REPORT ON THE BABY BOY BORN WITH A QUR'AN 1.

0 Preamble All praise is due to Allah the Lord of the Universe. May His peace and blessings be upon Prophet Muhammad (peace be on him), members of his house-hold, companions and all the faithful ones who believe in his teachings and invite to the part of Islam until the Day of Witness. 2.0 Introduction 2.1 The controversy generated following the birth of baby AbdulWahab Irawo, who was alleged to have been born with a miniature Qur'an led us to investigate the incident in order to verify, validate and confirm the whole saga. The Investigation Team comprised Sheikh AbdurRahman Ahmad - Chief Imam/National Missioner, Ansar Ud Deen Society of Nigeria; Sheikh Dhikrullahi Shafi' - Mufty, Conference of Islamic Organisations (CIO); Sheikh AbdurRahman Adangba - National Missioner, Fatheehul Quareeb Society of Nigeria; Ustadh Tirmidhi Muhammad Jamiu - Imam, TMC Dawah Centre/Mosque, Lagos and Sheikh Shehu AbdulMajeed - Chief Imam/Missioner, Nawair-Ud-Deen Society, Lagos State. Others included Ustadh Ismail Yusuf - Preacher, Lagos Mainland Central Mosque; Mallam Qasim Badrudeen - Amir, Muslim Students Society of Nigeria (MSSN), Lagos Area Unit; Sheikh AbdulMajeed Imran Eleha - Chief Imam, Darul Na'im Central Mosque, Alimosho, Lagos and Imam Abdullahi Shuaib - Coordinator, CIO and Executive Director, Zakat and Sadaqat Foundation, Nigeria. 2.2 At the onset, it should be mentioned that this report is not meant to attack any person(s) or to condemn the positions adopted by some protagonists or antagonists of the incident. Rather, it intends to dig as much as possible information, facts and pieces of evidence that would unravel the mystery surrounding the incident. We are more concerned about the Maslahah (Setting the incident right) for the benefit of the Ummah; which in our opinion, is the Irshad (guidance) of the Community, hence our intervention from the second day of the birth of the baby till date. 2.3 We will try not to be too academic in our report but pontificate as direct participants in the issue of the birth of the baby. 3.0 Birth of the baby boy with Qur'an 3.1 Permit us to crave your indulgence to avoid the details of the various information and publications carried by both electronic and print media regarding the birth of the baby and the Qur'an in this report. As you are all aware, the baby was born on Monday, 30th April, 2012. Immediately after his birth, the news of the baby born with a mini-Qur'an filtered into the Community and the following day, we set out on a fact-findingmission with the following questions in our minds: 3.1.1 To confirm whether the baby was truly born and alive 3.1.2 To investigate the genuineness of the Qur'an 3.1.3 To interview the mother of the baby with a view to confirming from her whether the incident is true or not 3.1.4 And to interview the nurse that took delivery of the baby for confirmation 4.0 Investigations and Methods Used

4.1 In our quest to find answers to the aforementioned questions, we adopted a qualitative approach and the method used involved observation of the baby, the Qur'an, discussions with the baby's mother, the grandmother and the nurse that took delivery of the baby among others. 4.2 To achieve this, we interviewed the individuals (mentioned in section 4.1 above) including the father of the baby, their neighbours, and some Muslim clerics in their neighbourhood using semi-structured questionnaires. At a point, we also used a stakeholder focus group discussion to allay the fears of the Ummah that it was not a heresy; and at the same time to extract information which points to the direction of the claim that the baby was born with the Qur'an. A case study strategy was adopted, using 5 in-depth interviews, 7 observations and over 10 case study documents (some of which Professor Ishaq Akintola published on muslimrights@yahoogroups.com dated 16th and 23rd May, 2012) to answer the above-mentioned questions. 5.0 Findings 5.1 While it should be mentioned that investigation and observation on the subject matter is still open for exploration and further study, our findings include but are not limited to the following: 5.1.1 It is true that the baby was born and he is alive (See attached appendix 1). 5.1.2 It is also true that there is a miniature Qur'an that allegedly accompanied the baby at birth. It was laminated with a transparent white nylon made of a tough texture. It consists of Chapters 1 to 6 only (See attached appendix 2). 5.1.3 Several public and privately arranged interviews were conducted for the mother of the baby, his grandmother, the father and the nurse that took the delivery of the baby. There was consistency in the information supplied by the interviewees (See attached appendix 3). 5.1.4 We unveiled the miniature Qur'an on Saturday, 5th May, 2012 in the presence of the Chief Imam of Lagos with the parents of the baby in attendance at the residence of the Chief Imam of Lagos. 5.1.5 The following day, Sunday, 6th May, 2012 at the residence of the grandmother, we admonished the family (including the mother of the baby and her brother, father of the baby and grandmother of the baby) and they were reverted to Islam. 5.1.6 We also discovered some stains on the right palm of the baby which looked very much like a mark indicating that the baby had been holding an object for a long time. While we restrained ourselves from jumping into conclusion that the sign was as a result of the Qur'an that the baby held, there was and still no contrary evidence to show that it was not. 5.1.7 On Monday, 7th May, 2012, the naming ceremony of the baby was held with prominent Muslim clerics and scholars in attendance. We were also in attendance and anchored the ceremony. 6.0 CONTENTIOUS ISSUES 6.1 While we do not intend to join issues with anybody, we want to thank and show appreciation to all those who have added their voice to the baby-born-with-Qur'an incident from whichever side of the divide they belong to. Allah knows best. We believe our goal is one and the intention is the same, namely, to promote and propagate Islam in its true spirit and

