Tates Classroom
The classroom expectations and procedures that are outlined below explain how I expect you to conduct yourself in class this school year. By following these expectations and procedures, you will help to make our classroom an efficient, productive, and positive learning environment for everyone. The goal is to make our classroom a space in which you all have the greatest possible opportunity to learn and grow.
Expectations:
Start of Class Come in quietly Get necessary materials Make sure you have a sharpened pencil or pen Sit down at your assigned seat Take out binder and open to homework Work on Do Now silently During Class Stay in your seat at ALL times No calling out No off-task talking Stay focused on the task
Procedures:
1. Come in quickly and quietly a. Enter the classroom as soon as you get to it b. Use 12-inch voices 2. Get necessary materials a. Come to class every day with: i. Sharpened pencil or pen ii. Loose-leaf paper iii. Calculator iv. Your Geometry Binder v. Last nights homework b. If there is a worksheet (or any other materials) for the days lesson, pick it up before going to your assigned seat.
3. Be in your assigned seat, working on the Do Now silently, when the bell rings. a. Have your binder open to your completed homework from last night b. Continue to work quietly while Ms. Tate checks your homework and your Do Now and takes attendance c. If you have completed the Do Now quickly, volunteer to put your work on the board by quietly raising your hand. 4. If you are late, follow the following procedure: a. Walk into the class quietly b. Sit in your assigned seat c. Begin to take notes on material that you missed d. Do not disrupt Ms. Tate or any of your classmates e. The next time Ms. Tate walks past your desk, give her your note (do not walk in to class late without a note) 5. Raise your hand and wait to be called on before speaking or leaving your seat. a. If you need to go to the bathroom, follow the following procedure: i. Quietly raise your hand and ask for permission from your seat (only during Independent Work time) ii. Take the Bathroom Pass and walk quietly out the door and straight to the bathroom iii. Return to the class within 3 minutes iv. Return the Bathroom Pass v. Quietly return to your assigned seat and continue working b. Bathrooms are locked during the first and last 10 minutes of each period, so please do not ask to go during this time. c. You may not go to your locker during class or leave class before the bell, so please do not ask to do so. d. Throw away all trash before or after class, not during class. 6. When Ms. Tate asks for attention, stop what you are doing, face Ms. Tate, and remain silent while Ms. Tate is speaking. 7. When a classmate is speaking, listen carefully, do not interrupt, and remain silent while he/she is speaking. 8. Turn in homework when and where Ms. Tate indicates. Ms. Tate will either: a. Check your homework at your desk, as you complete your Do Now b. Collect your homework c. Have you turn your homework in to the appropriate class homework bin

9. When homework is returned to you, organize it in your binder so that you can find it later. 10. When you are absent, please do the following on the day you return: a. Ask your classmates about missed notes and homework (if you did not already get it off Ms. Tates website) b. To find a worksheet that you missed, look in the appropriate space in the hanging folders by the door, the file cabinets, or the binders in the back of the classroom (depending on your room). c. All late/missing homework should be put in the appropriate class homework bin, located on top of the bookshelf (Room 244) or file cabinet (Room 236) at the side of the classroom. 11. When the bell rings, remain seated until Ms. Tate dismisses you. 12. Before leaving class, clean up your desk, clean any mess that you made on the floor, and return your seat to its normal position (unless otherwise indicated by Ms. Tate).
Course Outline
Course Description: With the successful completion of Algebra, Geometry provides students with the experiences that deepen the understanding of two and threedimensional objects and their properties. While studying the relationships of points, lines, angles, planes, polygons, circles, and polyhedral; an understanding of proof and logic is developed. This course terminates with the successful completion of the New York State Regents Examination in Geometry
Objectives: What will students understand as a result of this course? Differentiate between the properties of geometric figures Describe spatial relationships through hands-on activities Relate geometric transformations through movement on the coordinate plane Make connections of algebra through usage of coordinate geometry Experience the geometry of measurement through real-world circumstances Exercise the problem-solving skills of geometric modeling Understand the relationship between geometry and deductive reasoning Draw conclusions using formal axioms and theorems
Grading Policy
Tests Quizzes Homework Classwork / Participation Total Tests/Quizzes: You can expect to have a quiz every 3 or 4 lessons and then a test at the end of each unit. This ends up being a quiz or test about once a week (look on the Calendar to find out when they will be). If you pay attention during class, complete all of your homework, and ask questions when you have them, you will be successful on class assessments. KIPP NYC College Prep Honor Code: On my honor, I pledge that this test/paper/project is my own, original work. Homework is assigned and checked or collected every day. Ms. Tates Homework Rubric:
Pts 4 3 2 1 0 Assignment Completeness Student has every question correct and included all necessary work. Student has most questions correct and included all necessary work. OR Student has every question correct and included most necessary work. Student has half of the questions correct and included all necessary work. OR Student has every question correct and included some of the necessary work. OR Student has a few of the questions correct and included all necessary work. Student has none of the questions correct. OR Student has all of the questions correct, but showed no work. OR Student did not turn in homework.
Homework:
Each day that a homework assignment is turned in late, the number of possible points for the assignment will decrease by one. For example, if a homework assignment is due on Monday, you can only get up to 3 points on Tuesday, 2 points on Wednesday, 1 point on Thursday, and after that it is a 0. [This begins in October] Your classwork/participation grade is based on your active participation and effort in all activities in the classroom. Classwork includes completing your Do Now in a timely manner and silently, taking notes, moving into groups quietly and quickly, completing Exit Slips, etc. Participation includes paying attention, asking questions, answering Ms. Tates questions, answering your classmates questions, volunteering to put work on the board, etc.
