Product Authorization

PRODUCT AUTHORIZATION
Before you can start developing projects in ProficyTM Process Systems, you must authorize the software. If you do not do so, you have unrestricted use of the softwares features for only a short trial period. The authorization process takes only a few moments and enables you to take advantage of any product support for which you qualify. To see the products you are currently authorized for, on the Proficy Process Systems Help menu, point to Product Authorization and choose Authorize Software. This displays the Product Authorization dialog box. If you have a hardware key plugged in to a USB port, you can select the Show Hardware Keys check box to view the authorizations provided by that key.

Hardware Key Authorization

Hardware key authorization requires a special USB hardware key. This key contains internal settings that enable the use of specific products and is set by your dealer or retailer. Hardware key authorization is available only for Windows 2000 or Windows XP and requires a free USB port on your computer. Important: If a component is not enabled on your hardware key, you can install it but you will not be able to launch or use it.

T o a ut h ori z e P rofi cy TM P ro ce ss S ys te m s pro duc ts w it h a ha rdwa re k e y

1. Locate a free USB port on your workstation.

Typically, the USB port is located on the front or back of your tower case, or in the side of a laptop computer. In some cases, a USB port can be found on your computers monitor.
2. Plug the hardware key into the USB port.

The first time you plug the key into a USB port, you will see a progress dialog box that indicates that Windows has detected new hardware and is updating its system settings. After the dialog box disappears, the settings stored in the hardware key are active and you can use the Proficy Process Systems products that it authorizes. You must leave the hardware key in the port while using Proficy Process Systems. If you remove the key from the port, authorization for those products vanishes. To move authorization to another computer, remove the hardware key from the source computer and plug it into a USB port on the destination computer.

CIMPLICITY

CIMPLICITY
CIMPLICITY is a Windows-based HMI/SCADA component of GE Fanuc's family of software automation products. It is scalable from a Human Machine Interface (HMI) to a fully networked Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system. The networking capabilities enable you to achieve levels of integration that virtually eliminate redundant configuration within a network. CIMPLICITY is based on a clientserver architecture consisting of Servers and Viewers. Servers are responsible for the collection and distribution of data. Viewers connect to Servers and have full access to the collected data for viewing and control actions. Servers and Viewers are easily networked together to seamlessly share data without the need to replicate your point database from node to node. For example, points are configured once and only once on a server. Screens are developed and stored in a single location on the network and accessed by any other CIMPLICITY display on the network. Servers can be licensed to collect data from, for example, 75, 150, 300, 700, 1500 or an unlimited number of device points. Exempted from the point count are virtual points, which reside only in the computer and points collected by another server. This I/O count architecture satisfies customers with small single node systems, and leverages CIMPLICITY's strong client-server architecture for multinode systems. CIMPLICITY provides the flexibility to build a larger system through multiple smaller nodes without forcing you to purchase large and expensive server hardware to service multiple users. For detailed information about CIMPLICITY, see the CIMPLICITY online help.

EGD
Ethernet Global Data (EGD) is the primary Ethernet-based peer-to-peer communications protocol for data and command exchanges for GE Fanuc Controllers. EGD provides repeated transmission of data exchanges from a Controller (producer) to other devices such as HMIs (consumers). A producer supports several exchanges, and any of these can be configured to be sent to a specific consumer (unicast), to multiple consumers within a group (multicast), or to all consumers on a network (broadcast). The primary advantages of EGD accrue in distributed control applications that consist of multiple Controllers with a supervisory layer consisting of HMI/SCADA nodes sharing a common Ethernet network. Controllers produce data that interested consumers (like an HMI) collect in configurable sets of transmitted data packets. Proficy Process Systems provides three EGD tools to use for communications between Engineering Workstation and your HMI products:

EGD Configuration Server EGD Management Tool EGD Management Edition OPC Server

GFK-2487

Proficy Process Systems 1.00

31

EGD

Distributed Control The following diagram demonstrates how EGD works. There are four devices in the Ethernet Global Data exchange: two PACSystems Controllers, a computer running Engineering Workstation, and an Operator Console with iFIX.

Controller A produces two exchanges (Exchange 1 and Exchange 2) and consumes none. Controller As logic triggers an event to generate a Command message to Controller B. Controller B produces one exchange (Exchange 3) and consumes one (Exchange 2). The computer produces no exchanges and consumes three (Exchange 1, Exchange 2, and Exchange 3). Exchange 1 is an example of unicast. Exchange 2 is an example of multicast, where a single produced exchange is subscribed to by more than one consumer. iFIX on the Operator Console updates to the Configuration Server on the computer. The configuration of each device is available in the Configuration Server on the computer (can be located on any computer on the network). The EGD status and communication statistics are provided by the EGD Management Tool.

EGD

EGD Configuration Server

EGD CONFIGURATION SERVER

The EGD Configuration Server is a central repository for all EGD nodes on a network to expose their producer and consumer configuration files. The EGD Configuration Server enables each device configuration tool to store EGD configuration information that, in turn, can be shared with other informationrequesting tools. Configuration information is shared in a file repository using an XML schema, representing the EGD configuration. Note: The EGD Configuration Server can be installed on the same computer with the configuration tools or on a different machine. Each device configuration tool is responsible for the entire device configuration, including the EGD portions. Each tool transfers EGD configuration information to or from the configuration server following its workflow, but adhering to the EGD configuration style guidelines. Each tool performs the required validation of the device configuration, including EGD portions of that configuration, and report inconsistencies. Note: If the EGD Configuration Server is removed or is no longer accessed by the EGD Management Edition OPC server, all configuration information required to run the EGD OPC server can be saved as either a binary file with a .EGD extension, or a .CSV file, regardless of whether the source of configuration is manual or extracted from ProducedData.xml files. In both file types, structure variable information, if it exists, is also saved. For more information on structure variables or on the EGD Management Edition OPC server, refer to the EGD Management Edition OPC Server online help. Want to know more? See the Ethernet Global Data (EGD) section in the Proficy Logic Developer: Getting Started manual (GFK-2485J) or, in the Engineering Workstation online help index, look up EGD Configuration Server: Integration with Logic Developer.

