This project is for English 4302 subject. Our


group chose topic Colour from Nature
because it can use in daily life and most of
members in our group live in the district which
is famous for waving silk and cotton. We hope
that knowledge which we found would be useful
for people in our community and other
communities. And it could be the foundational
knowledge to research more information.

Colours from Nature


Fabrics colours are one of the important things;
they can show their quality and can impress the
custom for selling. There are 2 types of colours for
dyeing, natural colours and synthetic colours, with use
in dyeing process. But since ancient time, Thai people
always uses colours from nature which are clean,
good-quality, give beautiful colours and use widely.
The knowledge about using colours from nature also
reveal Thai local wisdom that still useable and
valuable.

How to dye fabric?
1.

Pour some water into a container for boiling. Boil the water
and put plant or fruit, according to chosen colour, into it. An

amount of plant or fruit depends on needing of light or dark


tone.

2. Add some salt (1 table spoon/2 liters of water)and stir it.


Salt helps dyeing in the part of good and durable colours.

3. Dip fabrics in clean water before put into boiled water for
smooth dyeing.

While boil fabrics, stir consistently about hour. Then put


them off and clean with water several times till there is no
colour in the water.

Mix clean water with some acetic acid (5 table spoons/10


liters of water) and dip all fabrics into the mixed water. Stir

them about 5 minutes, after that, clean with water again


before dry them in the sun.
