Mobile phones today come with a bewildering array of features. Some of them are important and need to be carefully considered, while others are hardly used by the majority of the users. For advicing an economical model of cell phone to my friend it is necessary for me to first know as to what is his requirements in terms of feautures & budget. Requirements will include a list of following feautures or elements & let us consider my friend has the following requirements for buying a cellphone & his budget is 7,000 to 10,000: 1. Display While most phones have a colour screen, he needs a phone with a TFT (thin film transistor) or Active Matrix screen which provides a wider viewing angle compared to the traditional passive LCD technology. The other parameters required by him are size, resolution and no. of colors of display.

2. Sound / Ringtones While polyphonic ringtones have become standard, he wants phone that can play MP3 songs as ringtones.

3. Camera Use a camera phone to take spontaneous pictures or even video clips. Camera phones have gained in popularity significantly over the past few years. While earlier camera phones used to typically offer 640x480 resolutions todays models routinely offer 1 Mega Pixel / 1.3 Mega Pixel cameras. The higher end phones have started offering 2 Mega Pixel cameras. Hence he requires a minimum of 2 Mega Pixel of cam for his cell phone.

4. Connectivity A GPRS / EDGE enabled handset will allow to browse the internet (on your phone itself or on a laptop by doubling up as a modem).Hence he requires GPRS to surf the net on the goBluetooth is also what he requires to transfer data from one device to other.

5. Touch screen As a techno savvy person, he also needs a touch screen system in phone.

7. Expandable Memory Slot Expandable memory slot so that he can store more of data on his cellphone.

11. 3G Third generation Mobile Phones(NOT REQUIRED) 3G is not exactly what he requires as it is just introduce in India by 2 public sector units (MTNL, BSNL).

Justification
There are many cell phones which have hit the Indian market because the number of cell phone users are going up day by day. So are the the requirements of consumers increasing day by day with increasing feautures like touch screen, 3G,mobile TV ,video calling, high speed internet etc. Hence almost all the mobile handset manufacturing companies like Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Samsung, Motorola etc are giving such feautures in their handset. But the price factor is merely considered by any of the companies leaving the consumer unsatisfied in terms of pricing of the product. To give an example Sony Ericsson products give ample of feautures built in it but pricing is too high for the middle class consumers to afford it. Sony Ericsson C510i does not have a touch screen facility while has inbuilt 3G but is priced high at 10,500 INR. Nokia 5310 xpress music is a hot seller this days but I cannot recommend this phone to my friend as there is no touch screen facility in it. Samsung Star 3G is over all a good phone from the stable of Samsung mobile with touch screen, 3G, Wi-Fi and other good feautures in it which is priced at 10,500 INR but on the other hand other product from the Samsung mobile i.e Samsung Corby has all the feautures of Samsung Star 3G except Wi-Fi and 3G(which is not required by my friend)and is priced at 8,000 INR which suits best in my friends budget as well his feautures requirements. Samsung Corby also has an advantage of exchangeable cover. Hence when compared Samsung Star 3G and Samsung Corby, Samsung Corby has an edge over Samsung Star 3G and other phones in terms of pricing. So as

Page

18

per my friends requirement and his budgeted figure(7,000 to 10,000 INR), Samsung Corby suits him the best.

19

Conclusion
Since my friend requires a cellphone which can satisfy maximum of the feautures like TFT touch display, MP3 ringtones, 2mega pixel camera, GPRS/EDGE connectivity, Triband network, Multimedia feautures, expandable memory slot, java platform for gaming etc with a budget of merely 7,000 to 10,000 INR, I would suggest him to opt for Samsung corby, which is a cool phone from Samsung at affordable price. Samsung Corby not only satisfies the requirement mentioned by my friend but also satisfies the budget mentioned by him. Over all Samsung Corby is value for Money. Hence he can definitely go for it without any consideration. A BIG YES to Samsung Corby. Go for it my dear friend.