form. We pray Allah preserves our Iman - (Faith) and Deen - (Religion). May He exalt Islam and the Muslims all over the world. 6.2 The following issues also drew our attention and we will attempt to bring to focus questions that are being raised on this issue while we provide responses for such questions: 6.2.1 Expansion of the Miniature Qur'an There was a claim that the Qur'an was expanding at the initial stage. However, what we found out was that after it was unveiled, due to the airpressure released from the lamination and the compression, it was possible that it looked as if it has enlarged on its own even though its size did not change. A non-living object does not grow in size beyond its original form and this particular miniature Qur'an IS NOT EXPANDING. 6.2.2 Is it possible to desecrate the Qur'an with blood, urine and placenta of Kafir (Unbeliever)? Our answer is NO. It is not possible to do that. Allah has a way of protecting and preserving His Ultimate Miracle (Qur'an 15:9). 6.2.2.1 As mentioned in section 5.1.2, it was not a full Mushaf (Qur'an) and secondly, it was water-proof such that faeces, urine or blood could not have direct contact with it how much more desecrating it. This is a form of protection. Allah knows best (See attached appendix 4). 6.2.2.2 We recall the case of baby Ali born with some verses of the Qur'an on his body in Krasno-Oktyabrsk village of Kizlyar region in Dagestan, Russia (See attached appendix 5). Different verses of the Qur'an appeared on his body (legs) mostly on Mondays and Thursdays according to his parents. 6.2.2.3 In addition, there was an earlier similar case in Maiduguri, Bornu State, Nigeria in 2004/5 which involved a Calabar girl, a Kaafirat (Unbeliever) at the University of Maiduguri (Unimaid) with different verses of the Qur'an appearing below her abdomen. She eventually reverted to Islam, got married to a Muslim and was blessed with children. We got this information from Doctor AbdulMujeeb Isa who did his MBBS in Unimaid. According to Doctor Isa, very elderly Kanuri Hufaaz (Memorizers of the whole Qur'an) investigated, verified and confirmed the story. Doctor Isa resides in Lagos now and he can be reached for further cross-examination. 6.2.2.4 The fact is that these human beings were born naturally without any operation. That is, they were conceived in their mother's wombs, went through the stages of child-birth with all the stuff of faeces, urine and blood. The ways of Allah are not the ways of man. Allah has a way of protecting the verses of the Qur'an from having direct contact with these impurities. 6.2.3 Can we believe a child born by a Kafir (Unbeliever), a product of Zina coming with a Qur'an? First and foremost, the baby boy is sinless and pure. This view is in tandem with the prophetic statement that every child is a potential Muslim and born pure. Their faith in life is determined by their parents either to become a Christian or a Jew. 6.2.3.1 Historical antecedents have shown that some of the prophets and

