Equities
NSE Edges Up on a Flat Day
The NSE 20 share index opened 12pts up to close at 3,839.12.The other indices had some marginal improvement with the
NASI was up 0.13% to close at 83.95. The FTSE 15 and 25 indices followed suit gaining 0.13% and 0.12% to close at 110.51 and
112.85 points, respectively. Local investors continued their dominance in the market accounting for 67% of the total turnover
while foreign investors remained long on most counters resulting in a net inflow of Kes.21.8Mn. Equity turnover declined
6.46% to close at 188.63Mn.
Market Capitalisation was relatively stable at Kes.1.1Tn.

session stood at 14/15 with 14 stocks advancing in price and 15
shedding prices.
Foreign investor marginally slipped to 33.31% in todays trading
compared to 34.81% at the closed Fridays session.
Todays session resulted in a net inflow of Kes.21.8Mn
compared to a net outflow of Kes.4.7Mn at the close of the
previous trading session.
The highest foreign investor turnover was recorded on East
Africa Breweries Ltd (NSE: EABL) Kes.37.9Mn and Equity
Bank Ltd (NSE: EQTY) Kes.7.9Mn. The 2 counters accounted
for 24.30% and 72.95% of the total NSE and total foreign activity
respectively.
East Africa Breweries Ltd (NSE: EABL) recorded the highest net
inflow of Kes.15.3Mn.
The highest net outflow was recorded on Bamburi Cement
Company Ltd (NSE BAMB) at Kes.3.67Mn.

The Energy & Petroleum sector closed top marginally up 0.26% buoyed by the performance of Kenya
Power Ltd (NSE: KPLC) which gained 1.77% to close at a VWAP Kes.17.25. Four out of the ten sectors had
a performance decline pulling the index down 0.10%.
The Construction & Allied segment occupied the bottom spot down o.72% dragged down by E.A
Portland Cement Ltd (NSE: PORT) which shed 2.68% to close at a VWAP of Kes.54.50.

CBK to Offer Kes.15Bn
Money Markets: The CBK was inactive in todays session as the interbank rate stagnated at 8.54%
Primary Markets: The 182-day T-Bill will be auctioned on the Wednesday, 29th August while the
91-day T-Bill will be auctioned on the following day, 30th of August 2012. The regulator seeks to
raise 4Bn from each auction. The 364-day T-Bill will also be auctioned on 29th August with CBK
seeking to raise 7Bn.
Secondary Markets: A decline in the fixed income market was noted as turnover was down
11.84% to Kes.4Bn.

Currency:
KES expected to slightly weaken
Performance: The KES opened on a low, slightly losing its grip against all currencies in Table
8. Its greatest loss was recorded in the EURKES pair, down 1.14%, followed by the GBPKES
pair where it lost 0.77%. The shilling is expected to weaken slightly against the dollar due to
end-month demand mainly by importers.
