Examine the contemporary or historical migration pattern of significance. Investigate the reasons for the movement and analyse the impacts for both the areas involved
A contemporary migration pattern was when the Asians started migrating to New Zealand and began adding to the culture, religion, food, festivals and achievements. New Zealand started growing as a country altogether but; after a while the Asian ethnicity got out of hand and is currently helping populate 9.2% of New Zealand. When migrating from Asia to New Zealand they would have faced visa, immigration, job, accommodation, language, money or work permit issues and this could have been that little stumble that sent them back to Asia through a counter flow.

In the early 1990s the immigration that gave New Zealand its first Asian Invasion slogan was created by the mass number of migrants from Hong Kong, Taiwan and the Republic of Korea. This increased highly following the introduction of the points system selection in 1991. In 1997 there was an economic crisis which resulted in the population of Asians being decreased; but at the same time New Zealand had a slow economic growth attracting a large amount of Asian migrants. In 2006 the census recorded 298,475 people who were identified with Asian ethnicity. The type of people who immigrated to New Zealand may have been desperate for jobs, money or they would have come to New Zealand for educational purposes; they could have been the kind of people who wanted to get away from all the corruption to begin a new lifestyle. The significance about this particular migration is that since 2001 the population of Asians has almost doubled so, I wanted to investigate the different reasons and impacts it has on Asia and New Zealand.

The Asian countries were pushed towards New Zealand because of the economical crisis taking place in Asia and the amount of corruption may have been disturbing the families to grow and climb the social or economical ladder. In Asia there may possibly have been strict conditions and traditions that were hard to follow, perhaps less opportunities, too much pollution, not enough to fulfill educational needs,

overpopulation, health risks, harsh human rights or poverty. Asians would have chosen New Zealand because of more job opportunities, a multicultural society, no overcrowding, financially helpful, educational opportunities, language, wide selection of chances, a democratic country, a clean, green, safe environment, a selection of sports or just to experience a beautiful scenic country lifestyle.

The migration had a positive and negative impact on New Zealand; it began to create a multicultural society, an increase in population, the economy developing, people from different races representing New Zealand in a variety of sports or New Zealand being recognised for its academic talent. Asians contributed towards New Zealand by introducing Buddhism, Hinduism and different religions, this made the nation more open minded. The ideas of the lion dance, Bollywood, the diversity of festivals and the contribution of languages helped the other ethnicities to experience something new and exciting. Dumplings, fortune cookies, sushi, herbs, spices and a whole lot of food were also brought to New Zealand this also was a huge contribution to our nation. The majority of the jobs were taken up by the Asians and this resulted in the kiwis not earning enough; this was turning into a problem. The introduction of the gold card for the elderly had been taken advantage off by most Asians and this was a benefit for them so, many more arrived in New Zealand wanting the assistance. This was causing the New Zealand Government slowly heading towards debt; another problem for the kiwis. Because of all the negative factors New Zealand Government tightened up the eligibilities and conditions for arriving in New Zealand, leading to a decrease in migrants.

Although its not all bad, Asians were here for a new opportunity, a new beginning and the Government supported each migrant successfully. New Zealand with its incredible scenic beauty and untouched nature is a pleasant place to be and the Asians did not want to miss that. There are always the pros and cons for all controversial topics, the culture and contributions to the society were remarkable and the help given by the

government, kiwis and other ethnicities helped the Asians take their place in New Zealand. The next generation and the generation after that, and so on, they ALL will be proud to call themselves 100% PURE NEW ZEALANDERS!
