Universal Battery Charger

Thank you for purchasing the RadioShack Universal Battery Charger. You can fully charge up to five different sizes of batteries, including AAA, AA, C, D and 9V, and both Ni-Cd (nickel-cadmium) and Ni-MH (nickel-Metal Hydride) batteries with different capacities in different chambers. Its multiple charging circuits allow you to charge up to two 9V, up to eight AAA/AA, or up to four C/D batteries. The special automatic shut-off circuit senses when batteries are fully charged, and automatically terminates charging. The chargers reverse polarity protection prevents damage to your batteries, as well as the charger when batteries are installed incorrectly.

Charging / Discharging Batteries


Note: If the red indicator(s) flash(es) during the following steps, at least one of the batteries is bad and needs to be replaced. 1. Press OPEN to open the cover. 2. Insert up to four pair of AAA / AA or up to four C / D batteries into the battery chamber as indicated by the polarity symbols (+ and -) marked inside each chamber. To insert a 9-volt battery, connect it to the terminals inside the chamber. 3. Plug the supplied adapters barrel plug into the jack on the back of the charger, and then plug the adapter into a standard AC outlet. 4. To discharge AAA / AA or C / D batteries, press REFRESH once. The green indicator lights. When the batteries are fully discharged, the green indicator turns off and the red charging indicator (or indicators) light. A charging indicator lights for each chamber containing battery. When AAA, AA, C, or D batteries are fully charged, The charging indicator turns off. This is the end of the charging cycle. 5. To charge a 9V battery, insert it into one of the terminals inside either chamber. To charge a second 9V battery at the same time, insert it into the remaining terminal. 6. When you finish, unplug the adapter from the AC outlet, then remove the batteries from the charger. Notes: You can charge / discharge up to four pair of AAA / AA or up to four C / D batteries while the 9-volt battery charges are empty. You can charge / discharge different types of batteries (AA and D, for example) in the different chambers, as long as the battery (or batteries) in each chamber are the same type and same size. You can charge a 9V battery in one chamber and charge another size battery in the remaining chambers at the same time You cannot discharge 9-volt batteries. You cannot insert one AA and one AAA battery into the same battery compartment. If you charge two 9-volt batteries, you cannot charge any AA / AAA batteries at the same time, if you charge one 9-volt battery, you can charge up to four AA / AAA batteries or up to two C / D in the other chambers. You cannot charge AA / AAA batteries with the C / D batteries connector. The 9V charging channel has no automatic turn off feature. Be sure you do not exceed the times listed in Charge Time, or the batteries capacity could be reduced.

Charging Hints
It is normal for the batteries to become warm while charging. Charge batteries in an area between 32o and 109oF (0o and 43 oC). If the area is too warm, the batteries can lose their ability to charge. Do not try to charge batteries other than those listed in this manual, or use procedures other than those described in this manual.
