UPCOMING SPECIAL EVENTS

Walk of the Wait with Blue Star Card on Tuesday, September 11 when we visit the Old Pali Trail. This easy, 2 mile, stroller friendly hike heads downhill along an abandoned portion of the Old Pali Highway built in 1932. The area is lush with vegetation that is slowly taking over the road and features spectacular, unobstructed views extend across the vertical ridges, tall forbidding peaks, and deep valleys of the sheer ali cliffs to the coastal plain and ocean below. The lookout is often windy but the views are staggering. After our stroll we will stop for some refreshing shaved ice so bring a little cash. Limited transportation will be leaving Schofield Barracks at 8:30 am, registration is required. Call 655-0002 or email Amanda.P.Montgomery.naf@mail.mil.

Celebrate another month of deployment complete by creating a foam core photo frame for your Soldier! Join your Blue Star Card friends on Thursday, September 27, at the Schofield Barracks Arts & Crafts Center. We will provide all of the materials for each family to make a memento for their Soldier, just bring your creativity and smiling faces. There will be two times available, 4:00 6:00 pm and 6:00 8:00 pm. Spaces are limited and registration is required so call 655-0002 or email Amanda.P.Montgomery.naf@mail.mil to sign up by September 21.

Parents Night Out

Parents Night Out will be held September 8 (AMR CDC and AMR Youth Center), September 22 (Bowan CDC and Schofield School Age Center). For more information on Parents Night Out or to make a reservation, call the Schofield Barracks CYS Services Registration Office at 655-5314 or the AMR Registration Office at 833-5393. Blue Star Card holders can use their 16 free hours for the month toward Parents Night Out!

Star Recipe of the Month:

INGREDIENTS
2 cups pretzel sticks 1 cup mixed nuts 1/2 cup sun ower kernels 6 tablespoons butter, melted 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon 1/8 teaspoon ground cloves 8 cups popped popcorn 1 cup candy corn 1 cup chocolate bridge mix

DIRECTIONS
In a large bowl, combine the pretzels, nuts & sun ower kernels. Combine the butter, cinnamon & cloves. Drizzle a third of butter mixture over pretzel mixture; toss to coat. Transfer to a greased 15-in. x 10-in. x 1-in. baking pan & bake at 300 for 15 minutes. Place popcorn in a large bowl; drizzle with remaining butter mixture & toss to coat. Stir into pretzel mixture. Bake 15 minutes longer or until heated through. Cool, transfer to a large bowl and add candy corn & bridge mix. Yield: 3 quarts. Blue Star Recipes Spice up deployment!
