2.

The screens on the left, under "Local site:", are the folders and files on your PC.

The screens on the right-hand side, under "Remote site:, are the folders and files you have on the USC server. Youll see a number of files. You can ignore all of them except the public_html folder. Everything that you put in this folder will be accessible to the public. (Conversely, if you dont put a page or file in this folder, it wont be seen.)

public_html folder
If it doesn't exist already, create it.

Note: Use lower case for all web folder and file names.

3. Double-click on public_html. Once youre inside the public_html folder, you can create a new folder for each class or project. The names of the folders within the public_html folders become part of the URL people can use to access your site. For example, if you create a folder named jour_309 and put all of your JOUR 309 class files in it, the URL for your site is:

http://www-scf.usc.edu/~username/jour_309
To create a new folder, highlight the empty folder, and then right-click on it. Select "New Directory," and create jour_309. Create a new directory or folder called jour_309

Once youre inside this folder (jour_309), you might want to create a new folder called images so you can put all photos and graphics in one place.
