ASSEMBLY PROCESS FOR TRACTORS FROM SKD The Assembly operation is carried out in a sequential order, commencing from

unloading and shifting of SKD packs to assembly up to road test. This is accomplished on two lines namely: first line (group assembly) and second line (final assembly) First Line: Assembly of Main Transmission Housing (MHT) and Axle Housing (AH) Assembled gear box is mounted on trolley Already assembled (MTH) is joined with the gear box.

The following stage-wise assembly operations will be carried out: (i) (ii) (iii) (iv) Joining of gear box and main transmission housing; Assembly of 3-point linkage; Joining of engine with gear box and joining of front axle and front pen engine including preparation; Brakes, steering control system, floors, hand control linkages and pedals etc. Second Line: The following assembly operations will be carried out on this line: (i) (ii) (iii) (iv) (v) (vi) (vii) Bleeding, greasing, radiator, air cleaner, oil and water filling; Fuel tank and dash board pre-assembly and assembly on line; Mudguard pre-assembly and assembly on line; Bonnet pre-assembly and assembly on line; Seat pre-assembly and assembly on line; Head lights, other indicator lights and total electrical work; Top exhaust, fuel pipe, wheel mounting, toeing mounting before demounting on hydraulic table. Testing of Tractors:

After assembly, the following tests are carried out:

(a)

Hydraulic Lift Testing: All functions of hydraulic system of the tractor will be tested by mounting a frame on to the three point linkage. A mass of 800kgs of cast iron is loaded to the frame. The test will be used to check any leakages in the hydraulic system.

(b)

Road Testing : The tractors will run on test tracks, which will stimulate the exact road conditions such as gradient, curves, slopes etc this test also include driving the tractors will loaded tractors.

By supplying the Tractors in SKD condition and assembling locally the following advantages are obtained: (i) (ii) (iii) (iv) Reducing freight charges compared to fully assembled tractors; Development of skills in assembly and testing of Tractors, which would help in effective operation and maintenance; Local value addition and employment generation; Progressive indigenization.

It is expected that each tractor will be supplied with a set of implements made up of: (1) Ploughs 3 furrow with wheels, suitable for category 1 and 11 linkages, adjustable from 6 degrees to 24 degrees angle, suitable for soil breaking, soil raising, soil turning and soil mixing, with dust proof caps, pressure lubricated grease nipples US$850 (2) (3) (4) Offset Harrow 16 discs with treated resistible bearings, adjustable disc angle US$1000. Ridger 3 discs two row, mounted type with 3 point linkage US$400 Tipping trailer US$1200 We intend to make the 4 implements locally hence additional investment that would be needed is US$101,158 to complement the existing ones.

MANPOWER: The technical manpower requirement for a single line is estimated of 12 persons. The broken down as follows: S/N CATEGORY 1. Plant in charge 2. Workers Assembly 3. Engineering, inspection and maintenance NO OF PERSONS 1 8 3 12
