This document summarizes equipment that is known to be compatible with the Brocade SilkWorm Family
of switches, directors, and routers. Products named in this documents compatibility lists reflect equipment
tested at Brocade, and equipment tested by Brocade OEM and developer partners.
Brocade and its OEM and development partners have tested a wide variety of devices for compatibility
with the Brocade SilkWorm family of switches, directors, and routers. The current list of Brocade products
may be found at http://www.brocade.com/products/index.jsp. Based on product testing and operation of
products in customer installations, the following Support and Compatibility guidelines have been
generated for reference. The devices listed in this matrix are deemed compatible with Brocade products
in a Brocade infrastructure. Brocade cannot provide direct support for the end nodes or applications listed
in this document, but is committed to ensuring the Brocade infrastructure is operating correctly while
integrating with these components. The components listed in this document are not guaranteed to work in
all configurations, but Brocade is committed to help customers with a valid Brocade Support Contract to
resolve any compatibility issues. For purposes of this document, compatibility is defined as having the
ability to connect to the SilkWorm product, to register with the name server (if appropriate), and to support
a moderate level of I/O. Users of this list should plan on validating their specific configuration with a level
of testing appropriate to their application.
Sections titled Brocade Compatibility Matrix Quick Reference and Brocade Compatibility Matrix by
Vendor provide an overview of devices that are compatible within a Brocade infrastructure. Guidance is
provided on products that are known to be able to integrate with a Brocade infrastructure. To ensure
proper integration, users should refer configuration details to their OEM or integrator supporting these
devices. Brocade expects that the solution provider will supply detailed guidelines on the correct
firmware, driver, and configuration settings required to ensure any specific needs are met. By the date of
publication of this document many vendors may offer more recent software support for their products.
Users of this document should refer questions on end-to-end interoperability to their OEM or integration
partner. Your support provider can assist with the proper configuration and tuning of your end-to-end
solution to meet any specific business needs. The products listed in this section are considered
compatible in a Brocade infrastructure.
The column titled Fabric Aware in the section Brocade Compatible Matrix Quick Reference indicates
products that have been tested within the guidelines of the Brocade Fabric Aware Partner program. This
program provides a key set of guidelines to ensure that partners products meet the minimum
requirements for compatibility in a Brocade networked storage environment. Fabric Aware is intended to
provide additional assurance that standard off-the-shelf components can integrate seamlessly within an
existing Brocade infrastructure. More information on the Fabric Aware program can be found at
http://www.brocade.com/partners/fabric_aware_program.jsp.
In addition to the product testing performed by Brocade, Brocade OEM and Development Partners also
have extensive testing programs. Each of these partners may maintain their own compatibility,
interoperability or support guidelines, and can provide detailed information on the configurations they
support. Products and product variants not specifically listed in this document can and may be compatible
and supported in a production SAN infrastructure. Your OEM or integration partner is the first reference
for questions on supported devices, fabric configuration, firmware or Fabric OS selection, and any
settings for end-to-end solution deployment.

Notes:
The Maximum Zone Database cannot exceed the lowest maximum value in the fabric (use the command
cfgsize to determine the zoning database size).
The support limits apply to a single fabric and connected devices. The implementation of zoning is
recommended for any SAN and especially critical for any large fabric, since zoning is fundamental to the
functioning of multi-hundred port fabrics.

initialization process after all L_Ports have selected an AL_PA. It gets transmitted
around the loop so all L_Ports can report their relative physical position. This is an
optional frame.
Loop Initialization Soft Assigned frame; the fourth frame transmitted in the loop
initialization process after a temporary loop master has been selected. L_Ports that
have not selected an AL_PA in a LIFA, LIPA, or LIHA frame will select their AL_PA
here.
Loop Initialization Select Master frame; the first frame transmitted in the initialization

or the L_Port that will subsequently start transmission of the LIFA, LIPA, LIHA, LISA,
LIRP, or LILP frames.
A logical network that spans multiple fabrics. The path between devices in an LSAN
can be local to an edge fabric or cross one or more Multiprotocol Routers and up to
one intermediate backbone fabric. LSANs are administered through LSAN zones in
each edge fabric.

all L_Ports to which it is directed. It is used only in Arbitrated Loops.
Loop Port Enable; a primitive sequence transmitted by an L_Port to enable one or
all L_Ports that have been bypassed with the LPB. It is used only in Arbitrated
Loops.
Loop port; a port supporting the Arbitrated Loop protocol. It appears as the part of
the output of a switchShow command.
Loop Port State Machine; logic that monitors and performs the tasks required for
initialization and access to the loop. It is maintained by an L_Port to track behavior
through different phases of loop operations.
Link Reset; a primitive sequence used during link initialization between two N_Ports
in point-to-point topology, or an N_Port and an F_Port in Fabric topology. The
expected response is an LRR.
Link Reset Response; a primitive sequence during link initialization between two
N_Ports in point-to-point topology, or an N_Port and an F_Port in Fabric topology. It
is sent in response to an LR, and expects a response of Idle.
The mechanism by which LSANs are administered.A Multiprotocol Router attached
to two fabrics will "listen" for the creation of matching LSAN zones on both fabrics. If
this occurs, it will create phantom domains and FC-NAT entries as appropriate, and
insert entries for them into the nameservers on the fabrics. LSAN zones are
compatible with standard zoning mechanisms.
Long wavelength fiber-optic; based on 1300 and 1550nm lasers supporting 1 and 2
gigabit-per-second link speeds.

N_Ports in the point-to-point topology, or an N_Port and F_Port in the Fabric
topology. It is sent to indicate that the transmitting port has detected a link failure or
is offline. An OLS is the expected response.
A port used as a source and destination address for frames traversing a backbone
fabric.A normal E_Port (not an EX_Port) is used to connect a Multiprotocol Router to
a backbone. An NR_Port appears to the rest of the backbone as a standard N_Port
connected to the Multiprotocol Router domain.

Sequence Identifier; a 1-byte field in the frame header change to identify the frames
SEQ_ID
as being part of a particular Exchange Sequence between a pair of ports.
A group of related frames transmitted unidirectionally from one N_Port to another.
Sequence
Sequence initiator The N_Port that begins a new Sequence and transmits frames to another N_Port.
Sequence recipient The N_Port to which a particular Sequence of data frames is directed.
SERializing/DESerializing circuitry; a circuit that converts a serial bit stream into
SERDES
parallel characters, and vice-versa.
The transmission of data bits in sequential order over a single line.
Serial
A computer that processes end-user applications or requests.

Synchronous Optical Network; a standard for optical networks providing building
blocks and flexible payload mappings.
A special 10-bit character that does not have a corresponding 8-bit value but is still
considered valid. The special character is used to indicate that a particular
transmission word is an ordered set. This is the only type of character to have five
