Coming through hetero-hatred

Culture News Feast Straight Hate Day is perhaps unknown to most. But the fact is that it began to be celebrated as early as Tuesday and tomorrow in celebration reaches its climax, including the notion SCUM. It is based on a controversial feminist manifesto, but the theater chooses to combine the message with humor. Published: Thursday, August 27, 2009 | 08:00

Hetero Hatred Day - it may sound a bit extreme. It should not be taken too literally, the hatred is directed primarily against the heterosexual norm. But the name of the feast is undeniably powerful and raises a few eyebrows safely. The initiative is Gothenburg Queer Institutions according to the website "to promote an uncompromising opposition to heterosexism." Five days ordained for discussions, lectures, film screenings, and much more. Most of the week's events will take place in the arts during the Earth, so even the evening's theater, SCUM. A performance with clear feminist overtones. Most of SCUM, which consists of eight young women, met during the last school year when they studied drama together. In the spring it was time for group projects, and this led eventually to the notion that the revival tonight. - We wanted to work with a text that was written for the theater, and from the outset, we wanted to do something with a feminist message, says Josephine von Zeipel Segerberg, one of the actors. It was her idea to take on Valerie Solanas SCUM Manifesto book that came out of the 1967th SCUM stands for Society for Cutting Up But, unfortunately, the ambiguity is lost in the Swedish translation. The book described men as totally unnecessary, according to the manifesto, no boys are bred and the world will consist of women only. But members of SCUM think it is important to emphasize that all of the text should not be taken quite literally, although the basic message is quite important. The humor of it is recovered and used much of the show.

Hetero Hatred Day Now in its third year in a row of Gothenburg Queer Institute. Institute establishment in 2007. Celebrations underway in five days, and Saturday is the last, and the Straight Hate Day. Take advantage of including art, activist coaching, ultra-feminist porn festival, international artistic gala and much more. For more information visit www.kamplust.se / heterohat .

- We parodies including the traditional female role. Humor is a great way to reach out, to get people to listen, says Emma Johannesson. SCUM commute between healthy sense of humor, seriousness, and above all thought-provoking units. And the group uses drama, dance, music, projections and much play with light and sound. All means are allowed when you want to convey an important message. - We use the pull as well, says Josephine. We play men and reflects masculinity. It is important to make visible structures based on gender roles. That they were asked by the Queer Institute to be on the Straight Hate Day, they can very well understand. But they do not think that hatred is a good way to go to reach their goals. - But it's also a way to reach out, says Josephine. They have received much criticism for using a word that is so negatively charged, but you can reverse it and do it for attention. That the content of the show, Solana's text, is an excellent basis for discussion, they see as a strength and the hope that the audience may bring something to think about. - You can not be neutral, objective, says Emma. They argue that emotion and frustration must be expressed, not by force, but there are other ways.

There is something remarkable fact - that minorities have no problem taking on majorities. But the slightest suggestion in the opposite direction, then you are suddenly racist or anti-Semitic or homophobic or anything else suitable. Where the law stands it really make it that way?
