Canadian Government assignment

The Prime Minister of Canada is the head of the executive branch of the Canadian federal government. The Prime Minister which is currently Stephen Harper, provides leadership and direction to government, with the support of the cabinet which he the prime minister chooses. The Prime Ministers office of political staff and the privy council office of non-partisan public servants who provide a focal point for the Canadian public service. The cabinet is made up of about 46 ministries all of which lead by someone different, it is a key decision-making forum in Canadian government. Minister of Justice- The Honourable Robert Douglas Nicholson; Being the Minister of Justice he is responsible for more than 47 statutes and areas of federal law, such as human rights, family and youth law, administrative law, aboriginal justice, general public law and private international law. He also introduces polices and programs that not only change the law but are intended to influence the way the law is applied, how the legal system functions and how individuals interact with the system. Robert Douglas Nicholson is also the attorney general of Canada, which includes responsibilities such as advising federal departments and agencies on behalf of the crown, and represents the crown whenever legal actions are taken against the federal body. In other words he is the lawyer for Canada. Minister of State (seniors)- The Honourable Marjory LeBreton She is responsible for working on a host of issues important to seniors including combating elder abuse, assisting low income seniors, and rewarding the sacrifices of older Canadians who contributed greatly to the country that we have today. Ministry of Indian Affairs- The Honourable Chuck Strahl He is responsible for overseeing the corresponding federal government department (Indian and Northern Affairs Canada), administering the Indian act and other legislation dealing with Indians and lands reserved for the Indians. As the minister he is also responsible for supervising federal involvement in the territorial governments of the Yukon, Northwest

Territories and Nunavut. He is also the Minister of the Canadian Northern Economic development agency. Minister of National Defence- The Honourable Peter Gordon MacKay As the Minister of National Defence he is responsible for many things which include defence research and development Canada, Communications Security Establishment, Canadian Forces housing agency, Judge Advocate General, Military Police Complaints Commission, Canadian Forces grievance board, Office of the chief Military Judge, Office of the national defence and Canadian forces Ombudsman, Canadian Forces Personnel Support Agency, Cadets and junior Canadian Rangers and National Search and Rescue Secretariat. Minister Of International Trade- The Honourable Stockwell Day He is the Minister of the Crown in the Canadian cabinet though he is the head of the federal governments international trade department and the provisions of treaties such as the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) so he basically holds up the trade agreements within Canada and all of its trade partners. Minister Of Labour- The Honourable Rona Ambrose As the Minister of Labour Rona Ambrose is responsible for setting national labour standards and federal labour dispute mechanisms. Most of the responsibility for labour belongs with the provinces, however the federal government is responsible for labour issues in industries under its jurisdiction. President Of the Treasury Board- The Honourable Vic Toews The Treasury board is full of ministers but Vic Toews is the president which of whom oversees it, by support the treasury board as a committee of ministers and to fulfil the statutory responsibilities of a central government agency. It is headed by a secretary, who reports to the president of the treasury board. Minister Of Human Resources- The Honourable Diane Finley

The main responsibilities for this job is to develop polices that make Canada a society in which all can use their talents, skills and resources to participate in learning, work and their community. Also to create programs and support initiatives that help Canadians move through lifes translations- such as families with children to seniors etc. Create better outcomes for Canadians through service excellence with service Canada and other partners. And to engage our employees, establish a healthy work environment, nurture a culture of teamwork, and build our leadership capacity. Minister Of International cooperation- The Honourable Beverly J. Oda The minister of international cooperation is responsible for overseeing Canadian international development strategy, including responsibility for the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA). Minister of the Environment- The Honourable Jim Prentice His job is to make sure that Environment Canada mandate is enforced, which is to preserve and enhance the quality of the natural environment; conserve Canadas renewable resources; conserve and protect Canadas water resources; forecast weather and environmental change; enforce rules relating to boundary waters; and coordinate environmental policies and programs for the federal government. Minister of Transportation- The Honourable John Baird He is responsible for transportation Canada which of whom is responsible for transportation policies and programs. It ensures that air, marine, road and rail transportation are safe, secure, efficient and environmentally responsible. Minister Of Foreign Affairs- The Honourable Lawrence Cannon Is responsible for, overseeing the federal governments international relations section of foreign affairs and international trade Canada. The minister is also the lead in overseeing the International Centre for human rights and democratic development and the international development research centre.

Minister of industry- The Honourable Tony Clement The department works with Canadians throughout the economy and in all parts of the country to improve conditions for investment, improve Canadas innovation performance, increase Canadas share of global trade and build a fair, efficient and competitive marketplace. Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs- The Honourable- Josee Verner Provides advice and support to the Prime Minister and the Minister Of Intergovernmental Affairs on policies, communications and parliamentary affairs relating to federal-provincial-territorial relations. This includes fiscal federalism, the evolution of the federation and Canadian unity. Minister Of Public Safety- Peter Van Loan Keeping Canadians safe from a range of risks such as natural disasters, crime and terrorism. Coordinates and supports the efforts of federal organization ensuring national security and the safety of Canadians. Works with other level of government, first responders, community groups, the private sector and other nations. Minister of Agricultural and agri-food- The honourable Gerry Ritz Keeps the Canadian agricultural producers are the backbone of a highly competitive sector worth 130$ billion a year. Provides information and programs for those who raise animals or who grow plants for food, feed or industrial use. Minister of Citizenship- The Honourable Jason Kenney Is the head of a department that admits immigrants, foreign students, visitors and temporary workers who help Canadas social economic growth. Resettles, protects and provides and safe haven for refugees. Helps newcomers adapt to Canadian society and become Canadian citizens. Manages access to Canada to protect the security and health of Canadians and the integrity of Canadian laws and Helps Canadians and newcomers to participate fully in the economic, political, social and cultural life of the country.

Minister Of Health- The Honourable Leona Aglukkaq Is responsible for overseeing the federal governments health department (health Canada) and the enforcing the public health agency of Canada, Canada health act, the law governing medicare. Minister Of Natural Resources- The Honourable Lisa Raitt Runs the Department of Natural Resources which is responsible for natural resources, energy, minerals and metals, forests, earth sciences, mapping, and remote sensing. Also responsible for developing of Canadas natural resources, including energy, forests, minerals and metals. Minister Of State (transport)- The Honourable Rob Merrifield Making sure that safe and secure transportation system protects people from loss of life and from loss of or damage to health and property. There are many more Ministers and Ministries In the Canadian Federal government, from the Prime Minister of Canada to the rest of his party. In total there are around 46 Ministers all responsible for making sure Canada such a nice place to live and making sure that the people new or old to Canada is comfortable, safe, and healthy and stay that way.