messengers of Allah were born by pagan parents. It is also incontrovertible that these prophets/messengers proclaimed the words of Allah from their childhood to adulthood. For example, Prophet Ibrahim (peace be on him) was born by a staunch pagan and an open enemy of Allah. 6.2.4 Is it medically or scientifically possible to give birth to a baby with Qur'an? Some medical doctors have equally voiced out that it is medically impossible. Therefore, it is a hoax. Others said, metaphysically, it is possible. Their evidence was hinged on the fact that even if the mother of the baby was alleged to have swallowed the mini-Qur'an (which was not possible because of its size), medically, there is no direct connection between the reproductive organ and the digestive system of human beings. 6.2.4.1 Our opinion is that nothing is impossible with Allah while we may not rule out the possibility of fabrication or a hoax on the part of mischievous people. However, our finding reveals that medically, it is not every time or on every phenomenon that medical doctors or scientists can explain logically strange events within the framework of their profession. Allah alone has the exclusive rights to create whatever He wishes and chooses at any time and place (Q28:68). 6.2.4.2 We found interesting the reported case on Monday 2nd April, 2012 of a baby girl born with no blood in Broomfield Hospital, in Chelmsford, UK. She was named miracle baby Olivia Norton who was given less than two hours to live but survived thanks to emergency transfusions which transformed her into a glowing healthy pink colour after she was born with haemoglobin levels of only three out of a normal level of 18 that could not be classed as blood (See attached appendix 6). 6.2.4.3 One of the neonatal nurses Sharon Pilgrim asserted that in 20 years of her job, she had never heard of such low haemoglobin levels. She went further to say: "It was a miracle she survived. There was no sign of blood loss prior to the caesarean or during the operation. It was only when we carried out further tests on Louise (baby's mother) that we discovered the baby had lost blood directly into her mummy's blood. Doctors still don't know why it happened. It is one of those freak things." The baby whose condition was so rare would feature in medical text books in UK (Source: SWNS). 6.2.4.4 From the aforementioned case of baby Olivia whose doctors could not explain her condition and how she survived beyond the two hours speculated, it shows that it is not every time that science or medical experts could unravel some phenomena that are beyond ordinary human comprehension. 7.0 Advice 7.1 In view of the aforementioned, we unequivocally reiterate our stand that the baby is just a mortal like any Muslim. He is not an anointed prophet or messenger of Allah or Waliyy - (Saint) (Q33:40). 7.2 The alleged Qur'an brought by the baby is not a new revelation whatsoever because the door of revelation has been closed and perfected by Allah through Prophet Muhammad (peace be on him) (Q33:40 and Q20:1- 4).

7.3 We may be tempted to classify the incident under Shubhaah (Doubtful things) simply because many amongst the Muslims could not reconcile the fact that the only living witnesses were the nurses (Kaafirah) - that took delivery of the baby. On a second thought, the principle of Shubhah may not be applied here because the onus is on those who could not reconcile the incident to come up with evidence(s) that the witnesses fabricated the incident. 7.4 Baby AbdulWahab is not an object of worship or a deity to be revered by anybody. To do that will amount to ascribing partnership with Allah (Q4: 116). 7.5 As a Community, we have an obligation to assist the mother of the baby, the grandmother and the baby to sustain their faith, religious and secular education and constancy in their daily worship of Allah. 7.6 There should be an organised donation towards the upbringing and most importantly, the education and welfare of the baby and by extension, both his mother and grandmother such that whatever donations received would not become a source of fitnah (trial) for the family (Q64:15-16). 8.0 Appreciation 8.1 We avail ourselves of this opportunity via this medium to express appreciation to all those who took part in the management of the incident from the beginning till date. Also appreciated are donors like Prince AbdulJabbar Bola Ajibola, proprietor of Crescent University, who gave the baby a full scholarship up-to the tertiary institution with additional One Million Naira (N1,000,000.00); Alhaja (Chief) Toyibat Adeniji of Toyyibat Schools, who offered the baby full scholarship from primary level to secondary level; Dr. Abdul-Lateef Adegbite, the Seriki/Baba Adini of Egbaland & Secretary-General, Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, who also visited the family and donated Twenty-five Thousand Naira (N25, 000.00) for the upkeep of the baby; Sheikh Ishaq Tejidini, Chief Imam of Rahmatullahi Islamiyyah Society of Nigeria, who presented over Two Hundred and fifty Thousand Naira (N250,000.00) as donation from some groups of Islamic Organisations; two members of the Zamfara State Shariah Research and Development Commission who visited us on a fact-finding mission and many others too numerous to mention. 8.2 We acknowledge whatever error(s) that may be noticeable in the report and possible inadequacies that may be observed in the methods adopted to carry out the investigation. 8.3 We pray Allah accept our efforts and yours as acts of Ibadah (worship) and apologise for the delay in making this report available. Abdulrauf Adebayo I have been waiting for such investigation by responsible muslims. Al-hamdullillah. May Allah reward the team with best of rewards. The truth must not be swept under the carpet. July 19 at 11:41am Like

Adedokun O Isma-il You know what? My concern is that the scholars didn't do enough to address the real issue of the essence of Allah's oneness and might. Miracles;historically has never sustain faith but knowledge based conviction. Even if the parents and or the child is given all riches in the world, only proper understanding of pristine dogma of Islam will suffice. July 19 at 12:36pm via mobile Like 2
