Abstract: This paper is intended to give an overview about a new data storage technique using biodegradable materials like paper or plastic sheets etc. Using this technology data can be stored on these bio-degradable materials usi9ng different geometrical shapes such as triangles, circles and squares using different colors and their color combinations. This paper is not a complete comprehensive, all inclusive, description, which is pointless anyway as the technology continues to develop. This technology is known as rainbow technology and in upcoming days the large amount of data can be stored using this technology and the rainbow cards which are developed due to this technology can store a data of 10GB on just a size of sim card. In this paper we also discuss about the devices to read these rainbow technology made data storage devices and the future scope of this technology and we also introduce some audio players which use rainbow cards and used in as players for TV etc.

1. INTRODUCTION: Now-a-days data storage has been achieved to a larger extent, we use hard disk for large storage of data. Portable devices like CDs and DVDs cant store the data greater than 8.5GB. To store large amount of data on portable devices has been achieved by the Blue-Ray Disks, but the cost of manufacture of these disks matters a lot. But in this paper we present about a new type of data storage technique using my biodegradable materials like a paper. This technology is called Rainbow Technology. 2. MECHANISM OF STORING THE DATA: The Technology in this paper is useful in storing compressed digital information on a regular sheet of paper. Rainbow Technology, can store between 90 and 450 GB on a single sheet of paper. The system allegedly works by encoding data into small geometrical shapes (circles, squares, and triangles) in various colors, then printing them out on a piece of paper. A scanner is used to read the data back in to the computer. This storage method is more environmentally friendly due to the biodegradable nature of paper, and envisions magazine publishers printing tear-out sheets of paper containing demos and programs, replacing the traditional plastic-wrapped CD or DVD. In olden days some of the multi speciality hospitals used to give cards which can store a data of 120 bytes with 80 columns of punched holes on it. Printing at 1,200 dots per inch (DPI) leads to a theoretical maximum of 1,440,000 colored dots per square inch. If a scanner can reliably distinguish between 256 unique colors (thus encoding one byte per dot), the maximum possible storage is approximately 140 megabytes for a sheet of A4 papermuch lower when the necessary error correction is employed. If the scanner were able to accurately distinguish between 16,777,216 colors (24 bits, or 3 bytes per dot), the capacity would triple, but it still falls well below the media stories' claims of several hundred gigabytes. At least one of three things must be true for the claim to be valid:

The paper must be printed and scanned at a much higher resolution than 1,200 DPI, the printer and scanner must be able to accurately produce and distinguish between an extraordinary number of distinct color values, or the compression scheme must be a revolutionary lossless compression algorithm.

If Rainbow's "geometric" algorithm is to be encoded and decoded by a computer, it would equally viable to store the compressed data on a conventional disk rather than printing it to paper. Printing something as dots on a page rather than bits on a disk will not change the underlying compression ratio, so a lossless compression algorithm that could store 250 gigabytes within a few hundred megabytes of data would be revolutionary indeed. Likewise, data can be compressed with any algorithm and subsequently printed to paper as colored dots. The amount of data that can be reliably stored in this way is limited by the printer and scanner. There are two types of portable devices using this technology those are rainbow versatile disks and rainbow cards. And these rainbow cards are of the size of our SIM card. 3. DEVICE USED TO RETRIEVE THE DATA FROM THESE DATA STORAGE DEVICES: A scanner type of device is used to retrieve the data from these biodegradable data

storage devices. But to read the data from the rainbow card, as it is in the size of a sim card, we should design the scanners which can be embedded into our laptops or mobiles. Basic Image Scanner gives its output image in a RGB color format but here the image is being stored in the rainbow format which is converted to bits of information which can be understood by our computers 4. ADVANTAGES: This upcoming technology has solved the problem of low speed and high cost i.e. as the material used for the manufacture of the rainbow products is very low. The material used in CDs and DVDs costs very high and we obtain these CDs and DVDs at a cost of 10 to 20 rupees but if mass production of rainbow cards is done then we can store a data of 5 to 10 GB at a cost of just 0.50 rupees. By using this rainbow technology we can reduce the e-waste pollution. Files in any format can be stored. 5. CONCLUSION: This technology establishes an eco-friendly data storage technique which helps in reducing the pollution on earth. These disks are of low cost and high speed and can store a large amount of data than CDs and DVDs. The Rainbow cards are small in size which makes it portable, as it occupies less space than the conventional storage devices. 6.
