Course Description
This five day course will provide an intensive overview of the API 650 Welded Steel Tanks for Oil Storage. API 650 covers material, design, fabrication, erection, and testing requirements for aboveground, vertical, cylindrical, closed- and open-top, welded steel storage tanks in various sizes and capacities. This course is designed to give the participants a thorough understanding of API 650 Above ground storage tank code. Its practical use is illustrated with numerous case studies. It offers detailed insight pertaining to design, manufacture and inspection of the various storage tanks (Cone roof, Dome roof and Floating roof Tanks) typically used in Petroleum Industries, Refineries, Petrochemical plants etc. The course emphasizes understanding of stated and implied requirements (i.e. content and intent) of the code. It will clarify basic intentions of all code, how to interpret code and thus, build-up the confidence among the participants for taking decisions

This course is designed for petroleum industry personnel, suppliers, or subcontractors responsible for the design, construction, inspection, maintenance, regulatory compliance, or operation of API above ground storage tanks. Course Objectives
n Understand the meanings of different technical terms used in API 650 n Be able to choose the correct materials and specify material testing requirements n Carry out Design of tank bottom, shell, roof and the appurtenances n Design of Tank Shell Nozzles, Roof Opening, Cleanout openings n Design of Tank Sumps n Design of Tanks for Wind loads n Use correct fabrication and welding including do and dont in tank erection. n Know the correct methods of tank inspection, n How to Carry out the correct NDE for intended inspection, n Conducting dimensional inspection for fabrication tolerances. n Carry out Tank testing Hydro, Pneumatic, Vacuum box tests etc. n Certification of tank storage capacities.

About the Instructor

Mr. Chintamani M. Khade API 653 Authorized Tank Inspector. Cert. No. 27295. ASNT Level III (ASNT) :UT, MT, RT, PT, VT, LT & ET. Cert No 126348. Welding Inspector (TWI) CSWIP 3.1 Cert No. 5197. Mr. Khade is a Mechanical Engineer, with more than 20 years experience in Design, Detailing, Fabrication, Field erection, Testing and certification of Storage Tanks. He has handled all types of tanks including Fixed Cone roof and Dome roof Tanks; Floating roof Tanks (Pontoon type, Double Deck Type; Internal Floating roof Tanks); Geodesic Roof Tanks etc. He has carried out Inspection and integrity assessment of in-service tanks including repairs and replacement of tanks as per API 653. He worked on Tank projects in India, Middle East & Africa. He carried out NDT, Ultrasonic thickness gauging, flaw detection, vacuum box leak testing, & advanced inspection like tank bottom scanning by Magnetic flux leakage Testing of existing tanks. He worked as API inspector & project coordinator for Qatar Fuel Additives Co. (QAFAC), Massaid, Qatar, and executed in service tank inspection as per API 653 including Acoustic emission testing of tank bottoms for corrosion assessment on entire Tank farm having various services & designs. He has Conducted several training courses in Storage Tanks as per API 650, API 653, and NDT in South-East Asia and Gulf countries.
