Washing Machine Maintenance

When you do your laundry, your washer develops build up that needs to be removed. Believe it or not, your washing machine
requires it’s own regular wash and care to extend its life and keep it’s washing power top notch.

Doesn’t matter if you have a top or front loading machine. They all should have regular care every two to three months.

Maintenance care how-to:

Remove everything from your washer.
Run hot water up to the highest setting your washer offers. You may want to raise the tem-
perature of your water heater to ensure very hot water, and remember to turn it back down
when you are done.
When the washer is full, add 3 cups of distilled white vinegar or two cups of lemon juice, and
½ cup of baking soda.
Let your washer go on it’s cycle until the water starts to drain and then put it through a spin
cycle as the water is draining. This allows any residue that has been loosened to come loose
and be washed away.
Once completed, remove any residue that you may see on the inside.
Run a cold cycle on the highest agitation (what you would use for your dirtiest loads).
Wash the external parts – the tubs that hold bleach and fabric softener often have some sort
of build up and collect dirt and grime as it falls from dirty clothes thrown in the machine over
them. Also wipe a rag over the top of the inner tub, a part that won’t be cleaned thoroughly
by doing your washer maintenance but over time collects grime.
