USE We often use the passive when it is not so important who or what did the action, or it is difficult to say. Anyway, if you want to say who or what caused the action, you use by.

FORM A passive verb is a form of be + the past participle of the main verb.

Some rude comments had been made. The story will be made public. The first speech is going to be made by the President. Regulations should be made to protect children.

DOUBLE OBJECT VERBS There are some verbs that can have two objects like, for example, ask, answer, bring, cal, give, lend, make, offer, pay, send, show, tell and write. These verbs form the passive in two ways. E.g.: They offered Kate a well-paid job. (active sentence) A well-paid job was offered to Kate. (The direct object is the subject of the passive sentence) Kate was offered a well-paid job. (The indirect object is the object of the passive sentence.)
