Introduction. In addition, it ineludes the Device Summary which ‘lists components by symbol designation and provides settings and ratings. Each volume of the manual contains its own respective table of contents listing the subject text included within. A brief general description of the subject matter included in each volume follows: Volume I GAS TURBINE - describes the flange-to~ flange gas turbine plus drive coupling, air inlet equipment and exhaust. TURBINE SUPPORT SYSTEMS - includes a funetional description of each support system together with appropriate component servicing information. A system schematic diagram may be included as an aid in understanding the system funetions and their contribution to overall turbine operation. STATION AUXILIARIES AND SERVICES = includes a description of power distribution components and electrical auxiliaries. CONTROL AND PROTECTION sys- TEMS - details the manner in which the CRerl. es /on Volume I (Continued) OPERATION - provides operator instruc~ tions for turbine startup and shutdown. It also includes troubleshooting inform- ation and functions of operating controls, Volume IT CONTROL PANELS AND DEVICES - consists of the solid — state SPEEDTRONIC and electronic control system components which provide the analog and digital signals required to control and protect the operation of the gas turbine. | SPEEDTRONIC panel operation is described in detail. Volume I INSPECTION AND MAINTENANCE - defines scheduled periodic inspections for specific systems; with suggested time intervals. The primary flange-to- flange inspections covered in this section include: combustion inspection, hot gas path inspection, and major inspection less rotor removal and subsequent reassembly. REFERENCE DRAWINGS - as used in the operation, maintenance, and align- ment of the gas turbine are included here. These drawings may be referenced in other areas of this manual. Volume tv PARTS LISTS AND DRAWINGS VOLUME - an integral volume of the total manual which enables turbine operators to make the correct selection of replacement parts, to their proper identification.
