Introduction
Welcome
This manual provides information on setting up and using a machine as a scanner. Read these instructions thoroughly before using the functions. For instructions on using the machine itself and for general safety precautions, refer to the manual provided with the machine. Store the users guide and the enclosed CD-ROM in a safe location for future reference.

END USER LICENSE AGREEMENT


PLEASE READ CAREFULLY THE LICENSE AGREEMENT BELOW BEFORE INSTALLING THE SOFTWARE. INSTALLING THE SOFTWARE INDICATES YOUR ACCEPTANCE OF THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS BELOW. IF YOU DO NOT AGREE WITH THEM, YOU SHOULD PROMPTLY RETURN THE SOFTWARE UNUSED. 1. SOFTWARE Software means the computer program contained in the package, together with all codes, techniques, software tools, format, design, concepts, methods and ideas associated with the computer program and all documentation related thereto. 2. LICENSE AGREEMENT This is a license agreement for sale. KONICA MINOLTA BUSINESS TECHNOLOGIES, INC. or its affiliate company (hereinafter collectively KONICA MINOLTA) owns, or has been licensed from other owners (KONICA MINOLTAs Licensor), copyrights in the Software. Except as in this Agreement, you are not granted any rights to patents, copyrights, trade names, trademarks (whether registered or unregistered), or any other rights, franchises or licenses in respect of the Software. Title to the Software and any copy made from it is retained by KONICA MINOLTA or KONICA MINOLTAs Licensor. 3. LICENSE KONICA MINOLTA, hereby grand to you, and you agree to accept a non-exclusive, non-transferable and limited license and you may: (1) install and use the Software on a single computer. (2) use the Software only for your own customary business or personal purpose. (3) make a copy of the Software for backup or installation purpose only in support of the normal and intended use of the Software. (4) transfer possession of copies of the Software to another party by transferring a copy of this Agreement and all other documentation along with at least one complete unaltered copy of the Software, provided that (i) you, at the same time, either transfer to such other party or destroy all your other copies of the Software, (ii) such transfer of possession terminates your license with KONICA MINOLTA, and (iii) such other party shall accept and be bound by these license terms with their initial use of the Software.

(1) You shall not without the written consent of KONICA MINOLTA: (i) use, copy, modify, merge or transfer copies of the Software except as provided herein, (ii) reverse assemble or reverse compile the Software except as permitted by law; or (iii) sublicense, rent, lease or distribute the Software or any copy thereof. (2) You shall not export or re-export the Software in any from under violation of export restrictions by the government of your country. 5. LIMITED WARRANTY KONICA MINOLTA warrants the media on which the software is recorded to be free from defects in materials and workmanship under normal use. Warranty details and limitations for the Hardware containing the Software are described in the Statement of Limited Warranty which was supplied with the hardware. With the exception of the foregoing express warranties applicable to hardware and media only, the Software is not warranted and is provided AS IS. SUCH WARRANTIES ARE IN LIEU OF ALL OTHER WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, THE IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY AND FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE. 6. LIMITATION OF REMEDIES IN NO EVENT WILL KONICA MINOLTA BE LIABLE FOR ANY LOST PROFITS, LOST DATA, OR ANY OTHER INCIDENTAL OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES THAT RESULT FROM USE OR INABLITY TO USE THE SOFTWARE, EVEN IF KONICA MINOLTA, KONICA MINOLTA LICENSOR OR ITS AUTHORISED REMARKETERS HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES OR FOR ANY CLAIM BY YOU BASED ON A THIRD PARTY CLAIM. 7. TERMINATION You may terminate your license at any time by destroying the Software and all your copies of it or as otherwise described in these terms. KONICA MINOLTA may terminate your license if you fail to comply with these terms. Upon such termination, you agree to destroy all your copies of the Software. 8. GOVERNING LAW This Agreement shall be governed by the laws of the country where the delivery is made to the original customer.

