These discrepancies were evidentas the different civilizations were presented in the compilation. But it cannot be denied that sex played a huge role in influencing a societys rise and demise. It flourished during the ancientcivilization which included the Mesopotamians, Egyptians, Greeks and the Romans. It continuedon in the in the civilizations of the East which include the Japanese, Chinese, Indians and theArabs. Its downfall was apparent during the middle ages in Europe but subtly made its come back during the high middle ages. Due to the emergence of the Catholic Church, spreading its prominence across the world was the Spaniards goal alongside with the acquisition of wealthand power over native lands. But the practices of the Catholic Church were put in to question asthe rise of the Renaissance period took place and so did sexuality. But during the start of theVictorian reign, oppressive measures were applied to women. The tables turned during the latter part of this period as zealous women surfaced and fought for their say on sexuality. Ancient Civilization

The beginnings of sex were first recorded during 3200 B.C. and were c a r v e d i n t h e Mesopotamian tablets. Being a patriarchal society, sex is a onesided business. It favors thesexual musts of the males since they are viewed as more sexual than their counterparts. And sotemple priestesses were made available to spread the healing powers of an intercourse.The Egyptians viewed sex as closely related to their spirituality. Because of this, it has b e e n d o n e f o r r e c r e a t i o n p r o d u c i n g a l a n d with no virgins. Despite the prevalence of sex, adultery is frowned upon. They still keep in mind the essence of sex and that is for procreationthat will result to keeping their lineage alive.In Greece, the country is regarded as a mans world in terms of sex. O n t h e o t h e r h a n d , w o m e n s t a y e d a t h o m e b u t a l s o fulfilled their sexual appetites by using dildos made by their local shoemaker. Another strikingaspect of Greeks sexuality is their homosexual behavior for men and women alike. It was not astigma and in their society and homosexuality is very much welcome.The Roman Empire started as a promiscuous society as the rampant spread of sexualactivities occurred. The women in the upperclass were as randy as their male counterparts as theye n g a g e t h e m s e l v e s i n different sexual partners. But this was put to an end when A u g u s t u s became the empire and he declared that sex out of marriage was a crime. To further counter thissexual fiasco, he offered incentives to married couples who would have sex to bear children. Eastern Civilization The Chinese were very particular in the maintenance of equilibrium in their everydaylives including sex. This is made evident in the concept of yin and yang which is the semen of t h e m a n a n d t h e v i t a l e n e r g y b e i n g r e l e a s e d b y t h e w o m a n d u r i n g i n t e r c o u r s e r e s p e c t i v e l y . Confucianism and Daoism both promoted procreation and formation of the family as the producto f s e x . A s f o r B u d d h i s m , i t s t r a n s c e n d i n g a n d e n l i g h t e n i n g e f f e c t o f i t o n i n d i v i d u a l s w e r e stressed. During intercourse, men are not supposed to ejaculate. It was believed that suchcontrol can improve ones eyesight and hearing, be invulnerable to diseases and even acquireeternal life. The women in this period of time were deemed attractive if they bound their feet.And this has been a widespread practice which was short-lived because of its negative effects. Another interesting fact about Chinese sexuality is the origin of the red light districts. To signifythat a man and a prostitute were doing their own business, a red cloth is hung on a lamp.The Japanese are in favor of extramarital affairs which were made possible by hiring p r o s t i t u t e s . T h e p r o s t i t u t e s w e r e r e g a r d e d a s t h e g o d d e s s e s o f m e r c y b e c a u s e t h e y h e l p i n releasing of stress for the Japanese men. Apart from the prostitutes are the women who wered a u g h t e r s o f f a l l e n a r i s t o c r a t s c a l l e d G e i s h a s . T h e y a r e h i g h l y s k i l l e d a r t i s t s w h o g i v e entertainment during tea ceremonies and banquets.The Indians are not different from their Asian neighbors

when it comes to their views onsex. It is also intricately combined with the spirituality of the Hindus. Their religion, Buddhism,acknowledge sex as an activity of the man and woman leading to enlightenment. The book of Kama Sutra which was written by a celibate included different sexual solutions that would cater to different gender and physical make-up. The dark side of the Hindu sexuality is manifested inwhat they call the Tantra. The rituals include the awakening of the sleeping serpent in everyindividual and they were done in dark cemeteries.In the Arab world, their society is described as patriarchal and polygamous. Arab mencan have a maximum of four wives of which he should serve equally in terms of financial aidsand of course sexual satisfaction. Men acquired concubines which they have sexual rights. For t h e w o m e n t o r e f r a i n f r o m e n g a g i n g i n s u c h a f f a i r s , e u n u c h s , w h o a r e c a s t r a t e d m e n , w e r e present in every household. Middle Ages During the first half of the middle ages, carnal acts were loathed. This was due to theu n c o n t r o l l a b l e f o r c e o f t h e C a t h o l i c C h u r c h .