EGD MANAGEMENT TOOL

The EGD Management Tool (EMT) is an optional utility that provides the following features:

Presents a graphical view of the hierarchical and topological view of the EGD network along with animation to display data flow, as well as health monitoring exceptions

See the Ethernet Global Data (EGD) section in the Proficy Logic Developer: Getting Started manual (GFK-2485J) or, in the Engineering Workstation online help index, look up EGD Management Tool.

EGD MANAGEMENT EDITION OPC SERVER

The GE Fanuc EGD Management Edition OPC Server version 7.21 or greater, known as the EGD OPC Server, provides the interface and communications protocol between the Ethernet Global Data (EGD) service and your process control software. The EGD OPC Server enables GE Fanuc's HMI products to collaborate with other EGD-enabled products, as well as expose EGD data to third-party OPC clients. This server acts as an EGD data consumer; that is, it can receive, process, and make use of all EGD samples sent to the host machine via unicast, multicast, or broadcast. The EGD OPC Server takes advantage of the common EGD Configuration Server by using the information stored on the Configuration Server to automate its configuration. For more information, see EGD Configuration Server on page 33. An EGD Configuration Power Tool is provided to configure how the OPC Server consumes data from the target producers. You can also access the EGD Management Tool from the PowerTool. For more information, see EGD Management Tool on page 33. Historian Server

HISTORIAN SERVER
The Historian Server is the central point for managing all of the client and collector interfaces, storing and (optionally) compressing data and retrieving data. All tag data (numbers, strings, BLOBs) are stored in a proprietary format in the archive database. The archive database consists of several files, each of which represents a specific time period of historical data. If licensed for the Alarm and Event option, then the Historian Server also manages the storage and retrieval of OPC alarms and events in either an SQL Server or MSDE database. Want to know more? See the Historian Server section in the Proficy Historian: Getting Started manual.

COLLECTORS
Historian includes several types of data collectors for collecting data from a wide variety of applications, such as iFIX 2.6 and greater, FIX 6.5 and greater, CIMPLICITY 5.5 and greater, OPC 1.0 or 2.0, OPC Alarms & Events, files (csv or xml), and OSI PI. The Calculation collector is designed to perform math and analysis on Historian data and store the results on the server. The Server-to-Server collector boasts the same calculation capabilities as the Calculation collector, but it stores the results on a remote server. Want to know more? See the Historian Data Collectors and Historian File Collector sections in the Proficy Historian: Getting Started manual or, in the Proficy Historian online help, look up the Historian Data Collectors chapter in the Table of Contents.

CLIENTS
All client applications retrieve archived data through the Historian API. The Historian API is a client/server programming interface that maintains connectivity

to the Historian Server and provides functions for data storage and retrieval in a distributed network environment. Want to know more? In the Proficy Historian online help, look up the Guidelines for Working with Clients chapter in the Table of Contents.

WEB AND NON-WEB ADMINISTRATORS

Historian Web Administrators can run on any client(s) on the Internet or Intranet. They connect to the Historian system through the Administration web site, which is installed with the Historian Server. To support administration through a Historian Web Administrator, you must first install and run the Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS). You do not necessarily need to install IIS on the Historian Server. After IIS is installed, any remote client with Internet Explorer 5.5 or greater can use the Administration web site. If you installed client tolls on the IIS computer, you can use the Administration web site from the server. You can install the Historian Non-Web Administrator on any computer(s) connected to the Historian Server through the API. With Historian Non-Web Administrators, you do not need to install IIS. Want to know more? See the Historian Web Administrators vs. Non-Web Administrators section in the Proficy Historian: Getting Started manual or, in the Proficy Historian online help, look up the Using the Historian Administrator chapter in the Table of Contents.

HISTORIAN OLE DB PROVIDER

The Historian OLE DB Provider is a data access mechanism that enables you to query Historian product data using Structured Query Language (SQL) statements or other client reporting tools. The Historian OLE DB Provider gives regulated industries the ability to create reports using applications such as Seagate Crystal ReportsTM. It also enables current Historian product users to integrate with other databases such as SQL Server, and other third party OLE DB-compliant applications. Want to know more? In the Proficy Historian online help, look up the Using the Historian OLE DB Provider chapter in the Table of Contents.

Phase Logic Interface (PLI)

PHASE LOGIC INTERFACE (PLI)

The Phase Logic Interface (PLI) is the interface between the Batch Server and the phase logic in the Controller. The purpose of the PLI is to control:

The state transitions for phases The communication between Batch Server and the process I/O phase logic

The PLI receives commands from Batch Server, the operator, or an external interface, and then initiates the appropriate module of phase logic in the Controller. For example, when the PLI receives a START command from Batch Server, the PLI initiates the Running module in the phase logic. If the PLI receives a STOP command from Batch Server, it initiates the Stopping module of code. Want to know more? See the Programming the Process Controller section in the Application Guide or, in the Batch Execution online help, look up PLI Development Manual in the Table of Contents.

OPC SPECIFICATION
Based on the Microsoft OLE (Object Linking and Embedding) technology, OPC (OLE for Process Control) provides greater interoperability between control applications, field systems and devices, and from office/backoffice applications. OPC servers, such as DCSs, Controllers, smart field devices, and analyzers, provide real-time information and can communicate directly with Batch Server. For detailed information about Batch Server, see the Application Guide and the Batch Execution online help. Want to know more?
