INTRODUCTION

Photovoltaic systems (PV system) use solar panels to convert sunlight into electricity. A system is made up of one or more solar panels, usually a controller or power converter, and the Interconnections and mounting for the other components. A small PV system may provide energy to a single consumer, or to an isolated device like a lamp or a weather instrument. Large gridConnected PV systems can provide the energy needed by many customers. Basically there are two types of systems one is roof mounted which has flexibility to move as per sun direction while another type that is Building Integrated Photovoltaic Systems (BIPV) which makes the building envelope are fixed.

SELECTION OF THE TOPIC

The concept of Photovoltaic system is new and at a very nascent stage in India. These are increasingly being used in buildings as a principal or alternate source of electricity. Moreover, there are buildings, which not only source power for internal use, but also feed electricity to the grid. Photovoltaic systems are part of the PV industry, but due to their possible usage as building products, they are also seen as part of

the 'green building' movement. In developed Economies, the photovoltaic system is interfaced with the available utility grid; they may also be used in standalone, off- grid systems, and are cost-effective. The cost of Building Integrated Photovoltaic systems often has lower overall costs than PV systems that require separate dedicated mounting systems, but since they are fixed building envelope so their efficiency is comparatively low. However by introducing flexibility to these systems we can increase the efficiency of these systems up to some extent.

AIM
The projects aims at the study and analysis of various photovoltaic systems including separately mounted PV Systems as well as building integrated PV systems and introducing flexibility in BIPV systems so as to increase their efficiency.

OBJECTIVES
To understand the process and typologies of various Photovoltaic systems. To achieve a clear vision regarding the requirement and application of PV systems in the buildings. To introduce flexibility in BIPV systems to increase their efficiency.