If you are acquiring the Software on behalf of any unit or agency of the United States Government, the following provisions apply. Use, duplication or disclosure by the Government is subject to restrictions as set forth in the Rights in Technical Data and Computer Software clause at FAR 252.227-7013, subdivision (b)(3)(ii) or sub paragraph (c)(1)(ii), as appropriate. Further use, duplication or disclosure is subject to restrictions to restricted rights software as set forth in FAR 52.227-19(c)(2). YOU ACKNOWLEDGE THAT YOU HAVE READ THIS AGREEMENT, UNDERSTAND IT, AND AGREE TO BE BOUND BY ITS TERMS AND CONDITIONS. If the enclosed TWAIN driver is installed on the computer, this machine can be used for to scan documents to a PC. The following software and hardware system environment is required for PC scanning: - OS: Windows 98 SE, Windows Me, Windows 2000, Windows XP, or Windows Server 2003 - TWAIN-compatible image-processing software (such as, Adobe Photoshop) - USB V.1.1 (or later version)

Use of an unshielded cable may result in radio interference. % Be sure to use a shielded USB cable.

Make sure that the machine and the computer to be connected to the machine are turned OFF. Connect one end of the USB cable to the USB port of the machine. This completes the connection.

This section describes the procedure for installing the TWAIN driver. The TWAIN driver can be installed by using plug and play.

After the TWAIN driver is installed, the installation of the printer driver begins.

Installation under Windows XP/Server 2003

With Windows running, insert the CD-ROM into your computers CDROM drive. Turn on the machine. When the machine is ready, connect it to the computer with the USB cable. The Found New Hardware Wizard dialog box appears. When using Windows XP (SP2), select do not connect in the Found New Hardware Wizard dialog box, and then click [Next].

Select Install from a list or specific location Advanced, and then click [Next]. Select Include this location in the search: under Search for the best driver in these locations., and then click [Browse]. Browse to Driver\(language)\2k_XP on the CD-ROM, and then click [OK]. Select the language you prefer. For example, if you prefer English, browse to: Driver\English\2k_XP

Click [Next]. The Completing the Found New Hardware Wizard dialog box appears.

Click [Finish]. This completes the installation of the TWAIN driver. The Found New Hardware Wizard dialog box appears again.

Repeat steps 4 through 8 to install the printer driver.

To reinstall the TWAIN driver, connect the machine to the computer with the USB cable, and then perform the installation again as described below.
Reinstalling the TWAIN driver (for Windows XP/Server 2003)

In the System Properties dialog box, click the Hardware tab, and then click [Device Manager]. Display the properties for the desired TWAIN device under Imaging devices in the Device Manager dialog box, click the Driver tab, and then click [Update Driver]. Select Install from a list or specific location (Advanced), and then click [Next]. Select Dont search. I will choose the driver to install, and then click [Next]. Click [Have Disk]. Specify the path to the folder containing the driver to be reinstalled. If a warning message appears, click [Next] to complete the installation and restart the computer.

Click [Next]. Select Search for a suitable driver for my device (recommended) in the Install Hardware Device Drivers dialog box, and then click [Next]. The Locate Driver Files dialog box appears.

Select Specify a location, and click [Next]. Click [Browse...] on the next dialog box, browse to Driver\(language)\2k_XP on the CD-ROM, and then click [Open]. Select the language you prefer. For example, if you prefer English, browse to: Driver\English\2k_XP

Click [OK], and follow the instructions that appear on the screen until the Completing the Found New Hardware Wizard dialog box appears. Click [Finish]. This completes the installation of the TWAIN driver. The Found New Hardware Wizard dialog box appears again.

Note

When using Windows 98 SE, the USB-compatible device driver must be installed before the TWAIN driver is installed. Click [Next] after selecting the following in the dialog box that appears, and then click [CD-ROM drive].
Display a list of all the drivers in a specific location, so you can select the driver you want.

Click [Finish] to begin installing the TWAIN driver.

With Windows Me, select Specify the location of the driver (Advanced). With Windows 98 SE, click [Next], and then select Search for the best driver for your device. (Recommended) in the dialog box that appears.

Click [Next]. Select Specify a location, and then click [Browse]. Browse to Driver\(language)\Win9x on the CD-ROM, and then click [OK]. Select the language you prefer. For example, if you prefer English, browse to: Driver\English\Win9x

Click [Next], and then follow the instructions that appear on the screen until you can click [Finish].

