MAC LEAN SCHOLARSHIP GENERAL INFORMATION

B ACKGROUND

The Rowe Fund Student loan program of the Organization of American States (OAS ) is offering scholarships for Peruvian wom en to help finance their higher education in the DC metropolitan area (The Mac Lean Scholarship Fund). The Mac Lean Scholarship Fund was established through the bequest of Julia Mac Lean, a former General Secretariat staff member of the Organization of American States. With this bequest, Ms. Mac Lean wished to create a scholarship fund to benefit Peruvian wom en studying in the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan area that would be managed by the Rowe Fund of the OAS.

A PPLICATION P ROCESS

Applications are now open! A total of 10 onetime scholarships will be awarded, in the amount of $6,522 each. Completed applications are due by September 14, 2012, and will be evaluated by the Rowe Fund committee on the basis of merit and need. Applicants will be notified of decisions within the month, and awardees will be sent a check at their U.S. address. For more information on the application process, please see the Application Checklist which follows and attached application materials.

E LIGIBILITY R EQUIREMENTS

The candidate must:

Be a female Peruvian national studying in any university in the Washington DC Metropolitan Area

Have a GPA of at least 3.0

Be enrolled full time in a degree program at an accredited university in Washington DC Metropolitan Area

Possess a Student Academic or Exchange Visitor visa (J, F, or M) allowing them to st udy full time in the United States

Be able to demonstrate other sources of financing to cover the greater part of the academic expenses for their present studies, such as savings, employment, or other scholarships

Commit to return to Peru within a year of completion of their studies in the United States, with the purpose of applying their knowledge and training.

MAC LEAN SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION CHECKLIST

The following is a list of the documents and forms applicants must submit in order to apply for the Mac Lean Scholarship. Please carefully read the "General Information " before completing the application . It is the applicant’s responsibility to gather all listed documents and submit them as one complete package to the following address:

The deadline for submissions is SEPTEMBER 14, 2012 —all applications must be receiv ed by this date.

A brief introductory letter stating your reasons for applying for a Mac Lean Scholarship and your plans to apply the knowledge acquired from your training upon returning to Peru.

Evidence of other sources of financing to cover the grea ter part of the academic expenses (For instance, a copy of documents that demonstrate funding from other scholarships, fellowships, and subsidies granted to pursue your present studies or proof of any salary that you are earning in the United States.)
