Script Dummie 1: Welcome to 10 Guiding Principles of Instructional Technology and Distance Education for dummies. You are going to learn important principles that will make you one smart dummy on the ITDE highway. Dummy 2 I hope so

Production Notes Transition: Camera 5 Animated Dummy 1 will talk to Dummy 2 Time: 33 seconds

1. (2) Analyze your learners Fly in from right side

Transition: Cut In: Fly- In You must be able to analyze *Principles will have individual your learners. Learners text slide/voiceover (repeat for all learns different ways, principles). Images will be on styles, and times. following scene. Understanding and Time: 21 seconds addressing the individual nature of each learner is important. This information will act as a guide during the design of the lesson (Smaldino, Lowther, & Russell, 2012).

fly In from left side

2. (3) Must have clear standards

Fly in from the left

Having stated goals are Transition: Cut In:- Fly-In essential for the instructor. Begin with the end in mind. Objectives should be S.M.A.R.T acronym S.M.A.R.T. Time: 21 seconds Now as Ko & Rossen (2010) stated dont drive yourself crazy trying to write precise learning objectives (p.57) The point is to express as clearly and plainly as possible what you want the learners to do and how you want them to apply

3. (4)Learners must be engaged and motivated

what they learned. Dummy 2: You cant be smart if you are a dummy! Learners needs should be supported. If you know the purpose of the lesson, as Simonson says, it is okay to de-emphasize the informative part of the instruction for more discovery of information. This will help keep learners engaged (Simonson, 2012, p. 159). Even trying simple icebreaking activities will help learners engage in simple team building. (Ko & Rossen, 2010, p. 175) Oh yeah, just because they are engaged doesnt mean they are motivated! I suggest you use the ARCS model which stands for Attention, Relevance, Confidence, Satisfaction. It reinforces expectation, provides opportunities for success and attributing success to effort (Keller, 2006).

Transition: Push Individual will sit at the computer and be excited! Video will be recorded in a close up shot. Picture will fade in and out Embedded Video will play Time 32 seconds

4. (5) Should incorporate Web 2.0 tools into lesson design

Slide in

Blooms Taxonomy

Why not incorporate Web 2.0 tools into the classroom? Web 2.0 tools can be used in all levels of Blooms taxonomy. Blooms taxonomy of remembering, understanding, analyzing, evaluating, and creating can be addressed using Web 2.0 tools in the classroom ( Marotta, 2011). Blogs, wikis, podcasts, and social networks support critical thinking, active participation, collaborative learning, two way communication and social presence. However, if you should set norms and expectations prior to using Web 2.0 tools with your learners. (Usluel and Mazman, 2009). These tools could also be used for formative evaluation of your learners too.

Transition: Reveal Words Blooms Taxonomy will slide in from the right Time: 25 seconds

5. (6) Select appropriate strategies technology, media, and material

Technology, media, or materials should not be used just for the sake of using the latest . As Clark stated, it is the only the content of the media can influence achievement (Clark, 2001, p. 2). Use materials and media that are accessible to the students.

Transition: Cut In- pictures of media, technology, and material individually Time 15 seconds

6. (7) Must evaluate and revise

It is not possible to know if the instructional plan is effective or how to revise strategies if you do not assess learner achievement as well as evaluate the instructor, The instructor can be evaluated through the four basic types of instructor evaluation: self, student, peer and administrator (Smaldino, Rowther, &Russell, 2012 p. 60).

Transition: Pan Time: 15 seconds

7. (8)Shall stay informed of new technologies

Just because it worked the first time doesnt mean it will work the second time. You should always stay abreast on research and applications so you will not be a bandwagon jumper.

Transition: Professional Organization slide in from right Research Action slide in from left Time 15 seconds

Every new thing is not googood! (Ko & Rossen, 2010, p.377)

8. (9) Acknowledge the digital divide

Division isnt just for the roads. Division occurs digitally. You must acknowledge the digital divide. Once again this is another reason why you should analyze your learners. Your learners may be located in a rural and lower socioeconomic regions. Even though your learners may have access to the Internet they may not understand how to use Internet resources. It is also important to note that not all learners have easy

Transition: Fade in First image fade in and remain static. The comic strip will fade in and remain Time 20 seconds

assess to resources Dont place an undue burden on the learners. o participate in an educational experience beyond a normal school day (Simonson, et.al, 2012, p.127; p.222). Dummie 2: Oh

9. (10) It is not your right to steal

Fade in

Just because you are an instructor does not mean you can copy anyones work. Fair use of copyright material is only for the purposes such as criticism, comment, news, reporting, and teaching, (Simonson, et. al 2012, p. 297). The Copyright Act of 1976 contains civil and criminal sanctions and fines that range from $750 to $30,000 per infringement. (Smaldino, Lowther, & Russell, 2012, p. 13).

Transition: Doors Make sure there is audio of jail cell closing and car crash. Time 27 seconds

10. (11)Be Prepared and plan! Be Prepared (Text enters screen Window) Youtube Video

You cant expect your learners to be engaged when you are ill prepared. Planning is the key to effective instruction no matter the instructional delivery or what type of media is used. Planning ahead keeps you ahead of the curve (Dick & Carey) Using a systematic approach to instructional design such as the Dick & Carey model is a powerful tool for planning the lesson. Dummy 1: Well dummy you are officially ready to begin the journey on ITDE highway.

Transition: Window Clip the Youtube video of Lion King song of Be Prepared Edit clip to just include the chorus. Time: 7 seconds
