Help for Your Joints
Rheumatologist Harpinder Ajmani, M.D., will discuss the different types of arthritis, its signs and symptoms, and treatment options. Refreshments will be served. Advance registration required. Free. Sept.12; 2-3:30 p.m.
Diabetes Screening
No fasting is required for this blood draw that will test for HbA1C, glycohemoglobin. The screening is for anyone who wants to know their blood sugar average during the past two-to-three months. Test results will be mailed. Advance registration is required. Fee: $10. Nov. 12; 8-9:30 a.m.
Cholesterol Screening
This screening requires a 12-hour fast and tests for total cholesterol, triglycerides, HDL and LDL levels. Test results will be mailed. Advance registration is required. Fee: $15. Dec. 4; 7-9 a.m.
SCREENINGS
Foot Screening
Podiatrist Hong Suk Yoon, D.P.M., will perform the foot screening and will advise on foot treatments. No prescriptions or treatments will be given at the screening. Participants should wear easy to remove shoes and socks. Advance registration is required. Free. Sept 15; 9 am-Noon
SUPPORT GROUPS
Arthritis Support Group
This free support group provides mutual support and education. Registration is not required. Sept. 27, Oct. 25, Nov. 29, Dec. 27; 1-2:30 p.m.
Osteoporosis Screening
Osteoporosis is a condition that weakens bones to the point of breaking. Symptoms do not occur until a lot of bone strength is lost. Radiology staff will test for risk of osteoporosis using the Achilles test, which passes ultrasound through the heel. Participants should wear easy to remove shoes and socks; no pantyhose. Advance registration required. Free. Oct. 2; 1:30-3 p.m.
Diabetes Services
The outpatient program meets the American Diabetes Associations national standards for self-management education. The free support group aims to provide mutual support and education. For more information, call 773-794-8329. Support group meets the first Tuesday of every month; 6:30-8 p.m.
Vision Screening
Eye Specialists of Chicago trained staff will conduct a vision screening, which includes a pressure reading for glaucoma. Please do not wear contact lenses but do bring eyeglasses with you. Advance registration required. Free. Oct. 2, 9-11 a.m.
Healthy Aging
This free program includes discussion of health topics and social time. Scheduled events are: September, Tom Lydon, Illinois Comptrollers Office, will discuss credit cards and debt. October, Shawn Ehlert-Katzman, speech pathologist, will demonstrate tips and tactics for keeping ones mind alert. November, Robert Shuford, chaplain, will discuss living wills. December, annual Christmas party. Registration is not required. Meets the second Friday of every month, 1-2:30 p.m.
Hearing Screening
Audiologists Steven Wolinsky, Au.D., and Marie Vetter, Au.D., will perform this screening in a soundproof booth in the second floor Audiology Department. Advance registration is required. Free. Oct. 9; 9 a.m.-Noon
Depression Screening
Untreated depression can deplete energy and interfere with daily life. Resurrection Behavioral Health clinical staff will offer a confidential screening that takes 20-minutes. Participants will be contacted one week after the screening with a follow-up phone call if they approve. Advance registration required. Free. Oct. 12; 9 a.m.-Noon
Skin Screening
Dermatologist Taraneh Firoozi, M.D., will perform a total body screening or check specific sites of concern. Patient gowns will be available. Advance registration is required. Free. Oct. 22; 6-8 p.m., Oct 26; 1-3 p.m.

The National Kidney Foundation of Illinois and hospital staff will provide free screenings, including: Blood pressure Body mass index Waist circumference Blood glucose Blood draw for kidney function Urinalysis
Participants will be asked to provide a urine sample and should plan on spending an hour for the screening. Approximately one week after the screening, results will be mailed to the participants. Information will be available on kidney disease prevention and successfully managing diabetes and hypertension, the primary causes of CKD.
