Since its conception, this program has grown to offer various activities and initiatives designed to promote a healthy workplace for the City of Kamloops staff. Some successful initiatives made available to City of Kamloops employees include Canadas Healthy Workplace Week, Weight Watchers, nicotine cessation programs, Walk for Wellness, Hearts @ Work Health Program, and many more. A. What Employees Want
1. Employee Interest Survey
Information

What Employees Want

The Employee Interest Survey was developed with adaptations from the British Heart Foundations "Think Fit!" sample questionnaire and "employee assessment" questionnaire. It is designed as an easy to use tool to target employee interests within the scope of a wellness program. The employee survey will be administered on two separate occasions throughout the subscription period: initially to determine the specific needs of the organization and again nearing the end of the subscription period to gauge employee satisfaction with the Wellness Works program. By assessing and addressing the specific need of employees through wellness initiatives, employers can be confident that employees will benefit from the implementation of new programming. Program Description The Employee Interest Survey can be delivered in paper or electronic format. In order to obtain the best possible information on workplace health, this survey should be offered to all employees and is best completed on existing employee work time for optimal response. Completion time for the survey is approximately ten minutes per employee. In order to obtain optimal response rates for the survey, it is important to generate some excitement prior to implementation. The Wellness Coordinator will assist the organization in delivering an "upcoming survey notice" at least one week prior to implementation; in delivering this notice, it is important to state whether an incentive will be provided for participation as this will likely result in a higher response rate. The Wellness Coordinator can assist in the arrangement of an incentive with the employer. If surveys are distributed in paper format, they will be delivered by the Wellness Coordinator at an established time, completed and returned to a sealed envelope that will be returned for analysis. If using electronic format, the survey will be distributed via email and returned to the Wellness Coordinator for analysis. Once the process is complete, please allow two to three weeks for processing. Once the surveys are processed, the Wellness Coordinator will contact the employer to establish a time to review results and make recommendations. Program Includes Employee Interest Survey. Coordination of upcoming survey notice. Implementation of the survey. Analysis of results. Presentation of results and recommendations to employer, also available in electronic format. Coordination of incentive for participation.

1. Walk for Health Pedometer Program
Information Walk for Health is a workplace initiative designed to encourage individuals to become more physically active by promoting a simple modality of action: walking! This program is designed in such a way to encourage individuals to begin to accumulate the minimum recommended 30 minutes of activity per day, as recommended by the US Surgeon General. 30 minutes of physical activity is needed on most days of the week to obtain health benefits; through the use of pedometers and this walking program, employees are challenged to increase their physical activity in a fun and interactive way. Program Description Walk for Health is designed around the use of simple pedometers to track the amount of steps an individual logs per day.
