Polypropylene
Polypropylene is a plastic polymer. Polypropylene is most commonly used for plastic moldings, where it is injected into a mold while molten, forming complex shapes at relatively low cost and high volume. Example is Purpl Chair. It can also be produced in sheet form using extrusion, Plastics extrusion is a high volume manufacturing process in which raw plastic material is melted and formed into a continuous profile. Example product is The Flux Chair. The availability of sheet polypropylene has provided an opportunity for the use of the material by designers. The light-weight, durable, and colorful plastic makes an ideal medium for the creation of a number of designs. Offers a good balance of thermal, chemical and electrical properties with moderate strength. It possesses a good strength to weight ratio. These sheets can be heat formed, shaped and welded to fabricate ducts, hoods, and much more. They have excellent corrosion resistance to a wide range of items. Cannot be cemented but are easily welded with a plastic welder. PP can be cut with a wood saw and drilled with regular metal bits. Polypropylene has a .90 density, rigid with fair impact resistance and very good abrasion resistance.

The Flux Chair

The Flux Chair is a functional lounge chair made out of a single section of polypropylene plastic. It uses cleverly-placed curves, bends and folds to support weight , allowing for surprising sturdiness. When folded down, it comes with a built-in handle because of the size, it's easier to stack, making it perfect for outdoor activities and one-day events.

Pupl by Christoph Pillet

The goal was to build a chair that would serve for a long time and easy to clean so you could use it not only at home but also in some public places. These chairs are suitable for your modern dining room or to your conference hall at the office and they would look organic. It has a simple, bright, with contemporary design.

Corrugated Cardboard
Corrugated Cardboard is a paper-based material consisting of a fluted corrugated sheet and one or two flat linerboards. It is widely used in the manufacture of corrugated boxes. The corrugated medium and linerboard is made of containerboard, a paper-like material usually 0.25 mm thick. Corrugated board is manufactured on large high-precision machinery lines called corrugators, usually running at about 2.5 square meters per minute. Paper fluting forms a series of connected arches that support many times their own weight -- especially when arches' ends anchor to a paper facing, acting like springs or cushions to resist crushing and impact. With a high strength-to-weight ratio, structural rigidity and excellent tear, tensile and burst strength, corrugated cardboard makes a superior packaging material.

Paper Tiger Stool is an award-winning cardboard furniture made in Melbourne Australia. Quickly assembled from flat-pack, the stools are perfect for events, exhibitions, conferences, cafe fitouts and more. The surface can be custom printed, making it a powerful tool for advertising and branding.

Chick n Egg Chair is a lightweight seating furniture made entirely from corrugated cardboard. The form was parametrically 3D modelled. This setup allows the piece to be rescaled to any desired size, resolution and material strength. This very simple and rulebased design makes the chair a beautiful and affordable piece of furniture that is sustainable and unique in it's appearance.

Aluminium
Aluminum is an abundant metallic chemical element which is widely used throughout the world for a wide range of products. The element has an atomic number of 13, and it is identified with the symbol Al on the periodic table of elements. It has great features which includes: Lightweight - Aluminum is about one-third the weight of an equal volume of copper, steel or brass. Strength - Aluminum can withstand heavy loads and pressure; when alloyed appropriately, its strength approaches that of steel. High strength-to-weight ratio - The ratio of the tensile strength of aluminum, divided by density, is higher than any other metal. Resilience/Flexibility - Some applications require some flexibility in addition to strength; an aluminum sailboat mast can spring back where necessary and bend slightly. Aluminum streetlights also provide necessary resilience with safety benefits of flexibility. Finishing - Aluminum can be finished with a variety of coatings and finishes such as paint, lacquer, porcelain or organic coatings, which can be anodized to bond to the metal. Recyclability - Aluminum can be easily reclaimed and recycled into new, final aluminum products.

#1Aluminum Stool is very strong and lightweight stool. It weighs less than 1.5 kgs, so you can carry it around the house with ease, yet holds up to approximately 130 kgs. Made from five 18 gauge bent and riveted aluminum pieces.

Pressed Chair by Harry Thaler is lightweight, flexible and strong as steel. This is often called a aluminum flat chair that is one of the creative work of industrial products. Use of material cut thin sheet of aluminum which makes the structure of a flat chair design relatively lightweight and flexible. In addition, the design of solid materials allows components to be recycled.

Steel Rods
When iron is smelted from its ore by commercial processes, it contains more carbon than is desirable. To become steel, it must be melted and reprocessed to reduce the carbon to the correct amount, at which point other elements can be added. This liquid is then continuously cast into long slabs or cast into ingots. Approximately 96% of steel is continuously cast, while only 4% is produced as cast steel ingots. The ingots are then heated in a soaking pit and hot rolled into slabs, blooms, or billets. Billets are hot or cold rolled into bars, rods, and wire. Steel has low, medium or high carbon, with most metal furniture being made with low carbon because it's cheaper than a higher grade of carbon. Stainless steel is good for low maintenance. Made of an alloy of carbon, iron and other metals, its main reason for its strength is because of chromium, which protects from rust and corrosion because of its thin film of oxide on the surface. Choosing the right finish metal furniture is important because of its durability. Some of the most common ones include chrome plating, plastic, painted, brass and anodized finishes.

Heavy Rabbit consists of 31 steel elements, each individual is bent by hand and then welded to the other. The result is an unusual stool, which not only functions as a seat, but also provides storage space. Books, magazines and other small items and favorite things found in the interstices of space.

Designer Pauline Deltour has used metal wire to create a few pieces for Alessi, one of which is this little A Tempo Stool. The A Tempo Stool is available in chrome-plated steel or red powder-coated steel.

Synthetic Felt
Felt is a non-woven cloth that is produced by matting, condensing and pressing woollen fibres. While some types of felt are very soft, some are tough enough to form construction materials. Felt can be of any colour, and made into any shape or size. Synthetic felts is unlike the traditional wool pressed felts, synthetic felts are mechanically needle punched in construction and are comprised of synthetic fiber which include Polyester, Polypropylene and viscose blends. It has durable, strong, keeps its shape and lightweight features.Synthetic felts are designed to copy traditional wool pressed felts with thickness and density but are attractive in that they are typically less expensive than wool felts Synthetic felts have significant resiliency. Felts naturally insulate against cold, heat, sound and vibration. Materials can be die cut with no fraying and minimal loose fibers.

One Cut stools by Swedish designer Britta Teleman The felt stools allow the owner to mix and match each layer according to their desired height, form, and function. Their design ensure that both the inside cut and the outer frame are used, thus requiring less material, creating less waste, and giving them a variety of uses. The outer shape can be closed off for a flat surface, or hollow pieces can be used to create a nice dip to sit in.

Fox & Freeze1 is an indoor lounge chair made out of 1 square sheet of synthetic felt. It is not supported with wood or metal or other. The Structure is self-supporting, the flax rope contracts the chair and finishes the chair aesthetically. The shell and base are not separated from the sheet but remain connected. Starting from a square surface, the felt sheet is twisted and twisted again, this is literally forms follows function.
