Course Aims

The aims of the teaching and study of physical education are to encourage and enable the student to develop: an appreciation and understanding of the value of physical education and its relationship to a healthy, balanced lifestyle an interest in the promotion of health and wellness the motivation to participate fully in all aspects of physical education their optimal level of physical fitness effective communication strategies, verbal, non-verbal and written the skills and understanding necessary to participate successfully in a variety of physical activities, for example, learning, practicing, refining, adapting, thinking, interacting the ability to reflect critically on all aspects of physical education, including being a critical performer an understanding of international perspectives on physical activity, sport and health education a lifelong interest in and enjoyment of physical activities as a participant.

Note: Criterion A task in Games can be assessed in any games unit. Skills The skills studied in each unit of work are covered in the Student Outline that is contained in the PE Work Book that each student downloads to his/her laptop in the first two weeks of school. Each student is required to share the PE Work Book with his/her parent/ guardian. Approaches to Learning-PE Expectations Nutrition: - You MUST plan to come to PE with enough energy to take part. You should have had something nutritious to eat and drink (juice or water) 1 hour before the class. You are expected to bring a bottle of water (500ml) to class and put it at the side of the playing area.

S-PE/PE Handbook

Before a PE lesson Place your school bag, laptop and valuables etc in your locker. Come to PE in your school uniform. Bring only your PE kit bag to PE (unless otherwise advised). Your PE kit should include; -House t-shirt/ PE shorts/ Back leggings (optional)/ Sports shoes (non marking) -Swimsuit/Swim shorts/ Swim cap/ Swim goggles (during the swim unit) -Water bottle (500ml) / Towel -Heart Rate Monitor strap (when asked to do so) -Spare underwear -Plastic bag to carry wet clothes -Deodorant (if necessary) In cool weather the CIS Tracksuit or CIS Hoody can be worn. No other top is permitted. If you forget your kit, spare kit can be borrowed from the blue box in the Lower Gym. Arriving at PE You will be given time to; -Change into your PE kit in the dry changing rooms or the wet changing rooms (swimming pool). -Hang your clothes on the pegs provided in the changing rooms. At the start of lesson At the beginning of each lesson you should; Jewelry - any jewelry/ earrings you have not left in your locker should be taken to your locker. Hair - tie up long hair with your own hair tie. Homework - submit the task/ homework if this is required. Failure to submit a homework task at the beginning of class will result in no more than a level 4 being awarded for Criterion D for the unit. At the end of the lesson You will be given time to; -Shower after PE. -Change into your school uniform. -Place your wet towel and PE kit in your plastic bag. -Leave the changing room tidy. -You will have time to return to your locker and prepare for the next class. If you are found to be in your PE kit before or after a PE lesson a PE Teacher will place you in a PE Detention.