Click [Finish]. This completes the installation of the TWAIN driver. The Add New Hardware Wizard dialog box appears again.

Select the PC software program (Imaging, Adobe Photoshop, etc.). This procedure uses Adobe Acrobat 6.0 Professional as an example. Click [File]. Point to [Create PDF], and then click [From Scanner]. Select the device from the dialog box, specify the desired settings, and then click [Scan]. Adjust any settings necessary. For details, refer to Common settings on page 6-1. Place the document face up on the auto document feeder (ADF). Click [Scan] to begin scanning.

Select the PC software program (Imaging, Adobe Photoshop, etc.). This procedure uses Adobe Acrobat 6.0 Professional as an example. Click [File]. Click [Create PDF], and then click [From Scanner]. Choose the device from the dialog box, then click [Scan]. Adjust any settings necessary. For details, refer to Common settings on page 6-1. Place the document face down on the original glass. Align the document with the scale marks across the top and to the left of the original glass. Click [Scan] to begin scanning.

Click [Prescan] to display the prescanned image in the Over View Window, and then check the scanning area settings and the prescanned image.

Original size Select the original size from the pull-down list to match the size of document to be scanned.

If the scanned image is larger than the size selected in the Original Size pull-down list, any part of the scanned image larger than the specified size is erased. If the scanned image is smaller than the size selected in the Original Size pull-down list, the image is scanned at the specified size.
Scan type The scan type pull-down list contain four options. - B/W: Suitable for most text documents. - Photo: Suitable for photographs. - Gray: Suitable for scanning black & white photographs and text documents. - True color: Suitable for very detailed color images Resolution The resolution pull-down list contain three options that can be used for different purposes. - 150dpi 150dpi: Normal resolution for text documents containing standard sized text. - 300dpi 300dpi: Higher resolution for text documents containing small characters or fine print, such as a newspaper article. This is default setting. - 600dpi 600dpi: Highest resolution for scanning photographs and other images.

The prescanned image is displayed in this window with the scanning area specified in the Original Size pull-down list indicated by a dotted line. When the pointer changes to , the scanning area can be changed. If Custom was selected in the Original Size pull-down list, the scanning area can be redefined. In addition, when the pointer changes to , the scanning area can be moved.

Sharp This function is used to sharpen the image or blur it for effect. Curves This function is used to set the gamma of the image. This function will allow you to brighten or darken the overview of the image without changing the original resolution. There are three input controls available: - The scroll bar - The editing field - Directly dragging the points of the folded or curved lines Level This function is used to set the gamma value, increase shadow and highlight areas, enhance shadow values and reduce highlight values. Color balance This function is used to fine-tune the RGB values in shadows, midtones, and highlights areas. There are three setting options: - Cyan-Red - Magenta-Green - Yellow-Blue Hue/Saturation This function is used to set hue and saturation as well as the lightness of the image. Hue can be set within the range -180 to 180. Saturation can be used to adjust the freshness of colors by setting the range from -100 to 100. Lightness can be set from -100 to 100.

Cause A paper misfeed occurred in the auto document feeder. All misfed paper was not removed from the auto document feeder.

Remedy Open the document feeder cover and the auto document feeder, and then remove the misfed paper.

Remove the original document from the document feed tray.

Open the document feeder cover and gently remove the misfed paper.

Open the auto document feeder and gently remove the misfed paper. Close the document feeder cover, then load the document removed in step 1 into the auto document feeder again.

Cause There is not enough memory.

Remedy Press any key from control panel of the machine.

Communication error
Message on the PC screen:

Cause PC or machine system crash during communication. USB cable does not connect properly during communication.

Remedy Turn the machine OFF, then check if the USB cable is connected properly or not. After checking the USB cable carefully, turn the machine ON again. If you still cannot fix the problem, call your service representative.

Message on the PC screen:

Cause If TWAIN scanning and copy jobs are being performed at the same the time, the machine may stop in the middle of scanning.

Message on the PC screen:

Cause An error occurred while reading data from the machine while scanning.

Remedy Turn the machine OFF, then check if the USB cable is connected properly or not. After checking the USB cable carefully, turn the machine ON again. If you still cannot fix the problem, call your service representative.
