ABOUT THE SPEAKERS

Professor Tapan Kumar Ghoshal is presently a Hon Emeritus Professor of the Electrical Engineering Department, Jadavpur University. He received his B. E. E. (1966) and M. E. E. (1968) both from the Jadavpur University, followed by Ph. D (Engg.) in Flight Control from Cranfield, UK in 1976. Since 1967, he served as a faculty at the Electrical Engineering Department, Jadavpur University and later he as a Professor and Head in the same department. Since the inception of the School of Education Technology (JU) in 1987, he served as the Jt Coordinator till June 2005. He also, served as the Coordinator of the Centre for Knowledge Based Systems (JU) till June 2005 and as a Member Advisory Committee, India Science Lab (General Motors R&D) since December 2007. He has a 42 year long Teaching and Research career a major part of which was devoted to Consultancy of missile and aircraft control systems. His major research interests are Control Systems, Aerospace, Real Time Software Engineering, Software QA, IV&V. He has received many awards and honours such as Commonwealth Fellowship in UK (1973-1976), Corps of Engineers Medal 1998 and Certificate of Merit, 1980, 1996 awarded by IE (India) for research Publication, Academic Excellence Award of Defence Research & Development Organisation 1998 for contribution in the Guidance of PRITHVI & NAG Missiles etc. He has about 40 Journal Research Papers and 50 Technical Reports.

Dr. Radhakant Padhi is an Associate Professor in the Department of Aerospace engineering, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. He received his Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering from University College of Engineering, Burla, Orissa in 1994, followed by Master of Engineering in Aerospace Engineering from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore in 1996. He earned his Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering from Missouri University of Science and Technology Rolla (formerly University of Missouri Rolla), USA in 2001 and was a postdoctoral fellow in the same university for two years. In Dec 2003, he joined Indian Institute of Science as an Assistant professor and subsequently promoted to Associate professor in Dec 2009. Dr. Padhi has also served as a scientist at RCI (DRDO), Hyderabad during 1996-1997. Dr. Padhis research interests are in the broad area of systems theory and applications. Specifically, he is interested in optimization and optimal control, distributed parameter systems, neural networks, control and guidance of aerospace vehicles and application of control theory in biomedical systems. He has more than 130 publications in international journals and conferences. He has received many awards and honours for his valuable research contributions.

SCOPE OF THE WORKSHOP

Industries, in the present day, need be operated at the highest possible efficiency to ensure precision and quality of its products for accurate control in different applications. The aim of this workshop is to provide an overview of various techniques available in the area of control theory. The workshop will cover an overview of the basics and advanced topics of control theory and cover the areas of optimal control, static optimization, nonlinear control etc. This will help the participants in updating continuously their knowledge and skills in the areas mentioned.
