Yes, This Class Features Pre-Recorded Lectures and Tegrity Demos!

Demos of our weekly asana postures are located under the Tegrity Demos tab on our Blackboard course menu. Take the time to watch/listen online before you begin your practice. A handout of each sequence is located under the Asana Practice folder (in Course Materials). To access the Tegrity Demos, use Internet Explorer as your web browser and remove your Pop-Up Blocker. If you run into any issues with Tegrity, contact the Help Desk. Here is the contact information for the Help Desk: 928.776.2168 (Prescott), 928.649.5558 (Verde), or email HelpDesk yc.edu.

Your Yoga Practice On the Mat

On the mat:
Video demonstrations of posture (asana) sequences are on Blackboard so that you may try new posture sequences on your own each week. Most weeks feature at least two posture practices for you to choose from, one geared more toward a beginner and the other for the more experienced

yogi/yogini.

To see video recorded demonstrations of the weeks Asana Practice, click on the Tegrity Demos tab. For a handout (with photographs) of the posture sequence, click on the Course Materials tab, then into the weekly folder, and Asana Sequence.

I will be happy to provide you individualized assistance on particular yoga postures and sequences that might be of value to you. The sequences and postures that I offer each week are merely suggestions; the intention of this class is to tailor postures to your needs and goals.
To earn up to 15 points for your yoga practice on the mat, submit your Asana Practice Summary for the week. Youll find a link to submit this assignment under the Asana Practice folder each week. Your task in this assessment: outline the sequence of poses that you practiced at least three times during the week and describe any challenges that you encountered (e.g., resistance, procrastination, stress, self-criticism, comparison, etc.) Important Note: Just as if you were practicing with a DVD at home, it is imperative that you listen to your body. Do not push yourself beyond your edge, or physical capabilities. Note that the first weeks assignments include a Health History summary, so that you may communicate to me any physical challenges or limitations that you may currently experience. This will enable me to suggest alternative sequences for you as well.

Your Yoga Practice Off the Mat

Off the mat:
One of the major takeaways of our class is that yoga isnt really about the postures and stretching exercises, but rather, learning a whole series of techniques, strategies and philosophies to enhance the quality of your life. Path of Yoga differs from other yoga classes in that it focuses extensively on the philosophy of yoga, including the cultivation of practices that will benefit your relationships (with self and others), breath work to calm the mind, strategies of mindfulness, and an introduction to meditation. We will also delve into the science of Ayurveda (eating according to your body type for optimum health) and the major traditions of yoga including Raja Yoga, Karma Yoga, Bhakti Yoga and Jhana Yoga. Click on Course Materials and into each folder to see point-worthy activities related to our weekly yoga topics. In these assignments, you may earn up to 15 points for creating a journal entry or other activity related to the weeks topic. (This is in addition to the 15 points you may earn for your weekly Asana Practice.) Alternatively, you may make notes on your regular yoga practice on and off the mat -- and submit a 750-word monthly synopsis (roughly three typed pages) in three installments. The Monthly Journal Synopsis is due at the end of each month and worth 75 points. In your Monthly Journal Synopsis, you will reflect on the months topics and summarize any challenges, breakthroughs and/or insights experienced in your yoga philosophy and posture practices for the month. Our course activities will be practiced and experienced by you, sometimes on the mat, sometimes off the mat. The extent to which you incorporate your yoga practice into your life is entirely up to you. The intention of this course and my sincerest hope -- is to inspire you to create your own home yoga practice, however you define it, this semester and beyond!
